    Mk7 Golf R Order thread - part 2

Genuinely think this forum and the guys on here was the root cause of that email. Fight the power 😂

Another switcheroo, I found the APR insert to add vibration and noise between 800-1,200 rpm it was more noticeable on a cold start . I doubt you would notice it at all with a res delete or aftermarket exhaust but it was enough for me to look at something else. Only fitted yesterday but this moulded polyurethane part by Powerflex fills the voids in the factory bushing and being non metallic doesn’t transmit any vibrations or noise through the chassis. Very pleased with it .....

Ghost security shhh it’s a secret.....

It's all about Risk and Reward to the scum stealing cars. the majority are focused on Risk and will not put themselves overly at risk of being caught and things visual deterrents will tend to put them off. if they do get keys and you have Ghost, that Risk focus will kick in and they will leave. now those focused purely on Reward don't give a shit about the risk, these will steal your car during the day, force the keys off you, carjack, use machete etc. obviously the above are opposite sides of a complex thought process line with it running left to right (Risk.......Reward). last year I gave a security travel brief, this IT geek went on about how secure laptop security was etc, I asked him to put his hand out, I then walked towards him with a large pair of pliers. Low Tech nearly always beats high Tech, the Human is the weakest link. to keep anything safe it's all about increasing the risk to the person wanting it, just remember that it will not put off those focus purely on Reward.

    Mk7 Golf R Order thread - part 2

Anyway those that cars are at dealers and want a 1st March pick up should now be able to do so. Many thanks to the people who pestered the other authorities (you know who you are) as I believe this pushed VW into the announcement yesterday. I would now advise those that want their cars at the beginning of March to contact your dealers referring them to the email above if for some reason they have not seen it!

Its puts them off even coming in for the keys in the first place. They’ll always have a look in through the car windows first. If they see that its another obstacle to overcome so they’ll move onto an easier target. If you haven’t seen any of the programmes on tv about car security, or the youtube documentaries on it, all the thieves they interview all say the best deterrent is a steering lock. By the time they realize its got some sort of security system like the ghost on the vehicle, they’ve already been in and caused great distress to you and your family. Or a lot of damage getting into the property for the keys. If they see the steering lock theres a much greater chance they won’t even bother coming in for the keys. How many cars have you heard of that have been stolen or having an attempted theft that had a steering lock fitted? I can’t recall of any on the handful of car forums I’m on. You hear a lot of people having had their car saved by a ghost because the thieves couldnt get the car started, but as I’ve already said, by this time they’ve already caused a lot of physical damage and possibly mental distress to yourself and your home.

    Mk7 Golf R Order thread - part 2

    Folks, here's the answer.
  11. 2 points
Forget claims management they are just blame shifters. Your contact is with the insurer. Don’t forget that shit obeys the laws of gravity , start at the top with the chief executive and I usually find that it’s delegated to somebody within the management structure to sort out. Re tunning 14 Reg R

55k miles is nothing to these type of engines. Nowadays it's not the engine that fails its the ancillaries and barring the turbo, tuning puts very little extra wear, if anything, on them. With it being a 2014, all i would do is have the turbo balanced or upgraded - that's the weakest component when tuning an R, especially on a 2014.

If you have a photograph of mileage that is higher than your collection mileage or what it is now, then that is job for trading standards and the police. if you can prove mileage has been tampered then it's a criminal offence.

Sad story 😔. Not the first time a dealer/repair centre has ignored the 'do not wash' instuction.... Did you get your car repaired at a bodyshop that was approved by your insurance company? If so, then it is definately their responsibility. This would include damage inflicted by the bodyshop in the process of doing the repair, and that would include the "cleaning". The 'clocking' (if you can prove it) is slightly different. I would concentrate on getting your car corrected first..

In line with thread title, in addition to the financial penalty coming this guy's way I think he should be made to make a short public film of himself explaining to his kids why doing what he did makes him a sizeable tosser. Definitely keen to know the outcome of this. Very good luck and keep us informed if you don't mind.

I guess the trip mileage will reset if the battery was disconnected, which is normal when doing body repair. Wouldn't change your actual mileage though.

Ghost security shhh it’s a secret.....

I went with a Pandora Mini BT as opposed to AWG ... it gives me a blue light, an alarm and ADR fob. No ADR fob and the car shuts down after 1 minute being driven. I felt that was better given the thefts in Birmingham. Just my view FWIW.

Yep, defo works for the Golf. As you probably know, Audi have a system called Keyless Go, where you have a nice shiny Start button, but the car is not keyless entry. You use a regular remote control key to lock/unlock the car. Keyless entry on Audi's is called Advanced Key (they would have to be different!), and comes complete with start button, of course. As a result, a thief cannot tell by peering into an Audi whether its keyless entry or not. May be the same for the Golf when the Mk8 comes around. I have an image in my head of a couple of muppets standing next to a Keyless Go Audi wondering why their relay device isn't working. Wonder how long it would take them to figure it out? Forget that, they would never figure it out, as that would take more than two brain cells and they only have one each..😂

Insurers record all calls. Demand they review records (they should also have a log of when you called) and ask for a copy. This will prove you had concerns prior to the damage. Then call and mail your insurer back and go as high as possible (company directors emails of large insurers are often findable via their website) and demand they take ownership of the problem. if no joy ask that they refer you to the ombardsman and log an official complaint. Ignore the accident management company, these are just parasites. Your contract is with the registered insurer Good luck

It's a good question. If it's all about visual deterrents, then you would put a bold sticker on the driver's window. I assume that AWG provide one? It might deter a few, so why wouldn't you? But, as someone commented above, it won't deter all. Maybe they will think "this guy has just put a sticker on his window and probably doesn't have the AWG fitted anyway". I agree that the steering wheel lock is a bit different because they can see for sure that there is a big obstacle to overcome, so its bound to be more effective than just a "warning". Unless you live in a very high risk area, I think most drivers are put off physical steering locks because they seem like a faff to put on and get off every time you get home at night or go out in the morning. However, I have to admit that I have never used one, preferring to rely on a high level of house security. You can only do what you are comfortable with or can afford. No system is 100%.

I've got a full Audison set up. I love it now I've learnt how to use the AMP set up on the laptop myself. Bass is definitely the highlight! 100x better than the standard set up.

As others have said, bodywork/paint can be corrected, I'm sure you'll be able to get them to pay for a full detail, especially if you post it on social media. It's absolutely gutting no doubt. That said, I'd be a lot more concerned with the clocking - not only because it's illegal but if they've also disconnected your dashcam then who knows what they've been up to? What is the mileage discrepancy if you don't mind me asking? I'm pretty sure the ECU will have some form of digital footprint if it's been clocked.

Good advice for all with retrofitted headunits - ALWAYS remove/unplug your glovebox unit to avoid them from de-activating it. Unfortunately its how it goes with dealers
  33. 1 point

    Changing sound system.

I recently did an upgrade on my speaker setup, i found the standard speakers pretty pants. So i decided to go for the Audison G7: https://www.carsound.co.uk/audison-prima-apspg7-vw-golf-mk7-sound-upgrade-system Comes with a sub, door speakers and an amp. I have used Audison speakers before and their dsp's are among the best on the market. So i was so glad that they offered an upgrade plug in and play solution. Install was relatively easy and it is on par with any of the upgrades ive heard before. The bass is the highlight. Completely sound tuned for the golf mk7 so thats perfect. Or you can get it tuned to your sound preference. Would definitely recommend if you have standard golf speakers. Sent from my Pixel 3 XL using Tapatalk

Hard one. If they are coming in with a machete surely you’ll just tell them the ghost code rather than have them force it out of you?

That’s very worrying. I dropped my car off for a DSG oil change at VW today, I took a video of the inside and outside of the car, including all the wheels, it’s sad I feel compelled to do this, but it doesn’t take long and posts like yours, make a compelling case. Hope you can rectify some of the shite they’ve caused.

    Selling my R..What next?

Well i was lucky enough to drive a B9 RS4 yesterday , wow, if the budget allows it would be a great step up from the R but keeping all the practicality, a lot more money though tbh but very impressive bit of kit.

I feel for you. A neighbour scraped my front bumper but paid for the damage. Whilst waiting for the car to go in someone scraped the back bumper. I paid out of my own pocket to get the rear bumper repaired at the same time as the front. Ten days after getting the car back someone hit the rear bumper again, once on the back corner and then on the side when straightening up too soon. The car can stay like it is now, unless I catch someone hitting the car again and can make them pay. It's cheaper to pay the penalty when it goes back after the lease is up. I did have plans to buy the car but not interested now, will get a cheap little run around and not have to worry/stress about peoples disregard for other peoples property. I'm so pissed off I have just installed really good CCTV, so God help anyone I catch bumping the car again.
