Personally I'd move the coils to no.3 and no.4 and see if the fault moves with it. This will confirm its the coils and not another issue like faulty injectors. Just my 2 cents for what its worth.

There are too many people in this country who have failed to achieve and try to make themselves feel better by dissing anybody more successful than them. Go and do it for yourself instead of whinging. Rarely do you hear successful people making such negative comments. Successful people tend to admire those that achieve, losers tend to despise them. I've got the lane assist plus (2017 7.5) but I've not noticed the internal camera for the emergency assist. Whearabouts is it? I've assumed it relies on monitoring steering and pedal behaviour rather than a camera to detect drowsy eyes.

I'd be seriously thinking of getting one of those steering locks that locks the wheel and brake pedal. If the look in and see one of those it would make stealing the car less attractive.

I have lane assist plus and you get the following, over normal lane assist: -Blind spot indicators, with rear/side radar -Traffic Jam Assist (basically this is lane assist & ACC working down to 0 mph and hence in stop start traffic, normal lane assist only works above 40mph) -Rear Traffic Alert (Prevents you reversing into things, and also warns if something is coming from the side when reversing out of a bay) -Traffic sign recognition (shows you the actual road speed based on signs it picks up from the camera, ACC can be set to obey them) -Emergency Assist (internal camera monitors your eyes to see if you are falling asleep, will alert you if it detects it, if no response will stop the car and put hazards on) Took me a while to trust the blind spot indicators, but now find them very useful (i no longer bend my head around to check my rear right when changing lanes). Traffic jam assist works reasonably well. The Rear traffic alert has actually picked up a car i initially didn't see when reversing out of a bay (although the car had stopped). Traffic sign recognition works well and always seems to have picked up the actual changes in road speed from what the sat nav would have expected, like on road works sections etc. Is it worth the £1225? - well when normal lane assist was £650, then maybe, but now that's free its a bit steep still asking for £1225 for the few extra options!

    These cars are amazing

Haha - ouch. I guess I have that many years of dreary SUVs - though I respect the XC40. Who knows what an R (if there is an R) will be like then. No doubt faster than it's ever been, but powered by batteries probably! Congrats! Also exactly the same here - when she walked around the car the first time back in 2016 it was all "this looks practical and easy to park" until she reached the back, I saw her eyes look down then dead-pan looked across at me over the roof. I said "don't worry - it's for improved engine airflow so it's more economical". Which convinced her for 0 seconds. Even though, ironically, it might be true. I did consider this. Though I think legroom in the passenger bench is the same as the hatch? So same issue with the isofix base + car seat. They're massive these days it seems - the front passenger seat currently can only be used by people up to 5'8" I reckon. And forget about putting anything else in the footwell. Due to the boot size - the (folded) carry cot goes on the front passenger seat, pram in the boot, wife in the rear-right seat, car seat on the rear-left. Middle seat...unusable by an adult. It's fine until you need to stay overnight somewhere or do any substantial shopping. The R estate would solve that issue though. I think a part me does want an XC40, and I really like what Volvo are producing these days - the V90 / S90 are stunning cars in and out. But nothing will beat the feeling of being alone in an R and punting it down a well-known clear B road. It is do-able to use as a practical family car though (the hatchback) - just depends how much you want to compromise on, and how good you are at cramming stuff into every bit of space in the car.

    Was hopeful... but no.

Luckily I went off to the right, if I'd have gone left I would have rolled down a 30ft drop with many trees. That would have hurt a lot... it's still one of my favourite roads, and in the summer it's a great road to drive (10 miles of winding bends, through forest and open marsh, mountains on either side and a couple of stunning loch views. Yea the Audi will be getting her winters next week. The Ranger will be serving two purposes, it'll still be practical when the snow really comes down (the R not so much), but I'm also retraining to be a deer stalker, so it'll be a much better vehicle for that, don't think the R would appreciate a 200kg red deer being folded into the back I'll more than likely have two or three sets of wheels to interchange the tyre options.

Darren, this is my view on the insurance issue. If you look at the VW bulletin from Thursday it states that they are working with the Association of British Insurers, I think at present our 300PS cars are not on their system, once the registrations are sorted so should the insurance issue, also our Golfs have the Car-Net Security & Service installed so this my reflect on the premiums ? As I stated this is only my opinion, so it'll be interesting once our cars are fully registered to see if the insurance companies recognise the new model ?

    These cars are amazing

Haha, How I remember that time well! But, I've now just come out the other end of having children... During which time a series of Volvo estates and people carriers, gave way to a number of small, "insurable", cars as they got to driving age. As luck would have it my son took a Golf 1.2TSI with him when he moved out, which means I'm now the owner of a Golf R....😉 You've only got about 25 years to go...

    Was hopeful... but no.

That’s some s**t luck! But you can put it down to a lack of experience of Scottish weather, rather than anything to do with your driving skills. It could have been a lot worse if the road was atop a hill or high bank - so I hope you’re counting your blessings. Sad to see you’ve already made up your mind to ditch the R - since you love it so much - when seasonal tyres would make all the difference. I just can’t see how a Ford Ranger w\ 400bhp and rock solid suspension is going to be any safer on road than a Golf R (lower centre of gravity, less weight) w\ winter tyres? You know you’ll need to switch the tyres on the Ranger over seasonally just as you would on the Golf (or you’ll never get to abuse that power in the warmer weather)? P.S: If you haven’t already, put some winters on the Audi too.

MK 7.5 Ride comfort no DCC

Guys, Issue resolved in my opinion. Just went to a gas station, pushed on the tyre valve for almost 10 sec and then did a check; still had 2.0 - 2.2 bar (+/- 30 psi) on them. Have put 2.4 bar (35 psi) in them right now and it is a completely different car. Still rough, but not rock hard on every whole in the road anymore. 2.4 bar should be enough as I always drive alone and it has been converted to a 2 seater (for fiscal reasons in Belgium). Massive thanks for all the quick feedback, you have made me a very happy man!

I’m the same, and here in Yorkshire it’s not usually as cold but we can go several weeks if not months without seeing above 7c! Main thing is that the OP is safe though, metal is replaceable. There’s a common belief that a “proper” 4x4 is better is poor weather when that’s not really the case. This video is one of the best examples: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=atayHQYqA3g Of course, the best solution is a 4x4 with winter tyres (ground clearance being the biggest advantage vs the R).

    Was hopeful... but no.

Totally agree with this. Winter tyres perform better when the weather is less than 7c. A bigger 4x4 isn’t going to be any better in the same conditions if it’s also running on summer tyres.

Great thread but couple of extra points I picked up along the way :- 1. Undo the fill plug first - if you drain the oil but can’t then fill it you’re in a spot of bother. 2. If you can’t unplug the pump connector to the ECU just undo the two bolts holding on the ECU then it’s far easier. 3. When refilling add the 600ml or so until it runs out of fill hole, refit plug just a couple of threads and then run the car for a minute. This will prime the pump. Now remove fil plug and add more oil until it runs out - this will maybe be an extra 50-100ml.

    Pretoria Alloys - Aftermarket

This particular wheel is very prone to flat spots, buckles and cracks. Totally agree that aftermarket wheels are cheaper and usually heavier and weaker but there is always an exception to every rule. First pothole I hit ( in the dark and full of water) I got a huge flat spot and decided that rather that run the risk if it happening again I got a £500 set of reps. They didn't feel much heavier, didn't get the chance to compare them too much as a van decided to wipe my R out... Anyway nobody is doubting your knowledge but in this case there is plenty of evidence that the OEM Prets although a beautiful wheel that suits the car perfectly, are a little soft if you hit a hole etc right between the spokes... What did you do to your R today?

Got really really annoyed with lots of Honda Jazz drivers. There was a smash near me (BMW vs Ambulance) and the coppers closed the road. No warning until you were on it with the only option to go down a road that was completely blocked with traffic, no common sense used, no traffic control as they used to do. Pathetic. And then, when clear, everyone seemed to drive at 21/22 in a 30. Then came across the best....Honda Jazz doing 34 in a 50, and when the limit dropped to 30, they carried on at 34. Then I sat in more traffic. Hell, it was almost at London levels. I did a 19 mile journey averaging 13 mph. I need a drink!
