  1. You really dont need to warm it up for 3/4 minutes, its not an F1 car. Idling when cold can promote carbon buildup, your better off getting in & driving it to warm it up.
  2. The power rating for the R is based on 98RON (which you cant actually buy in the UK). That leaves you with: - 95 RON basic ( you will lose power) - 97 RON super (you will lose a bit of power) - 99RON super (tesco & shell) you will gain a few HP. NOTE that shell v-power will help keep your injectors clean, an issue that plagues VAG direct injection engines as they get older.
  3. Thanks for taking the time to write such a thorough review Rebecca. It’s great to read actual owners thoughts on an 8R, as it’s mostly just journalist feedback out there - after just an hour behind the wheel! On paper I wasn’t all that impressed with the 8R, but now it’s clear the effort VW have put into the chassis and the tech, really help to justify the cost. Looking forward to more detailing pics (it is Easter now!) and further feedback once you pass through the 1,000 mile mark 😃
  4. Did you drive home via Sandbach this afternoon? I saw a Lapiz on a 21 plate in a traffic queue.
  5. my last car was via Carwow (broker) I agreed a part-ex (and played 2 dealers off on the valuation). I drive into dealer in my old car, and drove away in new one. don’t rule out Carwow!
  6. I bought my 7R through a broker, and my current car. As you get to collect from a dealer, and get all the same warranty, finance deals etc, you’ve nothing to lose. You have to be crazy to walk into a dealership and pay full price these days 😮
  7. Even if you are a cash buyer, going with the PCP option (for the extra savings) and settling within a month or so is perfectly legit
  8. its the Corolla (estate), I went for the 2.0 as it’s got reasonable performance although still 1/3rd down on the 7R. It’s actually really good to drive, very smooth & responsive, and plenty practical. Toyota have really upped their game with these new models (GR Yaris!). 50-60mpg on supermarket unleaded means I’ve halved my fuel bill too. I do miss the R, but it was getting to the age where things were starting to go wrong (coolant smell, lumpy idle) and it wasn’t big enough for all our sons stuff. I have to get my R thrills from watching you lot collect your new 8Rs! 😆 looking forward to reading your thoughts on the 8R, and how it compares with the 7 😀
  9. sorry to disappoint you. . . I’ve gone all boring and bought a Toyota Hybrid 🤭
  10. Looks stunning Rebecca! Congratulations 🥳
  11. Think you can tow with a T-Roc R, so perhaps the MK8 Golf R will have the capability.
  12. Hi AJP! I recognise you - also a Mod on MK5GTI (still!) welcome to the group! I rode in Hurdy’s 6R when it was 400+bhp, and in the early days when it was stage 2+, awesome machine, and part of the reason I bought an R
  13. Thanks Rebecca, me too. Very hard decision, but it’s become an expensive garage ornament and we are planning a house extension for early next year so could do with the cash. I may find myself driving my sisters (formally my mum’s) Aygo for the few trips out I do these days. I’ll stick around on here though - May be tempted by another in future, possibly a Mk8, when the looks have grown on me.
  14. yeah I agree. Couldn’t believe how much I got for mine, couldn’t turn down the offer. Especially as VW offered me 19k for it, nearly 2 years ago!
  15. Just sold mine to WBAC, as I’m barely using it these days. Offered 18k, and got pretty close on the day. Only front stone chips, a little scratch on rear bumper And short MOT (2 months) which they could complain about. doubt I’d have got that privately, even after several time wasters. 2015 (65) with 29,500 miles.
  16. opie oils did a post on another forum (maybe MK5GTI) several years ago with a technical comparison between the OEM & Millers. Will see if I can find the post
  17. VW’s recommendations are based on average usage with a standard car, this guys is tuned. millers Nanodrive CFS NT+ far exceeds the VW standards for oil, providing changed every 8k Miles. I’d go with the specialists advice like Will from VRS, and go Nano
  18. Some threads on here that point towards injectors. If it’s idle, then it should be port injectors. ‘The fuel injector clinic’ (on Facebook), part of R-Tech will clean them for £12 an injector.
  19. Horrible situation, really feel for you with this 😢 As a last resort, if VW don’t play ball (fingers crossed they do!) one of the reputable VW specialists will no doubt have a spare used gearbox knocking about, they will sort you about for less than half of what VW are after.
  20. Ive done that too (bar the snow grate)
  21. Tyres with soft sidewalks - like MPS4S really improve the ride on 19s
  22. One thing I’ve noticed after a good 2+ weeks of driving is the throttle calibration is now the same across each driving mode. It’s 100% the throttle map from DSG-S mode (Pre-OBD11 tweak), which I was always a fan of. Just a shame that a switch to DSG-S mode now only offers improved exhaust sounds, without an improvement in response. fuel economy is the best it’s ever been, which I wasn’t expecting.
  23. turbo gives the power, however different oil circulation system, sodium filled valves, stronger pistons and different head makes it resilient at this level of power. t-Roc R has same engine as Golf R google differences between Golf GTI and Golf R for more techy detail
  24. custom remap (like R-Tech) can sort the throttle response / pedal map without the need for a pedal box
