I've been around the car industry long enough to know how much information is given to dealers. When I was at Ford, we didn't officially know the Focus RS was coming, even though we'd taken deposits for a couple. There are a few things that make sense. The "Edition 45" "Clubsport" "final edition" whatever you want to call it with the 5 cylinder is a thing that's been made. Its running the 'Ring on VW factory plates on closed test days. Unless Audi have decided they want to test the next RS3 in the Golf body why would you chuck resources at that. The Golf is being left behind in the power race. A lot of people buy cars on headline power. If your top of the range car is the least powerful whilst being in the ballpark on price in the segment, you'll lose sales. I'm not sure 350bhp will cut it anymore. I'm usually wrong, but interesting topic!

Just to add a little to this and to be taken with a HUGE pinch of 'dealer told me' Dropped mine off for a service this morning and got talking to the chap about my car which led to MK8 chat In summary R to have 400BHP hybrid putting it back with the RS, AMG, RS3 etc. No 3 door but estate will be back. GTi to take over the 300BHP sector with S3 and Type R. Due Q4 2019 or Q1 2020 Also the RS3 engine'd car we've seen on the 'Ring is Edition 45. Set for limited production 440ishBHP no idea on number of seats, doors or wheel drive as that is still be decided. Again, pinch of salt as it was said in dealers. Interesting if true...

Is that the Maxton spoiler?

The 4 exhausts are a red flag. People must the think the estate is slower than the lesser booted R's. Dunno, I'm the same as you though, don't bother getting into it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Not sure if it's the yoofs around here but, everyone seems to want to race/get past/see how fast it is. Focus ST drivers seem to be the ones who want to tell their mates that "did a Golf R" Had one on the way home the other night, fairly brisk 30-70, not full beans, not sport, not changing down more than 1 gear and he stuck to my bumper like I was towing him. I don't think he realised that I was abut 50% throttle as the grin on his face was massive. Sure it'll be on the STOC by now. Also, you have to tip runs and other such dirty jobs.

pretty sure the 7.5 can be coded. Get the dealer to do it as a sorry for telling you it could in the first place!

I took a gamble on a 3 year lease, not seeing the facelift happening. I'm due a replacement in Nov '19. Can see me extending a few months and see what happens.

I'm 5 minutes away. Might go and scout it out on Saturday. See if they'll let me have a go Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I reckon Lawrie has treated his better than anyone! I wouldn't mind buying that one. The obviously leased ones you see being driven like they're stolen with yoofs hanging out of them, you can keep them.

Autocar Review of 7.5R Estate v Audi RS2
Stuey replied to Tigersargyle's topic in VW Golf R MK7 Chat
Bang on the money Splats. I had a Ka as a courtesy car a few years ago and that thing was wicked fun, lift off oversteer etc and all at 28mph! As you said, Golf is well north of the speed limit before it starts to do anything. Still love it though! -
yep! Fancy a track slot too, they have some 20 minute slots for clubs but you need so many cars for exclusivity. Pretty sure we won't get that but could get lumped with a couple of other clubs.

Like that! Looks very similar to LSG on a cloudy day. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I just wish it wasn't so expensive! The wife would kill me if I cleared the little ones uni fund! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Weird how different people perceive tyres. I like the SE001's that are on the R. A bit noisy perhaps but 3500 miles in and not showing wear or anything and grip privded is winning the battle with my testicular fortitude. Maybe it's the cars reacting differently to tyres?

thanks for your thoughts Ross! I agree with everything you say about the sound when tootling around. The Mrs drove off in mine fairly vigorously the other day and it sounded really nice on the outside. It's just the drone that worries me a bit. I suppose it could just go back on if it's horrible. Exhaust fabricators in Derby then anyone?

Beat me to it! Just taken a very similar picture. Can't say I've regretted not having DCC, although I'm on povvo spec 18's so have the comfort of the sidewall. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Resonator delete on the Estate Folks, The bug is biting hard and the best option at the minute is to delete the resonator, however, my question is this, Will the estate pop/bang/burble like it's less booted brother with it being a flap free set up? Maybe it'll do it all the time as they're no flaps to open or never as no flaps to open. Will it be a droney mess and I'll be having it welded back on in a fortnight? Thoughts?

Welcome! Mine is from Inchape Chester, the lady, Lynsey was fantastic and the experience great. No complaints. There is no 1 dealer that people use though. Just jump on the brokers sites such as OrangeWheels and Drive the Deal and get the best price you can.

I think 130c is the burning/degradation point on fully synthetic oil, keep it under 120 and you'll be fine ;-)

Welcome! 1. Cant imagine for a minute that the Golfs boot will be bigger than a Mondeo. It's a massive space yes, but the Mondeo is a size up. 2. Nope, no tow bar due to space under the car. Diffusers, exhausts, diffs etc all get in the way 3. How heavy is your foot? My tootle to work through town and country sees 30mpg. "Exploiting" the cars power on a head clearing blast wont see you past 20. Not had a long run in mine yet but a short motorway trip had me in the high 30's 4. 335 miles was stated on my last fill. 5. No more expensive than my old Citroen. I paid £159 for a service plan covering the first 2 years. DSG service is due at 40k. Not sure on the cost though. Obviously local friendly indy garage will be cheaper than VW 6. The S4 is next level in terms of power and size. It'll cost you £10k more to buy but insurance, fuel, servicing costs etc will be much higher too. £500 for a basic service on an S4 for example. Depending on options you tick it will be more basic than the R too and in the real world not much, if any quicker. I'm still finding my way around my estate so some of my answers may not be 100% accurate but are my experiences.

My 66 plate LSG estate will be lurking around from Saturday for the week. First chance we've had to come up to our place this year. Give us a flash if you see us! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
