Sorry for the slow update. Turns out the bearing had no play in it, just made the noise that is stated in the bulletin so they assumed it was knackered. Had they listened to me in the first place they needn’t have replaced it. They haven’t followed the bulleting when installing the new one so it’ll be going back to have it reassembled as per the bulletin to avoid this happening again. The manager had to apologise to me with his tail between his legs and has footed the bill for the splitter too, so all in all it was a success. Big thank you to @gregozedobefor supplying me with said bulletin, to say I owe you a beer is an understatement. Saved me atleast £250. Vwroc 1 - VW dealer 0😜.

Picked the car up, noise has disappeared. Splitter isn’t as bad as they made out although it does require a replacement, no damage done to the front bumper either. Exactly as I thought they used the “well the car has been lowered” bullshit, but he wasn’t expecting me to pull out the bulletin above. That certainly raised a few eye brows. They’ve taken the details of the bulletin and are going to look into it, the manager is going to contact me next week. I may be getting the splitter paid for as well now if he can use the bulletin as evidence. I will update next week, hopefully I’ll have a better outcome than I expected.

Thats exactly what I was looking for! Thank you very much 😁.

I’m trying to get hold of said bulleting, although I’m not having much luck at the moment. I’m sure it was posted on here once before. I’ve let them replace the bearing and I’ve footed the bill for the splitter as that was the cheapest option out of the two for me. Infact they’ve just phoned me to say its ready to be picked up. I needed the car back and was obviously unable to drive it like it was.
-
I thought this may be the case. Doesn’t help my situation having the car lowered which will only strengthen any case against me if I were to take it further. I just hope they haven’t damaged the front bumper because the splitter was fixed on very securely. The car was 4 wheel aligned after the bump and I have the evidence to prove it. It was a lengthy process as it took almost 3 months to diagnose the issue the first time around. There ended up being a bulletin sent out from volkswagen in regards to a change material used to manufacture the hubs. It caused an issue with the wheel bearing and created the loud clicking noise I was experiencing. They replaced both the bearing and hub and the noise disappeared. I think you’re both right and its going to be one of those where I’ll have to take it on the chin. Thanks both for taking the time to reply.

Hi guys, haven’t posted on here much lately as I’ve got a lot going on in life at the moment, but I’ve still been lurking when I get chance. Anyway I’m after some advice after an issue with my local dealer today. My car developed a really loud clicking noise, similar to the one I had a few years ago. Booked it into the dealers for them to take a look, turns out its the wheel bearing. Back in 2018 I had a drive shaft, hub and wheel bearing replaced by them, all paid for through my insurance company after someone crashed into me. The work was carried out in September 2018 and my car has covered 7000 miles since, they’re now saying the wheel bearing is knackered and its £360 to fix. They then go on to say there has been a bit of a problem and they’ve snapped my reiger front splitter getting the car on the ramp, after I had already pre warned them about it, like I do every time I go in🤬. Back to the wheel bearing.. They say its only a 2 year warranty on parts which was up in September 2020, but I’m arguing that there is no way a wheel bearing should fail as bad as it has in only 7000 miles. Their offer is they’ll cover the wheel bearing cost and I cover the splitter cost as thats the cheapest option for me. Obviously I’m super pissed off about the whole thing but if the wheel bearing is out of the 2 year warranty, even though I have only covered 7000 miles, do I have a leg to stand on to try and take it further? The dealer is part of the monmotors group and I cannot get through to speak with any one worth speaking to there. The manager in the dealership won’t do anything but offer what I’ve stated. Anyone care to offer some advice, or what would you do in this scenario?

I couldn’t agree more.

Racing line are supplying a full new set of springs under warranty. In fairness to them I can’t fault their customer service.
-
Thats exactly what I thought. I definitely haven’t hit any big pot holes or bumps that may have caused a hairline fracture either. Yeah all 4 were fitted at the same time. I have messaged racing line on Facebook, so I’ll see if they get back to me. I’ll try and contact them tomorrow too if I can find a number for them. Need to get it sorted asap because with Christmas just around the corner I could be without a car for 3 weeks now. I’ve been offered a brand new set of b14’s for £700 but I’d rather not have to fork out £850 including installation too. Service is due first week of January as well... always comes at the wrong time doesn’t it 😂.

Just reversed off the drive, heard a loud noise which I knew straight away was the noise of a spring snapping. Quick check of the rear drivers side and yep, there it is snapped clean. The springs were installed on the car on the 19/12/2017 and the car has since done nearly bang on 10,000 miles since installing them. Its never been tracked and very rarely driven hard either. I know springs can snap at this time of year due to the constant changing temperatures, but I’ve yet had to defrost the windscreen this year yet so it hasn’t been that cold. Do you think its worth contacting vwr directly with this matter or just buy replacements? I would expect a spring to last longer than 3 years/10k miles to be honest.

Mk8 Golf R Reveal 4 Nov - on DtD, C2C and VW Configurator...
E-V-A-N-S replied to AndyR's topic in VW Golf R MK8 Chat
I have to be honest, its growing on me already 🙈. I hated it when I first seen images and rumours of spec at the beginning of the year. No manual option and 5 doors instantly got my back up, but then I considered an RS3 not too long ago which only comes with both of these options. I can get over the gear box option but I have no need for 5 doors and always prefer the look of a 3 door so thats the biggest bugbare to me. I’m on the fence about everything being touch screen and was hoping they’d update the drivers display as I always disliked the lack of depth in the digital dash compared to analogue clocks. There’s a few smaller things I’m not too sure on either like the placement of the rear R badge and that front light bar for example. That being said I’m really looking forward to seeing some unbiased reviews on it when press cars start being released. By unbiased I mean honest reviewers that will tell us what they really think. Not like most of these YouTubers that are afraid to speak their mind incase the manufacturer won’t give them the opportunity next time. I’ll be looking to replace my mk7 R next year and have been holding off for the release of the mk8 R to see if it can sway me away from an M2 competition... I suppose only time will tell. -

Which front splitter for quality & fitment?

I have a reiger splitter on mine. One of my favourite mods on my car. Fit is spot on too. I used a few 6mm bolts with domed heads and lock nuts to ensure it doesn’t budge. Reason I went for reiger over anything else as I like how it follows the lines of the bumper and looks oem. I’ve got this fitted alongisde the maxton side skirts and rear extensions and the performance pack rear spoiler lip. If I didn’t get the pp lip second hand at a good price I’d have gone for the srs-tec rear spoiler extension but it does come in quite expensive as you have to get it sprayed before installing. Imo these mods are subtle and all tie in together perfectly giving the oem+ look I was after. edit: The quality of the reiger splitter is spot on. Honestly can’t fault it. Feels strong and sturdy, finish is great, lines up perfectly and the 2 pre drilled holes to allow you access to screws to remove the bumper are also perfectly aligned. Not the best pictures as the shade kind of hides it but I can get better pics if you require some. -
Thank you Bec 😁 I’ve had my fair share of broken bones, bumps and bruises over the years but I think this up there with the most painful. Never mind hopefully it won’t be too long of a recovery. Thankfully the bike didn’t even have a scratch.
-
Well it didn’t take me long... Went to bike park Wales on Thursday, overshot one of the jumps and landed to flat. Not sure what happened from there but ended up going over the handlebars and slammed into the berm. Result is a broken scapula (shoulder blade), plenty of torn ligaments and covered from head to toe in cuts and bruises 😂. There’ll be no riding for a few months, absolutely gutted.
-
Ah damn that looks nasty. Sorry to see this buddy. Hope its gets repaired back to its former glory.
-
Ah yes I can see it now! Doesn’t take long for the rust to come through does it.
-
Well this has pissed on my chips in more ways than one😂 I hope my hammerite lasts atleast a couple of months! I’d seen a few pictures of people on here fit standard rears and never seen or maybe never noticed the coating before, so thought it was something new. Never mind back to rusty hubs it is😫.
-
When I phoned the dealership yesterday they wanted £92 per disc so I said no chance am I paying that. I asked what’s the best price they can do on them other wise I’ll just get them elsewhere. He came back with £62 per disc which I didn’t mind paying so it came to £124 in total. Mad how they just knocked £60 off in 30 seconds. I always do the same when I book my service too. Say I can get it cheaper elsewhere, not once have they asked for proof and have always honoured the price I say I can get it for 😆.
-
I’ve just put 5 layers of silver hammerite on so hopefully it’ll hold the rust back a bit 😂 I had a look on the box and can’t find any manufacturing names. Box just says made is Germany with volkswagen part numbers I’ll have another look tomorrow once the paint has dried to see if I can find any manufacturing stamps on the discs.
-
Just picked up a set of standard rear discs from the dealers. To my surprise they are now coated silver from factory. I’m going to give them an extra coat of smooth hammerite silver anyway but maybe this will help to stop them rusting as bad.

I’ve had my plate for about 10 years now and I love it. When I buy a car now its doesn’t feel mine until the plate is on there. Not bothered about hiding the year or anything I just think its a nice personal touch. They’re not for everyone, some people don’t like the idea and others like myself love them. If you like them and want one then get it. Don’t go off what other people think, its your money, your car, so go for it.

Think mine could be the top mounts to be honest but thought I’d try greasing the rest first. I’m planning on changing from springs to coilovers soon so will change the top mounts then if the noise is still there. -
I know this is a common issue but to save me paying through the nose getting the dealers to do it for me. Does anyone know what bushes to grease and what grease to use? I’ve got it coming from the front and rear of my car now and I’ve got a week off work in a couple of weeks so along with fitting new rear brakes and haldex oil change it’s an ideal opportunity to sort this too.
