  1. Don't go on dyno readings, they mean nothing really. Your car could read 400 bhp on another dyno. If your car drives well then that's all that matters. If you are unhappy with the performance then go back. You could also check performance on a dragy
  2. I'm APR stage 2 high torque and wouldn't swap this for any other map. Torque is delivered from very low down the rev range and it continues to pull smoothly all the way to the limit. It definitely isn't all or nothing (like my old Impreza lol).
  3. I always use V-Power as my Mk7 (APR Stage 2) seems much sharper on this than Momentum. One of the admins on the FB group did some logging/testing on both fuels and V-Power was better - worth a read if you are a member of the group. Again his car is stage 2, albeit MRC mapped. On a standard car there might not be any difference.
  4. Just a quick but related question. Do your insurance companies provide cover without any problems when you start adding uprated components to the suspension - front and rear sway bars, end links and so on? Thanks
  5. Phone Dan at CLP Sheffield. He will sort you out with everything you could ever need for road or track for the Golf R - mapping by APR and TVS, brakes, suspension, sway bars, servicing; the lot. Can't recommend him enough
  6. Get the Scorpion Sports Cat; it flows as good as any other and is lower down the downpipe (godd for crackle maps). Quite a few have used it at stage 3 and it flows well. It is relatively inexpensive compared to others and mine flies through the MOT with no problems at stage 2.
  7. I use CLP at Sheffield and won't go anywhere else: http://clpautomotive.co.uk/
  8. Just for info - if you've not looked on the CLP Facebook page lately, they announced yesterday that, in the absence of APR stage 2, they are now doing TVS stage 2 ECU software to go with the TVS dsg tunes that they've been doing for a while. They are doing a launch deal of £999 for ECU/DSG maps and NGK plugs! (DSG map alone is normally £689). Dyno figures look very good - and their dyno is a killer for anyone who likes pub talk (not me)!
  9. Exact same ones that I've got. On their website, APR recommend changes every 10-15,000 miles. I can't see it being too different for other tuners.
  10. CLP at Sheffield service my car. They won't fit RS7 plugs to the Mk7 R due to the known problems. If you give them a call, I'm sure Dan will explain/advise. I've also stolen this anonymously from another group re the Mk7 R: "Caution - Many tuners will not tune a car to stage 2 with RS7 plugs, let alone stage 3. There have been cases of misfire and broken tips / ceramic. I would recommend getting some NGK r7438-9 instead" It's up to you at the end of the day but I fully trust CLP.
  11. I was warned against RS7 plugs for some reason by quite a few people. I can't recall why, but I've had no problems with NGK
  12. Sorry i cant help re. Unicorn. For what it's worth, I've got APR stage 2. I fitted the uprated NGK plugs as APR recommend. I believe it reduces the chances of plug tip breakage. It won't make any difference to performance
  13. My Mrs says that my wheels are perfectly good enough lol. Saving up for a Remus 🤫
  14. This is a photo from Dan, with Cadiz 👍
  15. I've only got 18's as well - 18 for go, 19 for show! Drop Dan a line or call him on Monday - he will tell you exactly what size spacers you would need. His email address is dan@clpautomotive.co.uk
  16. Dan at CLP Sheffield does the Macan calipers with plenty of options: https://clptuning.co.uk/product/macan-calliper-kit-vag-mqb/
  17. Try Shak at LSG Performance (Bolton). He's a top bloke and one of the sponsers on the Facebook Mk7 R group. I've heard lots of good reports on his exhaust tips for the Golf. Here you go: https://www.lsgperformance.co.uk/collections/vw-golf-r/products/mk7-mk7-5-golf-r-4-exhaust-tips
  18. Good to hear the old one got through 10 years of hard usage. It just seems odd that they only warranty them for 2 years on the Mk7 Golf. I might get the apr crackle map enabled if it is possible to do so after apr cease to flash them later this month. I'm assuming I'll be okay as I already have the stage 2 map.
  19. Two previous cars - Impreza STI's, tuned with similar power/torque to Golf. No traction control on those cars and none needed. No need for it on the Golf. I've had tuned performance cars for 30 years with no electronic traction gadgetry... end of, thank you
  20. I thought that sounded good enough on the film clip (not many do), so must be superb in the flesh. Thanks very much for the offer - I'm up in rural North Lincolnshire unfortunately. Happy to take your good word for it 👍
  21. I viewed this one on YouTube - it's a Racingline map but sounds good. Don't know if the owner is on here
  22. I understand you can get an adapter to mate up to the Scorpion. Have you got a crackle map? I haven't at present as it sounds dire with a res delete. I might get APR to enable it if it sounds better with the Remus.
  23. Thanks for that, I'm hoping to mate it up with my Scorpion sports cat downpipe - the resonated one sounds spot on 👍
  24. Has anyone run a Remus catback for a number of years? I'm thinking that I might keep my relatively low mileage Mk7 stage 2 car for the next 5-6 years. At some point, I'm likely to buy a Remus resonated catback (not interested in other makes of exhaust). My only concern is that the warranty period is limited to 2 years. I expected more than that if I was to shell out almost £1,400 (carbon fibre tips option is out of my price range at £1,860!). Interestingly, their Audi S4 exhaust seems to be warranted for 3 years - still not long though. I don't expect any problems as they are made from stainless steel, but I would be interested in hearing the thoughts of others. Thanks in advance 😊
  25. I had a couple of Impreza STI's before the Golf - never had any problems with any of this traction business lol
