Yes, for sure. The dealer told me that anyone ordering now would be waiting well into next year. I was meant to be collecting mine this month, then was pushed back to November build date, then last month it was week 51! And now week 4/22 all unconfirmed so may be later. Yeah, in my head I'm thinking Easter 2022 and hopefully under the year from the original order!!
I'm in NI, so all registration plates here are dateless, so no 22/72 reg plate rules apply here like in GB mainland. I've got a nice private plate anyway which is currently on my 7.5R and will go on the 8R. Nothing for us both to do, but just sit it out and look forward to our cars! 😑

Thanks Andy, we’re all getting there!

Hoping for the best for our Christmas trip but you do have to present a negative PCR regardless to fly and be allowed entry into Maldives.  At least we’ve sorted being able to postpone flights and hotel if any positive PCR results.  We are all testing negative now on lateral flow tests but PCR is more detailed test.

On the upside I’m now free from self isolation so a planned week in the Lakes with my daughter and sister can go ahead, so the R will be fired up and off on the 400 mile trip up there tomorrow.   Really looking forward to that!  Do lots of hours and mikes in the car tomorrow, makes up for recent driving inactivity.

Here’s hoping the car behaves itself.  So far today, none of the gremlin strops of yesterday, thankfully.  Hopefully it got that out of its system and tomorrow will be gremlin free.  I’ll be using the ACC quite a bit so be interesting to see if that behaves, so far I’ve had no problems with it but who knows what tomorrow might bring.  😁

Thanks for the update, as suspected I think dates are still dropping back. Ordered mine a couple of weeks before you so I suspect mine will be (unconfirmed) built in Jan.

So even if yours would be built at end of Jan you wouldn't be looking to pick it up until at least the start of March (ie a month later from start of build). So new reg for sure.

Glad to hear you are on the mend Becs and hopefully your smell/taste will come back soon. Sorry to hear about your other half and hope he feels better too soon! You've all had not a great time of it!

Also hope all goes well for clear tests for your holiday. Is there any way they can accept you had covid months ago even if you test positive at the time of travel?

I’m pretty much recovered Andy all except for smell and taste which is still awol. Apparently that can take a few weeks to return.  I can taste salt and sugar in certain things but no actual flavour.  A packet of salt & vinegar hula hoops is as good as it gets taste wise atm - salt plus acid equals a semblance of taste.   I’m actually missing the loss of smell more than the taste.  My other half got Covid too last week (from me) and he’s had it worse with more symptoms and also lost his taste, I feel for him as he was enjoying its partial return after previously having lost sense of taste for years, as a result of throat cancer treatment a few years back.   Still at least we’ve all had it in our household now and hoping that’s it!

Emailed my dealer yesterday and my unconfirmed build week is now week 4 2022! Ordered mid May 2021. At least I won't have to drive it through the winter!

Mine is having a bad day today.  Several journey throughout the day and each time multiple instances of the rear traffic alert, stop start (no great loss) and a few other things not available.   On one journey the Mode button in centre panel refused to work (all the other buttons worked fine) as did the R button on the steering wheel.  So I trundled along in Sport.   At next start up, random notifications on the infotainment to say various things now activated and to inform me that the Dynamic Background Lighting free trail is no longer available and I should go to the shop - it’s clearly reminiscing  as my free trial of that ended about 6 months ago. 😁  One instance of it not loading my profile and hanging, but on restarting it loaded my profile but then threw up a random screen (see pic) before calming down and normal service being resumed.

First time I’ve driven it in 10 days (due to Covid isolation) and me thinks it protesteth at being ignored for so long!   To appease it, tonight I shoved it in Special mode, took it out onto some dark bendy rural roads, engaged the IQ Matrix lights, and gave it a snap, crackle and pop run out to the Shell garage, filled it up with V-Power (which is finally only just back in stock after the fuel panic crisis).  At that point I forgot all about the infotainment system idiocy and enjoyed the ride!

Yeah I'm not expecting miracles with delivery times the initial estimate was for July next year(which just so happens to be my 30th birthday and the 3rd year of the gti). I knew it would take a while before I ordered so anytime before October next year is a win for me. As for the flaps and mats, my gti has them and it makes a hell of a difference for keeping it clean. The reversible load liner is more to protect the boot lip as people are using the boot, had quite a few scratches caused by people not caring because it isn't there car.

It is my first time ordering from factory but I'll keep it in mind when the time comes for a new one 😅

Comfortable, quiet (or not overly noisy), not too showy (think Civic Type R if you want showy), and I couldnt care less about the drift mode, even though I ordered the PP.

The Mk 8 carries on from where the 7.5 left off being a great all-rounder. It'll never be a i20N, i30N or Civic Type R. Neither did VW design it to be.

Good job not all hot hatches are the same. 🙄

Well said and mirrors my thoughts exactly. It was always meant to be on the subtle side.

The R32 was more of a 'hot hatch' albeit not that 'hot' compared with the current Golf R.

As for one the comments left re 'young reprobates buying old MK7/7.5 Golf Rs and then driving them like absolute lunatics, often with illegal plates and tints', I'd go as far as saying that certain cars shouldn't be insurable for under 25's. The Golf R being one of them.

Back in the 80's there were very few young drivers in newish hot hatches. They simply couldn't afford them or the insurance, which rocketed in the early 90's. It put me off buying an 18-month old Astra GTE 16V and I was mid-30's at the time!

Haha ..........  indeed 🙂. I have no interest in the GTI Clubsport but no doubt its a great car.

I think I was just trying not to be too "R biased" and give the Clubsport a chance. 🤣

No think the CS and R is neck to neck on a Rolling Race to..

The R was 1 sec faster over this run, and that is just 0-60 in 4,5 compare to 5,5...So there is the difference :)..

Remember the R has 20hp more and just like a Fat dude extra in weight

This just reminds me why I bought (buying) a 4wd car. 🙂

To be fair, it almost looked like the GTI was reeling in the R towards the end of the race and given the amount of slip at the start, not a bad time from the GTI.

I think on a rolling race, it would be a different story.

(Also in the wet would be a different story) 😆
