Well I’ll back any meet or RR day / Sprint or trackday. I organised stands at Castle Combe in 2019/20.

Im hoping to go with Blondefella and others end of April to the Ring.

Why not contact Awesome ( Mark Ash) for a RR day later in year when we hope to get back to normal?

Yeah, I hear you. Nobody really knows where we’ll be in 6 months or even a year, but being optimistic it’s at least the type of thing to look forward to when the time comes.

Anyway, this thread is here now as a placeholder of sorts, so hopefully as time goes on we can build some demand.

It’s a bad time for everyone, but I think it’s healthy to try and look forward positively 🙂

    UPDATE!
so a bit of news as it all happened. After this post i had a 2 week holiday where whilst sunning myself when the lockdown lifted,  i ordered important parts such as the cam follower and wheels for the car.
as soon as i got home i got back to it installing the new Ceramic Cam Follower from WASA motorsport. Plastered all over as being stronger and longer wearing than OEM.

2 days later, it shattered in the engine on the way to work. Luckily i live around the corner from R-Tech performance so they managed to diagnose this as the larger spring from my APR HPFP when compressed pushing the thicker inner walls of the ceramic cam follower and shattering. This should’ve been picked up on testing however it came to like these parts hadn’t actually been tested!  Luckily R-Tech helped Contact WASA so i would get some compensation to fix this mess, however the damage had been done.

APR HPFP - Smashed to pieces
Cam Follower - Smashed to pieces
Cam - worn beyond belief for the short amount of time!

and little bits of follower scattered through the engine, blocking my oil ways and causing pressure issues. I was gutted to say the least.

thankfully, R-tech cracked on fantastically helping me source a replacement CDL engine (it was deemed cheaper than repairing the current one) and making sure it ran 100%. And they did a fantastic job fitting me in between their busy schedule.

the car returned 2 weeks later with a fresh lease of life!

now my new HPFP is the VIS uprated one and i must say it is just as good as my APR one, the thing pulls incredibly well still on the APR map currently but booking back into R-Tech for a map in the near future

also whilst changing engines my clutch was in pretty bad shape so i replaced this with a Helix one with organic plate from AKS tuning.

Apologies for the big post, but i thought it was important to explain where i’ve been! It’s been an expensive couple of months. And now back on to the fun side of things.

pics of Cam follower and HPFP attached, to show you just how screwed i was. A lot of bad luck here!

    SECOND UPDATE!
i thought i would post this separately, after the sob story i thought id get onto the better side of things.

The new wheels for the R, BBS Speedlines with machined flat faces, in gloss black, i’ll add some pictures further down. 19x8.5 et48 and a perfect fitment for the R, wrapped in Eagle F1’s, they set the car off on another level!

also my private reg has finally gone accross so the R is now on the X18NDY plate.

my parts hoarding whist the R has been away has led to a few things to be installed:

    - Killallwipers rear de-wiper kit

    - LED Undercar Lighting (yes this could be a bit awful, but i thought for a bit of fun and a few photo op’s it could be nice for a cheap mod!

-Airlift Performance 3H with Performance Struts (it was inevitable that it would be bagged with my track record, and the black friday deals were just too tempting!)

that is all to report for now! I’ve been bedding the new clutch in so have been driving it to work and back and i love it. Will be sad to put it in the garage and get my daily TT back out, but needs must! (Plus its a little heavy on the fuel, im sure you know what i mean! 😂)

AJP got a reaction from Count Drunkula in Loba lo4xx turbo any good?
Little update for anyone interested in the Loba LO4xx and what it’s capable of. Mapping done by Steve at Statller Power Developments using custom Ecotune software. This was one of the best runs, 460bhp peak, on pump. No meth or tricks to make the power, just a good hardware setup and good tune. They dialled it back to keep some headroom and make sure it’s running well within safe limits.

This turbo makes useful boost at high RPM. I believe it peaks at 2 bar. They avoided mapping any big spike of torque (which should be a bit kinder on my standard internals). Torque is ‘only’ peaking at 400lb/ft, but as you can see from the graph it’s not exactly dropping off a cliff as the engine speed increases like you might see on some other small frame turbos. A plateau is better than a spike. The existing DSG map isn’t preventing clutch slip unfortunately, so that will also be remapped soon.

It’s a smooth and progressive map. The power is linear - the more the revs rise the more you’re pushed into the seat. A huge transformation from the previous GIAC map and EBC setup. And I now have OEM throttle control with the N75 back in the loop, which is nice. It’s really good to drive.

Great work from Steve at Statller, Stan at Ecotune, and of course Darius Loba 😉

AJP reacted to Scotty2hotty in Loba lo4xx turbo any good?
I honestly thought the car was much better at stage 2+, it felt quick and was great to drive and it made 375bhp and around 380-400ftlb (can’t remember exactly.

At stage 3 it mate 414/376 (🤔 less torque and it was felt)

hardware from what I remember :-
    LO4XX
    Full milltek turbo back (decat)
    LOBA HPFP
    RS4 fuel reg/valve ( think that’s right ha)
    RS3 In tank pump
RS3 injectors ( advised to get lthese over RS4 as the spray pattern is better 🤔 think it’s bull s#*t tbf as another tuner told me some horror stories)
    Airtec intercooler
Ram air induction kit with the wider pipe work
there may be more but it’s been a few years.

I’m running the same wheels as you along with he Forge 6pots on the front and 4 pots on the rear with out spacers
The fronts come in 2 disc sizes you will want the bigger discs
I run Tarox 6 pots on one of my TTs they are a very slim caliper might also be worth a look

AJP reacted to Count Drunkula in Oil Temperature on MFD?
My old 2010 mk6 R had oil temp on the DIS and funnily enough also had the intermittent lighting issue on the dials.

New owner got the dials fixed at main dealer,  they offered a substantial price reduction to replace if they kept the old part in exchange when fitting new dial cluster.

Yes it seemed to apply to the later ones in that thread.  Throughout the life of the mk7 there’s been anomalies with some cars having certain buttons, software options etc and others not (within same lifespan) so it wouldn’t be that unusual for something like that to be the case. Frustrating though when some have it and some don’t and if you can’t enable it.  It’s the screen I must have up in my DIS so I can understand your desire to have it.

Sorry, my bad, I thought you’d posted in the mk7 section.  Must get that eye test!   😁

I had a mk6 (GTI though) and can’t find the life of me remember for sure if oil temp was in the menu.  I think it did.

I had a similar moment a couple of years ago, going down the coast road in Pembrokeshire. I’d already navigated my way through Welshpool and up and over the hills, where it’s notorious for camera vans, at a steady and lawful speed.

I was literally 2 miles from my destination (of a 6 hour drive) coming out of Newtown towards Fishguard, 30 zone into derestricted. Squeezed the throttle a bit early, up to ~60mph marginally before the derestriction sign, and boom... camera van on the right!

I was convinced I’d copped it. But nothing came of it. Otherwise, I don’t think I’d have found the irony (of being ultra-obedient for the duration of one of the best driving roads in the country (A44/470) and then letting my guard down at the last moment) very amusing.

OP, honestly if the number on your speedometer started with a 7, you really shouldn’t lose sleep over it. It’s highly unlikely you’ll get done.

I like to keep things low key so I’m in two minds whether to do a full build thread.

But I’ll get a few photos up once they’re on. Also to remind everyone that silver is still a good look... everyone seems to have gone crazy for black or gunmetal wheels in the last few years, so I’m fighting for the cause! 😁

Well, I’ve just ordered some CH-R. Maybe a bit of a safe bet in terms of design, but I know they’ll look perfect on the mk6 and also be of high quality 🙂

Close... but again, not identical. The difference is in the centre around the bolt holes.

Got to admit though, CI-R are gorgeous! I’d probably buy a set if I could find 19s in silver! 😍

I spoke to SRS and they suggested the wheels are Vorsteiner. I did a quick image search and found lots of maybes...! Problem with this is the mk6 in the photo was probably a 2010-12 project, so it’s hard to know anything for sure.

Anyway, I’ve put a wanted ad in the classifieds for some CH-R or similar. Obviously a wheel like this or a CI-R would be considered as well. So if anyone has something, shout up 👍🏻
