Hola mi amigo! Welcome to the forum!
  2. Bloody hell @dv52 what a generous share of knowledge. How the heck do you know all that? 😂

The wagon looks lovely! How are you finding it? I've just picked up a 7.5 hatch, and I'm feeling very impressed over the first 100 miles or so, really tickling my pickle so far. Interested in your thoughts coming from the 996, as I've done something very mildly similar, replacing an E63 AMG with a R, and whilst vastly different propositions, and perhaps perceived by some as a "downgrade" I'm really rather chuffed.

    Hello, new owner

Well I've got it, and I've done a quick run round some fun roads and I am happy. It's not a perfect machine, but it is a wonderful compromise, and I don't think I'll miss the E63, which is high praise in my book. I'll come up with some more nuanced thoughts and a comparison to the outgoing car in a couple of 100 miles or so. Now, just need to figure out how to get more attention when I'm driving it. 😉

No harm no foul. No harm planned, just a silly name that I can appreciate people might not want to read, hopefully no long term harm done 😂
  7. Welcome @imi a, Fellow forum nub saying hello. I'm picking my new to me and first ever VW, let along a performance VW, tomorrow (23 hours 46 minutes to go..) so I've been obsessively reading the fourm. One thing I've seen quite commonly among a big chunk of the enthusiasts on the site, is that performance golf's seem to get under the skin and people keep coming back for more (I'm hoping for a long loving relationship with mine). What is that keeps you coming back to the Golf, but in particular performance golf's? Whats the xfactor that makes you buy another one? Would you change any of your mk7s for anything else or are they parts of the family?

    Hello, new owner

Anything you miss from the C63 to R? My E63 was last of the RWD models, wouldn't have it any other way! The E63 has been great, but it is eye wateringly expensive to run - I did 25k miles in the previous 12 months (commuting from South coast to North Yorkshire) with an average MPG of 23. Front discs are also £500 a side 😂 which stings a bit. It's been fantastic [broadly reliable], and great at straight lines, but just too fat to be what I like out of a fun car, corners! I'm sure the golf will give me some straight line thrills but help me find the joy of the twisties again. Either way looking forward to finding out (only 48 hours to go.....) @Crick we don't talk of the before times.
  9. Hello @Crick, Just came to check out your thread as fellow newbie. Certainly seems a bit of a painful journey, glad you bet there in the end. I hope its worth the 2.5 hour walk! Top tip on the factory reset on the infotainment. The Stagea is brilliant, bit different to a modern golf, more pictures if you've got them please!

    Hello, new owner

May this thread stand as testament to my hubris. Thanks for changing it. Thanks to all for the tips on the pedal box, will have to do some research.

    Hello, new owner

Tough crowd 😂 but totally understandable feedback, I am both a bit crass and immature, happy to change. @Booth11 would "dog" suffice? @NRW the comparison to the AMG will certainly be an interesting one, happy to share some thoughts once I've got some decent mileage under my belt in the Golf. I'm picking up a 2019 Mk 7.5, 35k miles (I'm assuming an ex lease car) in black, with wheels I don't like (cadiz) which I hope will grow on me. In terms of plans for it; Drive it for a couple of thousand miles and then re-read some of the great threads about the non performance mods and hidden features and pick a few bits to do. I've taken some inspiration from the custom steering wheel thread and the alloys thread as a starting point, but have also been eyeing up some Maxton bits which tickle my pickle, but in an OEM+ vibe as opposed to boy racer (I'm old). But ultimately I'm very excited to try a brand new platform, and then spending money on frivolous things I want but don't need. Currently trawling through the readers rides for more ideas to steal/inspiration! Thanks all for the welcome.

    Hello, new owner

Hello Crick 👋 I only regret selling two cars; My R53 Mini Cooper S and my orange GT86. I would have both back in a heart beat. The Mini was the first car I modded, but the desire for a JDM nugget was too much, so it had to go. At the time, my wife had a Mazda 2 (Sport, obviously) and I said in passing that we should get rid of that and keep the Mini, she said no, and not thinking I just went with it. I cried when my Mini drove off with the new owner 😂

    Hello, new owner

Hello, First time VW and Golf R owner here, picking up a mk 7.5 on Friday. Just wanted to say hello, and big thanks to all the members who have contributed to the forum, I've spent the last few days reading everything about the 7.5 R and it has helped me remain patient whilst waiting to pick my car up. Coming from an E63 AMG Bi-Turbo, so looking forward to slightly better running costs and far cheaper parts, whilst getting back in a turbo nutter hot hatch. Quick car history since passing at 17. 1991 Mini City E 998cc 1991 Mini Green 998cc 1989 Mini Rio 1275cc 2003 Vauxhal Corsa 1.2 1991 mk1 Mx5 1.6 2003 Ford Fiesta 1.3 (Florence my love, taken from 23k miles to 143k) 2001 Vaxuhall Omega 3.0 v6 2003 Vauxhall Vectra 2.5 v6 2004 Mini Cooper S (modded to 245bhp) Toyota Gt86 Orange Toyota Gt86 Grey Mercedes Benz E63 AMG (5.5 litre twin turbo - needed something sensible) And as of Friday, MK7.5 Golf R! Alongside those, I've also had an AC Cobra Replica for the last 10 years, and before that it was my dad's since 2005. Road trip to France booked in for late June with the Golf, so should be a good test for it, and booked into my local specialist for next week for a total top to bottom health check. Looking forward to hitting 25 posts so I can buy all your old mods! All the best, Titties
