  1. Right so I have owned the car for 3 whole weeks and 510 miles now so thought I would post some photos and let you all know of my findings and thoughts on the car so far! I will start with 3 weeks worth of photos and will follow up with an honest review later on, its kids bedtime prep in 10 mins so a quick start coming up on here haha 🤣 Collected from James at JCB Medway in Gillingham again, he sold me my 7.5R so when I went through DtD again I was pleased to here it would be him dealing with me again. Highly recommended Salesman. Here she is on collection day, unwashed and filthy but she still managed to show the potential to scrub up well. WARNING PIC HEAVY!!!!! Got her home and having been told by the detailers not to touch the car in terms of washing her I had to wait 8 days before she would go away on a spa break to be pampered. Couple of shots out and about town. Then I saw that my front doors had been fitted by Stevie Wonder...... Emailed James at Medway and he was very apologetic and was surprised this was missed on the PDI. He gave me the warranty details to use when going to my local dealer (Medway is a good 200 miles away), Inchcape Shrewsbury being one of my locals, Inchcape Telford are my actual local but after a disastrous (several) visits back in 2017, I have not graced their place since. In true Inchcape fashion, they palmed me off saying I had to go back to where I purchased it from, so i contacted James again and he told me quote the warranty info he sent me and that Shrewsbury were able to do it, contacted Shrewsbury again and after quoting the 6 months/6000 mile initial adjustment warranty details they booked me in for the 12th July...... Well see what happens when it goes in! Although the drivers door seems to have settled a little and doesn't look so bad. My only worry is that if it has dropped slightly in 3 weeks to look ok-ish now then how will it look in 6 months time. Only time will tell I guess. Anyway, the day after collecting her I had an Autowatch Ghost 2 fitted by Luke and the team at Car Theft Solutions from Sutton Coldfield, they came to the house and took around an hour to fit it. They went through a demo of the system with me, i let them just do it even though I had previous experience of Ghost 1 on my 7.5R. There are a couple of operating differences between ghost 1 and 2 but nothing much. The following week it went away to Staffordshire Car Care in Rugeley for a Gyeon MOH+ ceramic coating and PPF fit on the front bumper and bonnet. 2 days later I collected it and wow what a job they had done! I have had to leave it until 10 days after this treatment to do the first wash myself, this is to give the PPF time to settle down and de-bubble itself, plus harden the ceramic coating. Today was its first home wash. Process as follows, which was a bit of trial and error as I have not used Gyeon products before. Light spray of bug and grime - loads of bugs! PPF Wash via Lance Rinse Foam via Lance Used small brush to get in the nooks Cleaned Wheels (separate cloths and bucket) Rinse Bathe essence via hand with lambs wool mitt (2 buckets) Rinse Dry using Gyeon Silk Towels PPF maintain Tyre endurance (maguires) Cleaned chrome exhaust tips and waxed. Here are the results: (I will change a couple of things in the next wash - final rinsing differently - with just a pure water flow rinse and not under spray setting - Thanks for tip @Booth11🙂) Wheels will come off next time too I think. Thats it for a start. Next I will write a full review on what I think of it as a car with all its quirks and annoyances. Until then. Here she is.

  3. The New Mk8 Golf R rumours have started. Articles in AutoBild Magazine this month reveal that “Dieselgate” has indeed delayed the release of the new Golf R, with the MK 7.5 Facelift R filling the gap until the MK8 is unveiled, most likely at the Frankfurt IAA Show in September 2019. The R has always followed on a year later from the base models, so what can we expect to see in 2020? A slippery, lower, aero efficient front end apparently, together with smaller cooling grilles. Sharper taillights at the rear along with the badging in the centre of the tailgate. So pretty minor and run of the mill evolutions rather than revolution changes to the appearance. No mention of a hybrid boost unfortunately, although hope springs eternal as they say. The engine is likely to push out 350bhp, an uplift of around 40 horses from the current facelift variant, which can likely be achieved through more robust turbos running at higher boost. VWROC members simple Stage 1 remaps can already get close to that. The body of the car is likely to be up to 70kg lighter, although in R form the Haldex system will add to that somewhat. Still it’s a move in the right direction and could lead to an even better balanced chassis. Is this even possible, some might ask? The interior is where the tech has been updated, to Minority Report levels. The entire cockpit has been replaced by digital displays, a little bit like the current S-Class. We saw a flavour of this in the Worthersee Golf R special “Touch” edition in 2015. See video below: Better still it’s operated by gesture control, although in the UK I’m not sure it would recognise many of the gestures motorists currently use whilst driving! Augmented Reality Heads-Up-Displays will also feature with navigation arrows projected and mirrored onto the street ahead in 3D. In addition, there will be assistants that fully automate parking and keep track of speed and distance. Apparently the driver could be allowed to read newspapers or check emails while driving at speeds of up to 35mph. Drivers will login to the car and it will learn your preferences, habits and weaknesses (ours are craft beers and crisps). It’ll learn your favourite music and preferred temperature. It’s almost like an Amazon Alexa’s been lost down the back seat. As we all know though, the problem with tech in most mid-range cars is that its way out of date by the time the car reaches the consumer. All we really want is a great screen that’s capable of properly integrating apps from our phones seamlessly. Be warned though as by 2025 VW are planning to have a totally networked car that will drive pretty much by itself, and that ladies and gentlemen, marks the beginning of the end of the fun! The final blow coming in 2040 when petrol and diesel new cars sales will be banned. Our poor kids! Photos courtesy of Auto Bild online. Thanks!
