  1. Had my new Golf R for almost 2 weeks now, after a disastrous delivery and almost wanting to send the car back because the one they dropped off was missing the keyless and also had no reversing camera fitted which is now standard I believe, but I could not wait or be without a car so I accepted it. Since then I have been struggling to love it, I came from a Scirocco R so not much of a step up to be honest, in some ways it feels 'cheaper' A couple of questions I have is does the thing really require running in? I've put some CM wheels Pretorias on but at motorway speed and 80mph+ the vibration in the front seats is terrible like my wheels are not balanced even though they have been, how can I stop this ? Also I hate the soundaktor, but being a WLTP car it only pops on the overrun when in race mode on 'engine sound' selection, I have tried in individual to set it to eco but still be in race on the drive select but then it no longer pops on overrun, is this normal ?
  2. Has anyone had any experience with DRC wheels? I’ve got a 7.5 R DSG arriving on Tuesday. I wanted to get it with Pretorias but ultimately wasn’t able to so it’s got the Cadiz. Have been looking around for similar wheels to the Pretorias and have come across the DRCs (Deutsche Radar Co.), which look identical, but am not sure about their quality. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers.
  3. Hi guys and girls just thought I’d share a couple of Images of my Golf R and the progress. I’ve owned the car since jan 2018 and since then I’ve added a Maxton design rear spoiler, black wrapped the chrome grille and bumper inserts. Replaced the vw badges with black and white badges. Swapped the chrome mirror caps to black and changed from 18” candiz wheels to 19” Pretoria reps in gunmetal with Goodyear eagle F1 accemetric 3 tyres. Next plans include stage one apr map and dsg map. R600 intake and Emanuel emmotion lowering springs.
  4. Just picked up my 2014 MK7 R in Tornado Red. It’s a 5door DSG with Vienna Leather and sitting on VWR springs.
  5. Good evening all. I thought I'd introduce myself as a new Mk7 Golf R owner - i've been a member of the forum for a while but have only recently purchased my first R. The car is a 2015/65 R in Limestone Grey with Pretoria alloys and every other optional extra except Lane Assist. I've been hunting for an R for along time but I am very happy with the condition and spec of the one I have bought. I look forward to learning as much as I can about this beast from the forum! Cheers, Callam
  6. Finally, after 3 weeks from the time I placed my order at VW, I’ve had the 18 inch Sterling Silver Pretorias fitted with Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 rubber (225/40 R18 92Y XL). I’ve always been on the fence about the 18 inch Cadiz wheels whereby some days I’ll love them and the next I’ll dislike them - I don’t seem to be the only one that has this opinion either. However, I’ve always loved the Pretoria design and I am a fan of keeping my cars looking relatively OEM. After finding out that sourcing 19 inch Pretorias from VW would cost over £3000, I knew this was not going to be an option for me. However! When I was given the option from VW for 18 inch Pretorias priced at £1000, I was shocked because I had never come across an 18 inch version before. After doing some initial research, I didn’t find much at all other than getting some help from the lovely folk over on this thread (http://www.vwroc.com/forums/topic/19435-sourcing-pretoria-alloys/) Thanks guys! After biting the bullet and deciding to order them, here they are! (w/ some before shots too!) First impressions? Personally, I absolutely love them. The Sterling Silver colour is brighter compared to the 19 inch version and the size difference is pretty negligible, in my opinion. I’d love to see what other people’s thoughts are on the colour difference and size difference between the 18 and 19 inch versions. I’ve made this a separate thread to my initial post to help anybody that may be looking to purchase these in the future. If this has helped anyone in any way make a decision on whether they would like to purchase these or not, then I’m happy I have been able to help! Let us know if this has swayed you either way! I couldn’t be more over the moon with them and I think they have completely transformed the look of the car vs the Cadiz wheels. If anybody decides to grab themselves a set, I would love to see some pictures with them on different colours and ride heights! Oh and, any recommendations on wheel sealants?
  7. I'm just curious about the actual colour of the non-black Pretorias. My R isn't due for delivery until November, but I want to make sure I'm not missing something major here... When I ordered it, I went for the 'silver' Pretoria option. However, I was just messing around on the VW configurator (don't ask..) and the two options available there are black and 'grey'. Are 'silver' and 'grey' the same as far as factory-fitted Pretorias go? The car I test drove had Cadiz, so I haven't been able to see any in person. Thanks.
  8. A few weeks ago I hit a massive pothole. I gave the wheels a check, and everything looked OK and the car was driving fine. Today I was giving the car a thorough wash since hitting the pothole and I noticed when I was applying the tyre dressing that there was a bulge on the size of the tyre. On further investigation I could see the wheel was buckled. Nightmare situation 😢 As i'm in N.Ireland, you have to claim off the Department for Infrastructure (DFI) and as they want photographic evidence, the hole in question is now repaired. I'm considering claiming off my insurance as the cost will probably be close to a grand if I factor in two new replacement tyres and an alignment check. The prets are black too and as the car is only 10 months old VW is my only option. Any thoughts and comments welcome. Do you think the tyre is safe for driving?
  9. Evening everyone! So today I took my pride and joy out in the snow, I wasted no time doing so, my neighbor's all thought i was mad, but I had a strong believing my motor would be fine. The following YouTube link is a short clip of me having some fun in my manual R I'd love to see more videos like mine if anyone else has some!
  10. My pretoria alloys are due to be refurbished next week. I'm stuck between satin black or gloss black on my Deep Black Pearlescent R. Any pics are most welcome. Thanks in advance
  11. I've just had my Pretorias fully refurbished. As I had discovered after taking delivery of my car that 3 of the 4 wheels were buckled, the (non franchised) dealer said they would happily pay for them to be professionally straightened. Luckily there is a wheel refurbisher relatively close to me with a stellar reputation, so I took them along. I stumped up for the cosmetic stuff (these wheels had clearly not been cosseted) and now have spanking clean wheels. Is there a consensus regarding wheel sealant? What do you use? Pros and cons? I generally clean with wheel woolies, and soapy water.
  12. I'm about to get a Golf R so one of the questions is should I get the Pretoria wheels? I love their looks but if I'll drop in a BBK and I'll end up replacing them with ultraleggeras or something aftermarket it doesn't makes sense to spend the extra money twice. Spacers I will not run. So it all boils down to: - Alcons - VWR - any other respectable bbk bbks fitment behind them without spacers.
  13. Hi All, Currently waiting delivery of my new Lapiz Blue and I'm at that stage of trying to plan a few (lots of) minor tweaks i'd like to make when the time comes... One of the items I'm considering adding to the list is swapping out the wheel bolts, potentially with a colour to match the Lapiz... (feel free to let me know your thoughts on this) I've seen the below example and i'm pretty taken with the idea, although it will be on a set of prets which i'll be sticking with at least for the timebeing... http://i1197.photobucket.com/albums/aa431/SneakyDeeky/Forgestar%20Red%20Center%20Caps/IMG_20150827_161050_zps8rofupzf.jpg Does anyone know where I could source similar coloured bolts, and whether these are available with a locking nut/ key? Obviously don't want to fire on some shiney new bolts to find my car on bricks the next morning... Any advice/ thoughts/ queries to help pass the time before the due date would be much appreciated. Cheers again, MP
