  1. Evening folks, Just home from picking up the new car, looking forward to learning some tips from you guys n girls. Going great so far! Coming from an Bmw M240 is was worried it wouldnt quite 'be enough' but its a totally different beast. The way it corners and launches.... makes me smile from ear to ear. Couple of pics while clean!
  2. Evening Folks hope your all doing okay. Decided to remove the JB1 from R and try a Revo Stage 1 remap. Car is standard except a drop in filter, turbo elbow and pipe (snow grate removed). Still running a pedal box too. The remap pulls harder through the rev range and there is more power at the top end than the jb1 gave. Its drives like factory but with a load more power. Is it worth 3 times the price of a used jb1.....quick answer for me is mmm yes. But different horses for different courses. It also came down the the garage doing the work - very experienced mech / race car builder tuner. And local too! Got me involved and made me feel right at home, so worth every penny. Discount on future work tops it off. I did consider the dsg remap but feel its not need with the 7 speed dsg box, especially as I always drive in 'manual' . No issues so far. If any slippage occurs ill get Tvs to up the clamping pressure. The in dash power gauge has been recalibrated and reads 287kw /385 bhp. Not sure how accurate that is.... I would estimate torque at 500ish. It really does pull hard in gear now.
  3. Hi All, New around here, recently picked up my 2014 Golf R 5dr DSG. The drive select mode button flashes when pressed but doesn’t bring up anything on any of the screens? I have tried disconnecting the battery for over an hour and resetting the head unit by holding power for 15 seconds, also reset the factory settings on head unit with no luck. Does anyone have any ideas? Or any idea how much they’d charge me at a main dealer to look? Thanks, Joe
  4. Hey folks, Found these on ebay: https://ebay.us/EsBAXU What do you think? Bought a pair to see what they are like. Good price i think. The carbon fibre is overlayed to an OEM mirror. Will let you know my final thoughts when they arrive.
  5. Evening folks, 2019 Golf R 7.5 opf Got the jb1 installed this afternoon. Once car was jacked and undertray removed all fitted in 10 mins with the only fiddly bit being the cam sensor (i think) total swine to get to. Car started first time with no error codes thrown. Idles same as std and all sounded good. Went for first little drive - about 5 miles and felt a bit underwhelmed. Got out switched off car for minute or so while went to shop. Got back it and drove 30 through town to the bypass. WOT on slip ramp in second and boom! No not the turbo going!! A good lump of extra torques was felt as car pulled hard through gears to about fast ish. Top end of rev range is much improved too. I feel the car now has the mid range punch it was badly missing. Tried a launch and could feel the car pulling power. Maybe a dsg tune would help with that.... more testing required my end. When manually launching the car the first gear pull is grin worthy!. The R will be getting fully stage 2 mapped eventually but for £145 for the jb1 im very impressed.
  6. Owner of a 7.5R, Auto When i turn the car off, when the key is taken out of the ignition I get an 'Error Esc' message with the esc sign of the car with the skid marks. Does anyone know what causes this and if it means there is an actual problem with my Esc? It has done it about 2 or 3 times in the last month, I have not had any issues with traction or anything, but today it was slightly wet and when giving the car some power the front wheels really started to struggle for traction a bit higher up the rev range and the Esc light would flash. Could this be an issue with my haldex system? car is a 2017, 7.5R with 16000 miles, due to have first haldex service in june (3 year point) Any replies greatly appreciated.
  7. New to the forum and Golf R ownership ( have to say I wish i`d brought one years ago ) and I`ve just had the OEM rear badge camera installed as was not installed from new. Factory spec had park pilot. No issues with the reverse camera and seems to be the high line version so very happy with that however when using for the front it just disables video rather then use the park pilot option. I still get audible prompt and a smaller version of the car but missing the guidelines. Is it possible to have both or have I had a wrong rear camera version installed ? Appreciate any advise - obviously a minor gripe with it being front but haven`t spent a fair amount to get installed I like to get fixed if possible.
  8. Morning everyone, Has anyone else had any luck getting any information from Akrapovic regarding ordering the exhaust as an aftermarket option? I have finally received a response from them saying the downpipe will be available to order in a couple of weeks time. I am more interested in the full system though!
  9. Just picked up my 2014 MK7 R in Tornado Red. It’s a 5door DSG with Vienna Leather and sitting on VWR springs.
  10. Ordered some Team heko wind deflectors for my 7.5 R, but they aren’t very dark/black would I be an idiot for spraying them gloss black to match the rest of the trim? Has anyone done this before? 🤔 Thanks
  11. Good evening all. I thought I'd introduce myself as a new Mk7 Golf R owner - i've been a member of the forum for a while but have only recently purchased my first R. The car is a 2015/65 R in Limestone Grey with Pretoria alloys and every other optional extra except Lane Assist. I've been hunting for an R for along time but I am very happy with the condition and spec of the one I have bought. I look forward to learning as much as I can about this beast from the forum! Cheers, Callam
  12. Placed an order 3 days before VW announced the changes to the R due to emissions, Iv been told it will only have 300 bhp instead of the 310 I ordered as well as a more restrictive exhaust due to a GPF filter been fitted, how could this effect my vehicle? Will it change the sound of the exhaust etc? I’m not at all happy and have been in touch with VW but there’s nothing they can do apparently.

  14. I currently have a 2015 Manual R which I've had a year now and have thoroughly enjoyed it but im looking to trade in for a DSG at some point between now and January (im not in a rush) hopefully if the price drops a 7.5 R. I have come across some 2015/6 A45's, has anyone had any experience in one and can shed some light on what its like vs the R. I will of course test drive but Its always hard to tell the true nature of the car unless they let you go out on your own which the VW sales man let me in my current R.

  16. Hi folks, Has anyone replaced their air filter to K&N one and if so is there much difference? Is it worth buying one? Thanks
  17. Hi all, New 7.5 R wagon/estate/variant owner from Sydney, Australia here! Picked up my Lapiz Blue 7.5 R Wolfsburg wagon around 2 months ago as I need a bigger family car than my previous Audi S3 sedan. Previous to the S3 I had a MK6 R. Looking forward to learning heaps from you guys and also contributing. Here is a pic of the car after tint and ceramic pro being applied!
  18. Hi All, Im really hoping someone can help. Yesterday i bought a 2010 VW GOLF R MK 6 AUTO DSG. When going for a test drive and inspecting the car it all seemed fine. My first issue came when i dropped my friend off that came with me. As i was leaving his driveway, i went to put it in reverse and at that point it gave me an error with an exclamation mark saying gearbox was overheated. I turned the car off and then started it again and seemed fine. I reversed out and went home. At some stage i got a solid engine light appear on my dash. Today, i dropped my mum off somewhere and when putting it in reverse, it wouldnt select the gear and let me reverse, nor would it let me select drive either. I restarted the car and that seemed to then let me reverse and select my gears. At this point the engine light was still showing. I took the car to my mechanic to do a check of the car as i just got it and to show this issue i was having. As i was driving to my mechanic, about 15 hours after the initial light appeared, the light went away by itself. He ran the OBD scans throughout the whole car and only found one code - "P2711 - Unexpected / Implausible Mechanical Gear Disengagement", which was cleared because he checked the DSG and it seemed fine as the drive is smooth and the oil was good. We also discovered it could be from aggressive driving which i dont believe i was doing as i have been taking it easy. When i got home, i went to the gym awhile later, as i was trying to reverse out of my driveway, the same issue occurred where it wouldnt select reverse or any other gear so i had to restart the car to get it to select reverse and the light is appearing again. Im really not sure what is happening at this point and starting to think this may be a gearbox issue after all. Is anyone able to shed some light on this? Kindest Regards, Liborio - Sydney

Hi, Looking at potentially getting into an RS3 and toying with the idea of selling my Golf. The car is a 2015 plate with 16k miles. It does not have any optional extras other than factory equipment. I have just replaced the two front tyres with Goodyear Eagle F1s, waiting to get stock for the rear. Was serviced when I bought it around 6 months ago and service book stamped. Car is completely stock, unmodified and hasn't been remapped (no JB1 or JB4 or DTUK). £20,000 open to offers although I challenge you to find one with similar miles and DSG for the price. Edit: OFFERS OVER £18,750 CONSIDERED (TRADE IN PRICE - GOING TO TRADE END OF WEEK)

    £18,750.00

  24. Hi Guys, I know this is a heavily debated topic, but I am thinking of upgrading my brake pads from the stocks... From what I have seen the two options I am deciding between are the Ferodo DS2500 and the EBC Yellow stuff? Has anyone tried both these pads and could offer any advice? Any other options people could recommend? Cheers! (I am running drilled discs by the way, so aggressive pads should not be a problem)
  25. Well have collected the beast today, what an absolutely AWSOME car. My drive back should have taken 3 1/2hrs and 200 miles, unfortunately it took five hour. Nothing to do with traffic as such, just that I decided to take to the 'A' and 'B' roads, found the motorway and Dual carriageway driving booooooooooring.☹️💤 Vehicle was an absolute dream and stuck to the road in bends like S*** to a blanket. Passing vehicles was certainly not an issue, the only issue I had was with the speed limits, would have been back well before the five hours if there were None! And we would not have to contend with the wonderful speed cameras. The previous car a BMW X1, is just a distant dream already, can not wait to get the R back out on the road. Have to find an excuse for the wife to pop out tonight may be. One very very happy Old Boy Racer!
