What detailing have you done today?

Gave it a clean today. First time using a DA machine and it went well.

Following the guide produced by Rebecca and viewing a few YouTube videos I finally decided to take the plunge.

Did the usual snow foam wash and then 2 bucket with DoDo juice born to be mild shampoo. After that a blast with Korrosol and another wash. Checked paint feel and masked everything off.

I started with Rupes Extra fine pad and Scholl Concepts S40. Not enough improvement with that so I changed to a Lake Country orange foam pad and Mizerna One-Step polish as it does cut, gloss and wax as the name says.

I was impressed with this as after it had removed all the blemishes to the standard I required it also left a wax that was easy to remove even if I left it for quite while.

the paint colour has improved considerably as I didn't realise how much bloom it had together with the swirls that were obvious.

While  I still have to work on the window cleaning - probably Fast Glass tomorrow - here are some pictures.

Great job Nigel, the car looks absolutely stunning.  Definitely see the clarity of the paint post polish.  It’s amazing what a DA polish can do and as you say, makes you realise how needed it is.  You’ll find the car very easy to wash afterwards too as the paintwork is so smooth.  Fab work!

PS taken the liberty of shifting the post into the Detailing Section.

Lovely but my OCD would be worried with the close parking to the kerb resulting in scuffed alloys...😱

I am very, very careful about that. Also the kerb is very low at that point which is why  park it there.  So far so good!!

The drop reversing mirror is also a good aid/guide for me and so far I have not had to invoke the Alloy Wheel Insurance.

I use the auto-P for parallel parking sometime

it keeps your wheels 8-10 inches from the curb

actually does a great job

Less so when parking between cars (like in a lot)

there it tends to get too close on the passenger side

If I parked mine 8 to 10 inches from the kerb then my partner would ask if she is expected to walk to the pavement!! When I spend time getting it close she sometimes says 'are we nearly there yet'. Sometimes you just can't win.  Looks like you have a parking feature on the MK8 that the 7.5 doesn't have.

Sounds like @AHG has Park Assist on his 8R (is an option on the UK version).

I thought it was standard on all cars

didn’t pay for it so it must be EU std

Our ‘19 Tiguan has it as well

(plus 360 cameras, which are awesome)

Not the best in parking lots

but it is really cool in parallel

Not standard on UK cars, but it’s a relatively cheap option (£205).

I wouldn’t pat for it

but it is a treat 🙂

It’s not something I’ve ever been tempted by.   That said I probably would have said that about a heated steering wheel but having one as standard I know know I never want to be without one again.  😄
