ColinC2's Reflex Silver Golf R

Recommended Posts

Jeez!  Make one off the cuff ageist comment (which I'm allowed because I'm old  - 50 next birthday) and the Silver Fox Club are up in arms.

On a seperate note, the landmark birthday has it's uses. It's a way off yet but just persusded HWMBO that a great 50th present is a new full frame Canon DSLR - the next incarnation of the EOS 5D III (Mk IV ot 5DX) which is due to be released later this year, plus of course a couple of juicy lenses to go with it.  :afro:

Sorry, back to topic...

Wow!  No asking for much then?

Mine is next week, and I'll be happy with a seafood supper, some plain Boss V t shirts, a new torque wrench, and a day off to detail alone undisturbed.

So... DDay Minus One. Car was detailed yesterday so a massive thanks to Jake @FCD ( http://www.firstchoicedetailing.co.uk/services/ ) I am really pleased with the results. Took a few pictures but the

Today is D-day (Delivery Day)  minus 10... And saw the car for the first time. In the pouring rain (hence poor quality photos). Before PDI (hence the ride height). Looks gorgeous anyway.....   Manag

Big detail before #inters (see Detailing section) then after 300 odd mile round trip and lots of rain a quick wash then a once over with Swissvax Lotospeed ...

No, I'm easily pleased.

I will be selling or trading-in my current Canon 7D body (keeping all lenses) to off-set some of the vast cost.

Well may I wish you pre very happy birthday!

I hope you get your modest wishes, but you should push for 2 detail days, especially if you've got that DA polish planned.

Better give Colin his thread back now.  :embarrassed:

Yeah thanks ... thought this was another Booth11/Mainframe love in !!

But before we get back to beautiful Silver let me know what you might want for the 7d ? Assume it is on a par with your car for condition ? What's the shot count ? Bear in mind I am saving like crazy for my winter project ....

What you talking about I can't stand Mainframe.  He hates wax, ergo, I hate him.      (not really)

Anyway Colin - cameras!  Nice try appealing to my caring nature with your strapped for cash - winter project sob story.   You'll have to do better than that!

Sadly my 7D, though it was in as good a condition as my car BUT is currently in need of camera ICU since I reversed my car into the tripod it was attached to during one of the many R photo sessions, oops!  :embarrassed:  So it has a focussing problem that needs rectifying.  I shall be taking it to a Canon specialist to be repaired (depending on the cost).  I am of course, looking to have it back to its best - repaired, serviced and fully operational prior to selling.  If that hasn't put you off, I will check the shot count and get back to you.  Regarding the price, once I have looked at what other similar used ones are going for, I will have a better idea.

Nearly back to your beautiful Silver...

Youve not not been so lucky with yer chattels and damage of late Becs.  Camera, car, tripod!  Yikes.  Could have been worse I guess.

time for a run of luck...

No, it's not been the best time for all my favourite (non human/feline) prized possessions Gary.   But reversing into the tripod and camera was all my own stupid fault!  Car and tripod were unscathed and no external damage to camera but noticed it wasn't producing perfectly in focus pics - thought it might be the lens but have tested it with all lenses and same result.  I'm sure it's repairable though.  And still have my trusty CSC Canon EOS M which is great unless the light is low, in which case it endlessly hunts for focus!!!  Strictly a daytime/good light camera only.

But every cloud..........bring on the full frame. :afro:

I know I'm really allowed on this forum seeing as im from the dark side but I wanted to add my 2 penneth in here. Reflex silver looks great on all of the hot (and warm in my case) Golfs.

I've just bought this and the reflex silver is my tenuous link to this thread.

I love that you don't see many silver cars at present as white seems to be the must have colour of the moment.

Anyway, I go back to lurking at looking at all of the pretty pictures!

  • 1 year later...

An update after what seems like a real long time ... all my pictures have disappeared from the thread once Dropbox (spits on the floor) changed their policy - I then removed all my photos and my account in disgust. At least I had all the pictures stored on One Drive and that works for sites where can't host the pictures ..

So attached a picture that didn't make the 2017 Calendar ...

I still have my Golf R and its just clicked over 9k miles! Other car projects (a MINI GP1 and now a MINI GP2) have meant that its been relegated to a daily driver , albeit a very capable one. But perhaps maybe a rather too expensive one 🤔

So I have been considering my options and reckon that at some point in the new year I will be selling the Golf R and getting a new (leased probably) daily driver. If, and its a big if, I can get anywhere near what I think the car is worth! Or maybe even if I can't ...

    • By Hi Ho Silver
      Hi folks,

Proud new owner of a mint, low-mileage R over in Northern Ireland. Got it for a steal and best car I've owned by a country mile.

Idea of Spec: Reflex Silver, manual, all-black interior (headliner, piano black dash), black cloth seats with grey alcantara, gloss black calipers & panoramic sunroof. Love the black and silver😀

Looking forward to a bit of chat and seeing a few other cars!

Right then. 2 Weeks after picking it up I'm ready to give the new Golf a thourough detail.
No editing or arty pics here I'm afraid, just an old point and shoot camera!

      Here it is:

      First job, wheels.

Generally mucky, Golf R front brakes are VERY dusty!

Wheels were jetwashed, soaked in 1:10 solution of AF Imperial, and agitated with a range of brushes. Despite the wheels being off the car, the EZ brush was necessary to reach the groove that sits behind the spokes.

      Rinsed off

      Doused in CarPro Iron-X
