Avoid Inchcape altogether. Recent had a run in with Shrewsbury VW and Audi.

About 6 months ago, saw a deal on their website for a Golf R... Had a test drive, got back, coffee in hand... "Sorry sir, the deal for a new Golf R doesn't exist. Have a an older one for more money." WTF!???

Ridgeway Oxford are excellent, especially the tech department, and they seem to hire their female staff in a similar manner to Ali G's immigration policy

Thanks, I've been a "stalker" over the past few months to be able to ensure I chose the right car as I had initially narrowed my search down to 3 different marquees (BMW m140, Audi S3 and the R). Onc

I tried tidying this up a little....   There were some posts I didnt log as there were more chat than an out and out recommed or avoid.   Might be worth putting this in the first p

How about the deal below.

You cannot believe how excited I was. Never seen a deal like this for an RS6.... "APOLOGIES SIR, THAT DEAL IS WRONG... WOULD YOU STILL LIKE A TEST DRIVE?"

🤣🤣🤣

Definitely a good idea, nothing like ending up at a shoddy dealer with something wrong and not getting what you want or taken for a ride.

Here is my input:

Recommend

VW Hedge End, Southampton - When originally buy my Golf R Estate, they didn't have any at the showroom, only had the hatch, which i took out for quite a nice test drive, on my own so was able to explore the limits of the car, and upon returning the guy had phoned another showroom and they were bringing the Golf R Estate up for me to also have a test drive in. Waited there for around 20 minutes and then a blue Golf R Estate rolled up and was allowed to take that out and test that. Subsequently bought the one i have and was extremely impressed that the sales guy went the extra mile. Have also had all my services done there as well as a couple of warranty jobs that were completed quickly and efficiently. So would definitely recommend the guys at VW Hedge End

AVOID

VW Portsmouth - Absolute shambles of a dealer, when i originally approached them to test drive a used GTI Hatch, i was told i needed to put down a deposit of 10% before i took the car for a test drive. Now we all know that's complete b*****ks, so i told the guy i was here to test drive the car, if i want to buy the car after the test drive i would then put down a deposit. But he was adamant that this is the way their dealership works. To which my reply was to turn round and walk away. Later on down the line when i had bought my Golf R Estate, i wanted a boot liner for it. I ordered it over the phone from VW and they delivered it to VW Portsmouth as Southampton wasn't open because of a refit, so went down to collect it, cash in hand ready to pay my bill and was told they don't accept cash only card!! I mean come on, what dealership doesn't accept cash for things. So again i told them where to go, got back on the phone to VW who sent it by courier to my home and they even said they would be happy to take cash on the doorstep if i wanted to pay that way, i didn't, i paid over the phone but still has left a very sour taste in my mouth about that dealer and will only be using if every other dealership in the uk is shut!!!!

Bought MK7.5R:

Avoid VW Stafford - wouldn't budge on MK7 price even though I pointed out problems + wouldn't replace brake discs or tyres or other worn parts even if I paid full price. Then they had the nerve to say they are increasing the price above the already listed price😂. Thank God I went to VW Ipswich and bought MK7.5R Lapiz blue. Always a good idea to wait for the spec + colour you want and don't rush/don't get rushed into buying. Customer service/sales rep came across as arrogant and probably assumed I couldn't afford the car due to my age lol.

Highly Recommend VW Ipswich: bought MK7.5R Lapiz Blue - pointed out brake pads were worn but they initially refused to replace. Paid full listing price as they didn't budge but they refurbished the 2 kerbed alloys + 2 new rear michelin tyres + haldex service + dsg service. And before collecting the car, in the end they also replaced the brake pads and brake discs + new back box (that had to be replaced anyways). Was an ideal purchase as I didn't want to have to buy a MK7.5R which needed immediate haldex or dsg service. Customer service at VW Ipswich always very helpful too - If i lived near them I'd go there for servicing👍👍

Always amazes me how some salespeople look down on you because they are in their shiny suit and you’re in scruffy jeans and an old rugby shirt.

Walked out of my local VW dealer when I wanted to look at and test drive the 7.5, and went to another and bought one. Same with BMW a few years ago, dropped in to have a look on a Saturday morning, pretty scruffy and sales guy was so condescending, guess because I was scruffy he thought I couldn’t afford the car.
I just flown back from a business trip in Dubai and Kuwait with Emirates in First Class and was looking to spend my annual bonus that had just landed from work in my account, which was a very good year and enough to buy the car after deductions.

Never judge a book by the cover.

Couldn't fault Stephen at Motorline Volkswagen in Horsham, I randomly turned up on a Saturday to take a nose around as I was thinking about swapping out my old car.

after a quick chat about the 2 he had in stock he was super upfront and honest about them both going so far as to point out some marks on both that i'd not spotted.

Then pretty much handed me the keys (not sure if just because of C19) and gave us a suggestion of a good route of a mix road types.. even pointed out the speed camera down the road ;) and said have fun.

after the deal was done and I picked up the car he even went as far as to post out the little USB to USB type C cable for my wifes phone as shes got a Oneplus and i have a iphone as he couldnt find any on the day.

I used to use Vertu (Whitchurch) - (used to be South Hereford Garages) on the A40 Monmouth-Ross on Wye road. Sadly now closed (mid April)  with only the Hereford Branch an option now,   But i have found a local Vw specialist to service my car.
