Rear tints

To be honest I've not really considered how good the back window looks, I've taken a picture but the cars been left in a hotel underground car park for a couple of days so is a bit dusty plus there's a lot of reflection.
As for cleaning, I treat the rear windows the same as the fronts, Autoglym window cleaning spray, not noticed any difference between the two regarding finish.

To me, that's looks sweet! If you don't mind sharing, how much roughly was it for the tint?
Hopefully will be able to get it down here in Cornwall

I have 90% tints on my new Estate 7.5R. Had to be retrofitted as bizarrely not an option on the estate by specialist ADS in Plymouth and match the tinting in the pano roof. Fully recommended and cost just shy of £200.  They are for me though primarily for privacy/security over blocking sunlight.

I would recommend you do get a sunblind for your new baby in mind. Tints obviously help block the sun, but it still gets through and will potentially disturb their sleep. I speak from experience with a 5 and 9 year old having grown up with our A4 avant which had factory tints and a sun blind fitted.

The R does not have any sunblind and complaints have come in from the little ones!

From memory the cost was around £175 give or take a couple of quid.

I actually used ADS Plymouth for my C30! You based around the city or surroundings? I will have to pop back in for that - just hoping it doesn't come out terrible with the heater elements... as I mentioned before to the OP. Adding 90% tint to the already 65% windows sounds fun

Will have to keep an eye out for your R, looks great!

Did they retro fit full tinted glass or a tinted film? My vw dealer says they cant do the full tinted glass (or they can but the cost would be huge) so have recommended doing it through a company they use. It will be film though.

You also make a food point ... If I have the standard windows which seem to be 65% and I want 90% ... How does that work haha? I need an extra 25% film?!

Aftermarket window tint film will never look as good as factory tinted glass.

This is film:

With factory tinted glass, you don't get any of the lines or heating elements, it's all just black.

You won't need sun blinds with tints, they diffuse a lot of light and make the rear of the car much darker. I haven't got any photos of my car with 90% tints but you cannot see in the back unless you are right up close to the glass. I much prefer cars with tints :)

You're bang on mate. Totally agree. Film is a cheaper option, but replacing the glass is mega bucks from what I'm told. It's pretty much the only option I wanted that wasn't on my car.

I live and work in the central Plymouth so you may see the blue beast around!

Ask for Gary Chapman who is the owner of ADS and say James with the new Golf R recommended them.  You should get a decent price.  VW Murrays actually send all their cars there.

Don't worry about the heater elements as you can not see them from the outside if you go for the 90%.  Of course you are only getting an extra 25% to add to the 65% so don't get carried away!  They will though match the tint to whatever % you want - all done in their new dust free unit in Stonehouse.

Good luck!

Tinted film, but like most things in life it is worth paying a little extra for a reputable firm like ADS to do it then some of the cowboys.  VW Murrays send all their cars there in any event.

They use special measuring tools to work out how much tint you currently have on the vehicle and then make suggestions to what % to go for.  I had an extra 25% (on top of the standard 65%) so it matched in with the panoramic roof tint.

My daughter has yet to ask for any sunglasses when sat in the back and works security always ask me to wind the window down to check nobody in the back. So either they are very good at both heat and light reduction or my works security have bad eyesight.

Out of interest, does anyone know the % tintwas  on the  pre FL GR7s from factory, and also what is the std FL GR7 tint % from  factory without 90% option fitted?

Thnx

This is correct. 65% as standard on both the 7R and 7.5R vehicles.

Ooohh.  Then maybe stock FL 7 is good enough and the 90% may be too much in the class A stakes? 😇

Mind you, for £95.....

I always buy my cars with factory tinted glass mainly as I need it to hide my work equipment in the back. There's other benefits such as headlights aren't as bright at night time, the sun isn't as bright during the day and it stops people behind in traffic or walking down the road being able to see into the back of the car.

The only downside is seeing out the back at night time to park can be a bit sketchy!
