Good luck on the prices coming down! They’re not moving much on the older M2s but I think some BMW dealerships are being arrogant over prices.

Early M2’s now commanding £32k >

Comp M2 £51k >

I won’t consider new but maybe a 12 to 18 month old M2 or RS3

but then again the MK8R will be out!

This one caught my eye recently.
Note the adaptive suspension.
I think the M2 comp is just too aggressive looking..attract unwanted attention?
The M240i is understated by comparison and has many of the attributes of its big brother

One thing with the first gen M2 is the poor suspension. The 240 is almost as quick as the M2, cheaper to buy and probably a better everyday car - plus Motech do some good aftermarket stuff for them.

I’ve had my eye on them and seen one or two around that money but I’ve been watching a few and the prices on those haven’t dropped in months. I think the dealerships are being a little unrealistic!

I’ve seen a few M240 M Performance limited edition models but none have the adaptive suspension.

Shame.

Another shame is the 'optional' M Diff is never ordered by dealerships for demo cars and many are never ordered by customers hence lack of used M135/ 140 / 240's seen with these.

I'd be straight up to Birds and get the Quaiffe diff and their Bilstein suspension.

So what would you go for a new/nearly new M240 or a second hand M2 around equal price (£30-32k)to the M240?

If going M240 what are the absolute must haves, see you mention diff etc

I assume any M2 or is there some must have options on these too?

If I was looking at a lardy  335d, I assume adjustable suspension is the must have, if it’s an option?

Just curious as I’m not fully up to speed on BMW must haves or really need etc

£32k will put you in a new M240i at the right dealer.

Adaptive

HK

Pro Nav

M-Sport brakes

Lumbar

Wouldn’t not have those.

After that then I’d look at the new B12 dampers not Birds.

The BMW diff not the quaife- better residuals designed to works with the built in system and warranty friendly for the same money.

Rest is personal preference.

Much better asking in BabyBMW.net - here you go for a start.

I'd choose very similar spec to the ^

Re diff and dampers. I agree it's nice if you're extremely lucky to find a) M Diff and b) Adaptive Dampers. If not then ordering it on a new vehicle is the only way forward. Ordering either a new M140 /M240 is out of the question for me as with all the above options the losses due to poor residuals puts me off looking at the current market on 135/*40 owners.....similar to first Gen R's mostly leased that plunged in the first 2-3 years.

I'd save a packet and try and find a 6-12 month old M240 with some M carbon bits and then add in diff.

M2 Comp would be nice but it's in another price league....M4 better value but not as rare.

FL RS3 still interests me but in this winter climate I still love my stage 2 R and its traction.....I definitely think 430-450lbs still needs 4WD for progress on wet UK roads.
