Superchips Remap Golf R 7.5

Recommended Posts

Their maps on previous platforms were poor - basically turning everything up to 11.

They are by no means a specialist tuner, as they tune EVERY vehicle, so the level of development & testing will be lacking compared to the likes of Revo, APR etc, and a far cry from a custom map (MRC etc).

personally, I'd avoid. . .

That’s good news. They must have changed the ecu’s for the 7.5’s. As far as the bluefin device goes I had no dramas with it on my GTI. Felt great with heaps of extra power.

Thanks Ozzy, I used one of their remaps on a Golf GTI Ed 30 in about 2006, they used my car to develop the map for a few day. They improved the Bhp from 265 to about 306bhp and masses to torque and so I was very impressed. Thanks for your help.

On that particular car, they asked for 110% duty from the turbo, which the fuelling system couldn't cope with.

Have a read of this: http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=65077.0

Hi Gray, thanks for your input, replied to Ozzy in earlier thread, I have used them before and was very pleased. I have heard of the other tuners but have had no experience with them so it's always great to get feedback from others. Thanks again.

Hi I had a bluefin remap on my mk7 golf r manual 64 plate and it was pretty good plus you can reset to stock at anytime from the comfort of your home. It’s true they map lots of cars I’m gonna try the map on my new 7.5 r dsg as it’s a freebie cos I already have it however if I was starting from scratch I would probably go revo or apr I will try the bluefin on the car first and see how I get on.

I had bluefin on my corsa (1.6t) - I had the sri not the vxr (but same engine) so went up from 150 bhp to 222 bhp (vxr was 189 I think up to 222) (rolling roaded at Regal Autosport) - my gearbox went pop and I believe it was partly the map and partly a crap gearbox (dreaded m32).

Didn't have any issues with the map in terms of warnings, limp home modes etc - the reason I think it didn't help the gearbox was that the tourque came in lower than most other maps for the corsa vxr / sri - therefore I was using more tourque more of the time, wearing out gearbox.

Its the only car I have remapped - put me off a bit, but still I then spent more money and got updated clutch etc, which to be fair was a waste of time and still pissed with Regal for suggesting it.

looking at the power and torque curves as below

http://www.superchips.co.uk/curves/Golf75R310PSDSG.pdf

I would say the map looks rubbish to be honest, they are claiming the standard car is producing 328bhp (unlikely) and that their uprated power is 355 so only a difference of 27bhp on an optimistic dyno so possibly only 23bhp on a more accurate dyno

the torque increase is 50lb ft and only lasts for a 1000rpm before dropping off to no more that about 35lb ft for the rest of the time and again that's on an optimistic dyno

compare that to any unicorn or apr, etc map and there is no contest

Agree with comments on Bluefin - keep away tbh. Their maps are set to shove you in the back when you put your foot down but start looking deeper into them soon finds them out.

Have had them on a handful of cars over the years (non-VW) and when I started taking logs of what was actually going on I wasn't impressed. AFR's all over the place, boost spikes etc. Once things start to go a bit wiry they didn't really know how to answer questions either tbh. Apart from "We've sold loads of these with no other complaints etc"

All the cars 'felt' better when put back to stock.

The opinion seems to be, that the latest series of maps from Superchips are flawed! This is very surprising as I have had 2 vehicles that were remapped via Bluefin and this was a MkV Golf GTi Ed30 (230bhp to 306bhp) and a 2010 Audi S3  (265-310) and these were both new cars and at the time and I was impressed with both maps on both cars and had no issues at all. I wonder what has gone wrong?
