So took it in yesterday and was just explaining to the receptionist what the problem was as we were sorting out my courtesy car, she said one of the technicians will try and replicate it and see if it’s a normal characteristic of the car....sowing the seeds in case they obviously could not sort it, had a bit of strop and the technician came out and I drove over several of the speed bumps in the service centre car park, the guy was dead on, he had a golf r and had the same thing, pretty much knew what the issue was likely to be, picked up a few hours later, creaking gone, so am happy emoji2.png

Hi @ringy

Without giving away too much personal information, I'd be interested in knowing the town of the dealership where you took it to.  I'm in Cardiff but tend to travel with work, so looking for a dealer who knows how to correct this issue rather than being fobbed off with "couldn't replicate the issue".

It's definitely a squeak I have, rather than a creak, and it tends to happen at low speeds - not even necessarily with speed bumps (but worse when going over them).

Trouble is, it doesn't happen all the time.  The only time I've consistently noticed it is when driving for an hour, parking up, and then returning to the vehicle.  So I would say when the vehicle is warm.

Thanks in anticipation.

No replies to this, but going to try a dealership tomorrow and see what they say.  It doesn't happen all the time (hasn't happened in a week or so), but its been happening all the time today.

Just back from the dealership - "removed and refitted both front shock absorber gaiters as found slightly tight in mounts".

I think I could hear the noise driving back - but might be my imagination at this point.

I'll give it a week and see.

Had asked them to swap front & back wheels for tyre rotation whilst they had it but mysteriously when I picked it up (at 2pm) they had "run out of time" and "will do it at the next service in 6 months time" which is of no use to me.

Also when I phoned them to ask about progress, they said "ah yes, it's the Golf R-line, isn't it".  Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!

I’ve just had this problem fixed. I was convinced the sound was coming from the rear, but after a week of inactivity from the dealer and a lot of ‘discussion’ ie I refused to take the car back until they’d done something to it, they discovered a tech bulletin about the (?) height levellers at the front (having a blonde moment and can’t remember the name). Greased them and the noise has gone.

Thanks for the info.  I'll certainly go back in a week with that info (maybe to a different dealer) if it turns out it's not fixed.
