Wagon R Posted Monday at 16:23 Report Share Posted Monday at 16:23 After running the wagon on the stock map for around 3 weeks since a major service, I’ve found I get at least an extra 50 miles per tank (local driving) with the mild map, so I’ve reinstalled it for better economy. 🤷♂️

Loads of people seem to remove the bag of silicone in case it bursts and buggers up the system. I’ve never removed one yet. Agree, you should always use distilled water, but put it in for a service and you never know what they may use …you can probably tell I have little faith in dealers doing what’s right. 🙂

I understand the bag helps to extend coolant life = more environmentally friendly. I would rather change the coolant more frequently and use distilled water as opposed to the bag splitting and dumping the contents in the cooling system and heater matrix. I must admit that the bag appeared to be tough as old boots when I checked it over before chucking it in the bin 😀 gregozedobe
VR6 South Posted Monday at 17:24 Report Share Posted Monday at 17:24 It would be interesting to know if the MK8 has a coolant bag fitted.

I could be wrong but it appears not. No ‘mit silikat’ stamped on the expansion tank and no sign of a bag in the tank that I can see. GMballistic Posted Monday at 20:26 Report Share Posted Monday at 20:26 @Jace how much was the triangle then if you don't mind sharing? Frustratingly it's one of the things I noticed about my estate when I bought it and thought to myself I'll put a triangle in it that Ii had from a previous car buy typically the one I have doesn't fit. Hopefully something we'll never need anyway but I believe if you travel to France you need one by law.
AHG Posted Monday at 22:20 Report Share Posted Monday at 22:20 Can someone upload a pic of this bag ? I don’t think I ever saw it in any car (maybe it’s a hot country thing, dunno)

It was £22.50 from my local VW parts dept, part # is 000.093.055.AA Yes you'll need one for France as part of your road safety kit.
