Autowatch Ghost Bypass

Recommended Posts

On the verge of having Autowatch Ghost fitted to my 7R so I’ve been looking at reviews online but I stumbled upon this video of a bypass, they guy has uploaded 2 instances of him doing this on YouTube

https://youtu.be/Q97TDEfJASY

Can anyone confirm if this is a known bug, if so hasn’t it been patched? Seems to only be this guy so might be an error in his system.

To be fair who try’s to restart multiple times to test it? Mmm I might now I’ve seen this.

I’ll repost when done.

The average nitty who tried to take the car will probably try it 2 or 3 times and then give up but I’m just thinking if it’s a well known flaw on the device it could be all that money for a little delay in them taking it.

Appreciate it if you report back!

If you do some further research on other forums and from official ghost installers this is apparently down to a poor installation of the unit.

It would be very poor indeed if this were to be an ‘official’ way of bypassing it.

Tried it several times on mine this morning and after it failed to start the next time I pressed start it simply turned the ignition off, so I had to press it again to turn the ignition on, therefore auto resetting the ghost, and by pressing start again it failed to start. That video is a poor installation or he has had it deliberately fitted like that to ‘claim’ he found a bypass to the system.

My question would be

Why would you post a video online of your own car bypassing the ghost and showing how someone could nick it? It would be fairly easy to track down where this guy lives and therefore making it another potential easy picking for thieves.

The guy must be a retard.

Anyway mine works as it should which I’m happy with.

Good to hear it’s all working, I thought maybe he might have removed it after finding the bypass but either way it most likely is just a problem with his hardware or dodgy fitting.

Going to look into some more immobilisers, I keep hearing good and bad things about each one so need to weight them all up!

From what I gather the best two pieces of kit currently on the market are the ghost and the pandora, you can even have both installed which would cover every eventuality!

I have seen comments on forums so take that as you will of people saying classic immobilisers are more easily found due to the size and the way they are wired compared to the Ghost which is more ‘stealthy’

On a specific forum page various people were saying Audi RS’s have been taken with Ghost fitted but apparently ghosts on VW cars are set up differently so it can’t be done?

Like I said this is all people’s comments so need expert advice really but I don’t want the opinion of someone who only sells ghost who is trying to get a sale rather than giving out facts.

[email protected] - can you help here please buddy

Hi guys,

I’m away on holiday at the moment so I’ll keep it brief as I’ve covered this video several times and once home I’ll post the link to the thread on the Audi Sport forum.

Basically it’s a stooge video designed to ruffle feathers and discredit the ghost after an installer failed to fit one correctly and was struck off as a dealer. He got the hump and this video was the result. What is shown in the video does happen if the device isn’t installed correctly. I tried to contact the guy in the video before I realised it was a stooge. He turned comments off on the video and abused Autowatch staff when they contacted him. If it was genuine why would he do these things after spending £399.00 to protect his £40k car?

Anyone who want to try it on here are welcome to but your vehicles won’t start you’ll just flatten your batteries.

Trust me your vehicles are Immobilised. *unless installed by this clown*

Cheers for the clarification on that Mark! Did seem suspicious that it was only the one guy’s video posted 3 times on YouTube 😂

Hope your enjoying your holiday anyway.

Could I ask your opinion on AWG and if you’d be happy as a customer to have it fitted to your vehicle or would you rather go for another immobiliser for another reason?

If your happy to give feedback I can wait until your back for a response, enjoy your holiday 👍🏼

Yes after the 17 odd times I tried it this morning I got a low battery warning displayed. 😂

Hello,

I personally think the ghost is a great bit of kit and one that the industry has needed for a lot of years. I use it on my own vehicles and I’ve also had many customers who’s potential theft has being stopped by it. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not for everyone and I always advise to go with the product that best suits you and your circumstances.

I’m personally knocking on the door of 700 installations without any real issues and to those customers who are unsure about it I always say “I’ll fit you one and if it doesn’t give you confidence and you’re not 100% happy with it then I’ll give you your money back and remove it”. I can’t say any fairer than that.

The Ghost will prevent the theft by the most common methods other than tow away, for that you need a tracker.
Some installers will offer a standard category 2 Immobiliser but if they take your keys then they’ve still got your car as that’s where the touch key for the Immobiliser is kept.

I personally will always have one on any vehicle I own.

Hope the above helps.

So I own a 7R and have driven a S3, both felt pretty similar to drive but the Audi steering feeling a bit vague IMO

Has anyone driven the Cupra 300? If so how does the driving feel compared to the S3 & R? I have only seen 2 on the road in person.

I know they are all virtually the same car underneather and just tarted up but would be interesting to hear about the driving feel, I’m sure I can remember reading the seat has sharper handling.

The interior on the seat though 🤢🤢😂 but I suppose you get what you pay for... For me the S3 saloon exterior is king but I prefer the Golf interior layout far more but it’s without question that the Audi is the better quality interior.

      Hi All,

I bought a Golf MK6 R 3 weeks ago and the buttons on the fobs were temperamental. Both worked at the same time when they did work. Both stopped working at the same time when they didn't work.

I took it into VW. They said I had a non-genuine key and a genuine key and could only proceed if they were working with two genuine keys with the same part numbers. Fair play I said. I'm keeping the car long term and don't mind buying a genuine key.

Bought a new key today. Had two original keys coded to the car today and the buttons on both keys still don't work. They simply unlock the car manually and start the car as was always the case.

I've had enough of VW using this case as a tickbox exercise. They're now asking me to pay another £60 for diagnostic from this point onwards.

Now knowing that the aftermarket key was working fine is a bit annoying as it has been a waste of time buying a new key.

Does ANYONE have any idea as to how I should be dealing with this?

FYI - The comfort control module behaves as it should when i turn the ignition on. i.e. Lights come on - doors unlock etc. This makes me think the CCM is just fine but i could be wrong.

What else could it be? A cut wire? the immobiliser box? But the immobiliser disengages when I start the car.

If there any specialists you know that have experience with this matter then by all means, pass on their details. Based in Manchester

      Kind regards,

      Balal😑

Hi guys , im new to the forum.

I have a mk7 golf r and i am currently running a jb4 with a resonator delete, vwr600 intake , silicone hose and turbo inlet elbow from racingline.

I would like to get a downpipe next ,but im not sure as to which would be the best for not throwing any cel lights up.

Do you need a sports cat such as the bcs 200cell cat or can you just purchase a a downpipe without  the cat.

Cheers for any help in advance.

Seeking decent independent VAG specialist garages around Sunbury/Feltham/Staines/Twickenham/Heathrow areas. Car (not my 7R) is out of warranty and I do not trust main dealers and will avoid them at all costs (due to past experiences).

I tried searching the forum for existing threads on recommended indy garages but it returned 0 results. I then moved to Google and found a few in the area, just wondered if anyone had any experiences to share with these? Thanks in advance!

Thread with more information on Westside VW 2017 - 24 Sept 2017, Sunday. It is the show's 10th anniversary this year.

We can use this space to discuss the meet and form plans and perhaps convoys?

I attended last year and it was a pretty chilled event with some nice cars. All marques of VAG are welcome and there is a separate space for other makes which included some rare beasts from BMW, Mercedes etc. Mind you, the cricket ground was full by 1100hrs so it is a good idea to arrive early. Entry is £10 (no advance bookings, pay on gate) and gates open at 0900hrs. For an extra £5 you can also participate in their Show and Shine contest with prizes from sponsors.

Website with more information and videos etc from past shows: http://westsidevw.co.uk/
      Map and Location: http://westsidevw.co.uk/westside-treffen-2015-page/westside-treffen-directions-map/

*I am NOT affiliated with the organisers* - but I do know some other groups that plan on convoying from South London/Surrey side.
