Never quite understood the whole electric car thing. Where does the electric come from? Fossil fuelled power stations..

This is especially true for Germany, Poland and other EU countries towards the East.

Germany binned their nuclear power which left them in a bit of a dilema.

During a pub chat, a mate pointed out to another bloke in the group, his Tesla had already used more CO2 than his fiat 500 even before he drove it, down to shipping to U.K.

Don’t the performance models (GTi / R) normally appear a few months after the new version appears anyway?

Yes. With the R being the last of the performance models to come out.

What is worse is that having binned nuclear power Germany is having to increase the use of Lignite (Brown Coal) to generate electricity. Lignite has a very low thermal efficiency, you might as well burn mud.

Yep, hence the bit of a dilema comment.

Poland and that entire area have vast coal reserves and it is a nightmare moving off them.

Germany going full electric means burning even more inefficient coal and producing more CO2.
