NEW MK8 GOLF (CAR magazine Sept issue)

Some more on it here:

The new 2020 VW Golf R

The next VW Golf R is, again, powerful and composed – an uber-GTI with tidier road manners and a more comprehensive specification. It shares its 328bhp turbocharged 2.0-litre four with the forthcoming Arteon shooting brake. The peak torque of 295lb ft is distributed to all four wheels via the seven-speed DSG. Expect an acceleration time of 4.3sec and relatively frugal fuel consumption. A 48-volt system with mild hybrid technology should be available on all three high-end Golfs.

Looks good to me.

As long as the price isn't getting silly it's still on the list.

What realistically would current owners expect the Mk8 to be like in terms of power and spec.

I would have like to have seen a 2.5l engine personally, only because it goes more scope for tuning

Am I right in thinking there won't be a 3DR version? pictures above seem to suggest otherwise.

Yes, I got the idea too that Golfs we’re set for 5 Dr only.

🤔

I won't be surprised if the bean counters find more areas for cost-cutting (gotta pay for that "new tech" somehow).

In the past they have removed things like engine under-tray, door mirror screw covers, battery cover, back lights for switches in overhead lights etc etc
