MK7.5 R ESTATE “CLUBSPORT”

Recommended Posts

I thought I would start a “build” thread as I’ve been making a few changes over the last few months, so would be nice to keep everything documented.

I bought the car brand new at the end of 2017, and is had remained fairly stock until now, but due to the arrival of a baby, I sold my other car, Which I used to track fairly regularly, so thought I would kill two birds with one stone, and create a capable family car ready for the track.

here is the car the day I picked her up.

The first thing I decided to do was sort out the ride height and get a decent set of wheels and tyres on, so I picked up a set of 19x8.5 Racingline cup wheels, with super sport tyres.

then I took a trip to EMP performance, and had the wheels fitted, while also having the stock exhaust tips coated satin black, and having an anti drone res delete pipe fitted.

here’s the finished product

really happy with how the wheels looked once fitted, with the H&R springs, also the res delete really woke the car up, unleashed the pops and bangs on overrun, and is the exact right noise level fir my tastes! Pleased with it!

After that I decided to fit a few little visual touches.

black inlay badges all round and black grill strip.

also picked up a pair of carbon mirrors of eBay, after buying a dodgy pair and sending them back, I tried a different seller and got a decent set

really pleased with the difference the mirrors make, not a fan of the silver mirrors, especially now the wheels are black. I think the car looks a bit more purposeful now!

After running the car for a few weeks, I thought the rear wheels could fit verY slightly better, so fitted some 8mm hubcentric spacers on the rear.

after.

very subtle, but it really changed the look of the car, made it look a bit more aggressive and purposeful.

After that, I decided it was time for a bit more power, so took her to MRC Tuning for their custom STAGE 1 map along with their DSG tune, turbo technics TIP, forge dog bone mount, hunter 4 wheel alignment and had them do a full dsg and haldex oil change and service while it was in there.

Befire I took it in, I carried out the air box mods, (cutout, blanking plate and snow plate removal) and fitted a racing line foam panel filter. But forgot to take pics.

was over the moon with the stage 1 results.

392ps and 540nm

seemed really strong stage 1 numbers! I was expecting around 350-360.

the car really feels like an animal, and every bit of almost 400bhp, really is rapid now! Very happy with how it turned out, the dog bone mount seemed to have tightened up the car a bit too.

also they turned up the pops and bangs on the overrun when in race mode, with the res delete now it sounds nuts!

Had a work trip to do right after the map, so took the car with me and gave her a good run, really happy with it.

also managed to give her a clean!

Also, a few bits arrived!

AP racing Radi-CAL kit from Reyland motorsport.

4 pot callipers, with 362mm 2 piece floating front discs, and 350mm rear discs, DS2500 pads and hell braided lines all round.

also bought some rs3 brake ducts to fit.

always found the stock brakes pretty inadequate, especially for any sort of track work, and even more so now with the MRC map!

Headed back to MRC Tuning to have the brakes fitted, along with a racing line oil management system.

after having a bit of a nightmare finding out after the car was in bits on the ramp, that half the bolts for the brake kit were missing, and having to borrow a car from MRC and drive halfway to reyland and pick them up (luckily they were fairly close!) I was on the way home, with brakes and catch can fitted.

the brakes look and feel great, I’m still bedding them in, but already feel a lot, lot stronger! Looking forward to giving them a run on track soon!

That brings everything up to date! I will keep updating as more bits get done, still a few things on the list!

i did buy an OBD11 so have been getting stuck in with that, coding in the sport haldex setting which seems to make a decent difference, also turned off the soundaktor, which to me had made the car 1000x better to drive.

Looking very nice !
got the same colour on my 5-door R, also black wheels and black mirror caps.

But I’ve been thinking of fitting carbon mirror caps for quite a while now.

I haven’t done it yet because I read there are so many dodgy caps on the internet.

Can you share where you got them please ?

best regards

Steven

Had a friend of mine, Alex at Vivid Vinyl come over today and sort of a few exterior bits, did the roof rails, re did my front grill (I did a bad job of it myself ha ha) and colour coded my MRC badge.

thanks man, I’m pretty sure the eBay seller was UK carbon, or something like that, they are great. We’re about £90, the first set I bough was off the guy who has loads of listings when you search for carbon mirrors, but they were terrible
