With regards dashboards in general and manufacturers cutting costs...... seems Mercedes have played a blinder in not only creating a dash that loads of people seem to rave about (new A Class), but they've probably saved themselves a shed load in manufacturing costs.

You cant get a lot simpler than a slab of dash with very little shape and a elongated ipad stuck on it.

Agree, the A Class dashboard could be more aesthetically pleasing, but Mercedes have at least retained what looks like a conventional rotary light switch (to the right of the steering wheel), and the panel below the three central air vents look like conventional controls for heating, ventilation, air con and rear screen demister.

So A Class drivers won’t have to fumble around a touch pad for the lights ‘buttons’ and rear screen demister, or find a menu in the infotainment screen to adjust the cabin temperature like a mk8 Golf driver will need to - and all while trying to concentrate on driving the car.

for me the Aclass cabin is perfect and certainly not boring, the one in the pic basic car I think, we have an a200 AMG and feel the cabin is the perfect mix of tech, touch and physical buttons with good design and decent feeling plastics in all the key places.

indeed, there's nothing wrong with a nice big screen interface showing lots of options and info. It's for looking at. Important controls are inherently better if they're physical, it's that simple.
Yep that's the perfect balance, nice big screen showing exactly what you want but buttons/switches or even a mouse type device to control it all not touching the screen

And it keeps my car OCD in check as there’d be no finger marks on the screen 🙂.

An interesting news item on the BBC website today - Tesla driver In Germany distracted and crashed while using the car’s touchscreen to adjust the speed of the windscreen wipers;

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-53666222

Could just as easily be a mk8 Golf driver being distracted and crashing while using the infotainment screen to adjust the heating / ventilation / climate controls 🤔.

      Howdy folks,

My name is Sam and I am a proud owner of a one of a kind Black Golf 7R, DSG with 5 Doors. I have named her Raven (I have my reasons   )

Bit of background: I upgraded from a Mk5 GTI that was running a Stage 2+ Tune from R-Tech. My previous build thread (picture heavy) can be found here: http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,92146.0.html

I test drove a 7R at the start of 2016 and had my heart set on one ever since. However, I was too picky and wanted the exact specification I had in mind. Luckily I soon found the previous owner and have closely followed the development of this car from stock. I finally took ownership at the end of 2016. And needless to say...what a machine...
      To put things into perspective
      2011 GT-R R35: 523HP, 451LBFT, 1740KG
      2014 Raven: 550HP, 556LBFT, 1401KG
In her base form, she's a top spec Japanese Import 7R (2014 model). Factory spec includes:
      - 5 Door DSG in DBP
      - DCC (now swapped with VWR Coilies)
      - Discover Nav Pro with Reverse Camera
      - Sunroof
      - Keyless Entry
      - Black Leather interior with fully electric driver's seat adjustment
      - Lane Assist, Light Assist and all the other trimmings such as ACC etc
I do not have the mods list compiled - its' a big list.. so for now, enjoy some pictures. Feel free to follow my Insta @sam.7r for recent updates.

LOADS of changes have been made since I've taken ownership and there are plenty more in the pipeline. So stay tuned..
Most of the changes I've made are related to suspension, chassis, wheels, audio and some performance. There's few cosmetic bits too.

I will continue to update this thread as and when I can..

Latest Dyno Plot from March 2017:

So I'm deciding whether to buy a 2015 MK7 Golf R white for £17,400 with 29k miles (private) OR 'Approved Used' 2015 Lapiz Blue MK7 Golf R for £19,100 with 12k miles.
The approved used one is from a dealer so it comes with 12 months warranty which I would've bought (extended warranty for a year) so it saves me ~£630.

All the other MK7 Golf Rs I can see for sale are around £18,000 for 2015 with 30-40k mileage and £19,000 for 2016 models with roughly the same mileage.

I will be selling the car in a years time so I'm not too sure which one to go for? This might be a dumb Q but does mileage outweigh the reg/production year even if the car is lower mileage than the 2016 higher mileage? I will probably do max 7000 miles in the year.
Also, if the Used Approved ones are ex-demos should I avoid them??

Been looking for quite a while so would appreciate your suggestions- many thanks!

Hi all have had a rear differential oil leak and have noticed it’s from this small hole in the rear diff was wondering if it’s a breather hole for the rear diff but was wondering if there should be a pipe or something there to stop the oil from coming out
