Service questions

Recommended Posts

Hi all just signed up, had my 2017 mk7.5 r from new just a few questions about the services. When I brought the r got the first 2 services for something like £150 I think which was oil service and oil and inspection. Car is now coming up for its 3rd service dealer has said it's a major service but I think it should just be an oil service is this correct?

Next question about oil because it was on a service plan on the first service all I got was a piece of paper saying it had been serviced and never thought anything of it. On its second service they gave me a proper receipt which said they used shell helix hx7 10/40 oil. I said that this was the wrong oil for the r all I got was its correct oil for a fixed  service and it was what was used on the first service. Was not happy about having this oil in for 12 months, I said it says VW 504 0il under the bonnet not 502 got nowhere with them even got VW customer service involved but they agreed with the dealer. Got the oil changed myself to VW 504 5/30. So if they wont use VW 504 5/30 or want extra money for it has anybody supplied their own oil to a main dealer and it's been ok?

A lot of dealers may use different oils than originally specified, seen it with Honda too (for the tdci they spec’d 5w30 but dealers used 10w30). And that’s why I use a good independent specialist, they’re not fixed or told what to use. I’ve supplied my own oil before, then I know it’s right and they’ll happily use it. Less Corperate and more customer focussed as that’s they’re business.

Third service is a minor service, major are even years (even major is only an extended oil service).

Third year service is

Oil & filter
Brake fluid
Haldex service
MOT (although these have automatic 6 month extension)

Would be better to supply own oil, like you say it will be right and cheaper as well. Would use an independent but have a 4th years warranty and plan to extend it at 4 years old, just think its makes things easier should a warranty claim arise if its VW service history.

Cheers for that thought it should  be a minor. Knew about brake fluid and haldex although service is due in June car isn't 3 years old till Sept so was going get those done with the mot then. Could the dealer have got them the wrong way round? as display says oil and inspection in 25days.

What mileage has the car covered Fino?  With Haldex the indy specialist I use is starting to recommend 20-25K intervals for oil and gauze filter cleaning on the Haldex system.  Most VW dealers will only change the oil as the official line is that the filter isn't a swappable/serviceable part; some dealers are a bit more savvy and do strip and clean it though.  The gauze gets really gummed up and puts extra strain on the pump, which is often the part most prone to failure due to this extra stress.  I had mine done last week at 23K miles and it apparently wasn't the worst they'd seen but it was in a bit of a state.

Hi  penguin car has only done 17000 but I did have the haldex oil and filter clean at 10000 because I read about the filter blocking up. they said it was quite clean. I know dealer would probably only do the oil but at least it would be recorded as being done if any warranty issues.
