So I have had the car 7 months now and have to say it’s the best car I have owned.I bought what I thought was a standard car but after driving it a few weeks I thought the exhaust sounded loud and droney. After seeing threads about res deletes I had a look under the car and found that this was the case.My intention before buying the car was to go for a Miltek system and this just speeded up the process. So just before Xmas I contacted Progressive Parts in Manchester about a resonated/valved cat back system which they fitted.

Car now sounds so much better with the valves closed and with them open gives a lovely deep growl, also looks a lot better.

So I got Xmas out the way and was on the lookout for new wheels.I had narrowed my choice down to 2.Racingline R360 in gunmetal or Revo RVO 19 in matte anthracite,I decided on the latter. These were purchased from Progressive Parts along with the racingline nut and stud kit and went on in March along with Michelin PS4s 235/35/19.

I was surprised to find out the ride improved after going on to 19s,think it’s a combination of lighter wheels and better tyres.Car now looks a bit like a tractor with the arch gap and needed lowering desperately.Unfortunatley the small matter of a world wide pandemic put things on hold, although I was in contact with Awesome GTI about options and they recommended the KW 1’s to retain ride comfort as well as better handling.

These were purchased mid May and were fitted end of May once the workshop opened.

Car now handles, rides and looks a lot better now.Think the only thing I may add looks wise,is a subtle carbon front lip.Next on the list is power and to go stage 1 and as it’s a manual will need an uprated clutch. So it will be back to Awesome for the APR/Sachs package which should see me finished mods wise for a bit.

It’s going in for paint correction on Monday, really don’t have time or facilities do a proper job myself. He is also trying to sell me on ceramic coating, although I am still undecided on that.

I don’t think many have regretted having pro applied ceramic coating!  It all depends really.  If you’re time limited on maintaining it (outside of doing a full detail jobbie) then it will be a sound decision as it will pretty much be wash and go, with perhaps the odd top up of a complementary quick detailer or wet coat type product now and then.  But, if you do like to spend time adding your own protection, perhaps experimenting and trying other kinds of protection products then you might not get the most out of it.  You can of course still do that with a ceramic coat on but that kind of defeats the object of it.

That’s my dilemma.I like using different waxes and sealants trying to achieve a deep gloss.I know ceramic will keep swirls down to a minimum but it sort of takes the satisfaction out of cleaning your car.Like you said it’s basically wash and go.

Precisely why I’ve never had a ceramic coat on the R and have no desire to get one (had one on a previous car).  I also think that a good carnauba was gives a very specific finish that is lacking with ceramic coats. Ceramic coats excel in many areas but for me fall short in some aesthetic areas particularly on mid coloured and dark cars.  I think doing your own protection is greatly satisfying if you can find the time and enjoy it. It’s not like you’re waxing every week but it keeps that sort of connection and it’s nice to try different things now and then when you feel like it. Plus if you do get time to do a full detail at sone future point you’re not polishing off an expensive pro ceramic coat!  As for swirls, a ceramic coat won’t stop them occurring, but will be a longer lasting protection option generally.

Guess you’ve got a day left to think it over.

Car looks lovely! I'm thinking about going for the same exhaust, I was unsure if the sound would be enough with it being resonated but your write up it sounds perfect 👌🏻

What did you go for with the paint correction?

Go for it with the exhaust, you won’t be disappointed.I have turned the soudakator off so I can hear the proper exhaust note.

Paint correction wise it’s having full paint correction the I’m having Matrix black ceramic coat. This is the more expensive of the 2 versions but he let me have it for the same price as the cheaper version. The ceramic comes with a 8 year guarantee.

The last pic of the bumper looks like I have been washing it with a brillo pad.Although I did have a small chip repaired near the diffuser by a local bodyshop just before lockdown.
