Revo stage 2 IS38 EA888 GPF released!

Recommended Posts

Morning all,

Nice surprise with the release of https://www.onlyrevo.com/product-details/software/volkswagen/golf-vii/386/stage-2-gpf

Headline figures:

  • 368-400 PS
  • 365lbft to 415lbft torque
  • £649 for the software (excluding tax and 70% customer discount for those with stage 1)

Requirements:

  • Intercooler and uprated pipes.
  • Cold air intake and filter, turbo inlet hose, turbo inlet

No downpipe required!

Granted the numbers quoted aren't massive, and some people are running are running the lower quoted figures at stage 1 with no hardware.

All I'll need is an uprated intercooler now (probably Wagner) so hopefully Santa can sort that out.

I wonder if this will be rolled out for non-GPF cars 🤔  I keep toying with stage 2 but the hardware upgrade costs vs. gains mean I'm not ready to jump off the fence just yet.

I see that Revo are also looking for a transmission specialist on their careers page so perhaps they'll concentrate on TCU tunes in the new year. I'm hopefully going to be getting a TVS TCU tune before Xmas so the clutch(es) would be ready for a little more torque

I'm sure they've done their homework but my feeling is that the OEM downpipe is the biggest restriction on the R and whilst you might get a decent power figure one a single run, the higher EGTs due to running more boost on a stage 2 car will cause the car to pull timing. I'm not sure what to make of some of their claims. I'd like to see a Revo tuned car back to back with APR, MRC, Unicorn and the like.

From what I've read and tuners I've spoken to, it can be a bit of a lotto as to whether or not some cars can even hit the lowest numbers quoted by Revo.  I heard that some R's were barely making 340 bhp with a Revo stage 1 but the majority do get 360+.  Getting 400 from a stage 2 seems to be a bit more difficult apparently, and that's with all the hardware.   I'd be very surprised if a stage 2 Revo made the same numbers as a Stage 1 MRC or Unicorn but...does that make them a better map when all other things are considered?

Though I think many people chose Revo due to their overall reliability and OEM characteristics (or just the fact they have agents all over the UK).  I'm pleased with mine and I whilst I do sometimes think about looking at other remaps I just think; Does the car feel faster?  Yes. Is the power delivery nice and smooth? Yes. Have I ever had an issue with a Revo map? No.

I'd love to have the money to give all the well regarded tuners a go 🙂. It's a bit of a minefield when comparing maps/tuners as very few people have had the experience of more than one tuner!

I think that's why the quotes figures are on the conservative side.

Are there any other stage 2 tuners around that use the OEM downpipe on GPF cars to compare figures with?

Saw this today while at work. I have everything in place apart from the intercooler. The Wagner one at £799.99 seems the best in terms of performance unless someone can suggest differently?.

With the discount from being a revo member already it works out cheap (ish) for the software. The IC + fitting should be around £900 though. Just ran it by the wife and got 'the look'. Lets see how tonight plans out first haha!

Have you considered the Airtec jobby?

https://www.awesomegti.com/shop-by-car/volkswagen/golf-mk7/airtec-intercooler-upgrade-for-2-0tfsi-mqb-cars/

Is the Wagner 200 quid 'better'¿?

Or indeed MTC 50 Quid cheaper again

Or somewhere in-between

FORGE at £726

plenty of options, I suppose it depends on what your driving style is and how you are going to use your car.

Very interested in what you decide.
So is it like £200 for the software when upgrading?

I'm intrigued by not having to change the downpipe. Wonder if they will bring out a 'Mark 2' in the future that does require an upgrade, or (if they produce it) wait until stage 3 software is out

it’s around £260 with the loyalty discount year round as long as your VIN is registered as have bought a revo tune previously.

absolutely. Think I’m going to order the intercooler today at work and just not tell the wife yet. I’ll ring GotBoot and see if they can get me in for the £100 upgrade and fit the IC at the same time 😂.

If I pull this off and am not in a box I will of course do a similar write up about it. Will see how it goes and update accordingly.

cheers

Jon
