GAP insurance for 8R

It’s that time again.  Getting a few quotes in for GAP insurance for the incoming 8R.  So far ALA is looking most competitive at £253 for 3 years Vehicle Replacement Plus, that’s with 23% discount with code MSE25.  I had GAP with ALA on mk7 so once again offering a good price.

Sounds good Bec.  Did you try Car2Cover? If not, probably worth a couple of minutes on their web site. The quote is based purely on the value of the car, so they don't even ask for reg number. Not sure if that's usual practice or not. All I would say about them is that their customer service and claims handling (I use them for alloy wheel cover too) is excellent.

Hi Phil, thanks for the heads up about Car2Cover and good to have your recommendation of them.  Will get a quote from them now.  All the ones I used including ALA dont ask for a reg number either as it’s all on price of car. Some don’t even want car model details!

Car2Cover good price!  £259 so comparable to ALA and cheaper if you ignore discount code.  But ultimately ALA a bit cheaper and I’ve experience of them so probably go with them.

gapinsurance.co.uk are worth a look Bec, I've used them a few times in the past and can thoroughly recommend them.  The only sticking point may be that their underwriters withdrew cover for the Golf R a few weeks before I took delivery.  Apparently it was on their list of 'risky' cars, I was told this was likely down to the high number of thefts.

It might be different for the 8R though.

Thanks Penguin!  I’ve just had a look on their website at atm Golf R is excluded (doesn’t specify which mark) so on the blacklist!  😢 😁. Maybe they’ll update it so I’ll keep an eye out and can always ask about 8R on live chat tomorrow.

When I researched gap cover a few years ago, ALA came out best in the reviews but Car2Cover were cheaper.  ALA matched the price, so worth doing if they are more expensive.  I’ve used them in 4 cars and thankfully haven’t had to make a claim but they were very good when I swapped my car after 2 years and transferred the balance to the new policy which was great as it was nearly £500.

Thanks Martin.  ALA are coming out marginally cheaper than Car2Cover (by a few pounds) and I’ve used them past couple cars so most likely they’ll be the one I go for.

Rebecca, phone ALA and speak to them, they`re really helpful.

Ask nicely and you might just get more of a discount than using on online code :afro:

I`m sure you can use some charm for a better price, I did and it worked for me 😃

I’ll take a leaf out of your ‘charm’ book give it my best shot Neil!  😂

I used Car2Cover for my 7.5R and I spoke to them last week to cancel my cover after the R went to its new owner, they also said they would carry what was left on my policy over and apply it as ‘credit’ to a new policy as and when I take it out on the new car. Even though I said it may not be until September. £330 for 4 years cover (before my credit is applied)
