A Golf 8.5R with a 380hp engine would be a great way to celebrate them fixing all the bugs in the facelift!
AHG
I’m still standing by my guess that not much will change in the 8.5 other than unifying optics with the ID family (grill, lights) or commonality of parts to reduce production cost. And some software changes and additions probably (like auto overtake, or whatever it’s called).

Nice idea for a celebratory 380bhp R but they've got to fix the bugs first.............😂

We are pretty lucky here in Kent in terms of good wheel refurbishers, as there’s also Lepsons and Wheelclass (the latter company set up by previous founder/owner of Lepsons), so plenty of choice! Well that didn’t go to plan 🤦🏻♂️ Cleaned the car late last night and then cleaned the wheels a second time this morning before the wheel repair guy turns up at 830 this morning, for him to say that his spray booth doesn’t work on my house 220 Voltage 😂 Say what ? Yes he needed the plug into my mains and then he says it’s not strong enough. I was completely baffled 😮 Best start up your generator then ? Nope don’t have one of those. Ok I’ll drive to your base so we can do it from there, you guest it, nope I have the same problem at home. Ridicules 😂 So i might revert back to my original plan and get all my wheels resprayed non diamond cut and use one of the the two you suggested Becs 😁

They have the proper diamond cutting lathe equipment. They’ve always had a good reputation. It’s also worth a look at Wheel Class too as they set up in last few years and it’s the person who founded Lepsons (which was sold to venture capitalists years back) that owns it. Earlier this year someone who is in the know told me that Wheel Class had ‘poached’ quite a few of Lepsons best skilled staff recently and that had impacted. I’ve got a wheel needs straightening and one with slight kerbing and when I come to do them I’m tempted to try Wheel Class. https://wheelclass.co.uk https://wheelclass.co.uk https://instagram.com/wheelclass.ltd?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA== https://www.facebook.com/wheelclassltd I went to Wheelclass today and was very impressed with the staff knowledge, their helpfulness and good pricing but unfortunately because the damage is on the face side we decided not to attempt repair at the moment so I've ordered a replacement at my local VW dealer. It’s good to hear about your experience with Wheelclass, and it’s good to hear you were very impressed. Well considering what Becs said it doesn’t come too much of a surprise. Sorry you are not able to fix the wheel 🙁Ordering a new one from the dealership sounds expensive. How much is a new one ? But best be safe and have it as it should be and looking as it should. Sometimes you just have take it on the chin. PrettyVacant and Booth11

That sounds like a very positive experience with Wheelclass Simon, even if their services are not needed this time. Good decision with safety being primary (didn’t realise the buckle was on the face of your wheel). No doubt very costly having to replace the wheel but at least you can have full confidence in it. I must get the bend/buckle on mine sorted (it’s on the inside rim) and though I was already pretty much set on going to Wheelclass for the work, your positive and helpful feedback has made that a certainty. Thanks. 😊 PrettyVacant

Thanks. 😊 The new Estoril was £1067.04 and that was with a 10% discount! (I did buy two Prets in the past from them for the 7.5). Once I've got the new one on I will take the buckled one back to Wheelclass to try and fix. It will need a complete refurbishment as they would need to apply heat to the face rim lip which would damage the paint and there is also the small possibility it could crack. If successful it will be nice to have a spare for our rubbish UK roads As you are both from Kent please be careful if you are using the A2 coming out of London just before the M25 slip road. The hole is still there in all its glory on the white lines between the outside and middle lanes but is only a problem when changing lanes. My next problem is deciding on which tyre to replace the Hankooks with as now after 24000 (fronts 4mm rears 6mm) miles they are becoming quite noisy. At present I'm tempted to go back to Michelin PS 4S's as I can't see the 5S's been available for some time. I had to buy a new 19” Glendale for my mk6 GTI back in 2013 and that was £900 (that was with a Conti 5P tyre). Thanks for the heads up on the pothole Simon. 👍 Regarding replacement tyres, I can highly recommend the Conti Sport Contact 7s which I swapped to in March to replace the factory fitted Goodyear Eagle F1 Supersports. I’m finding the Conti 7s to be a brilliant tyre so far (4k mikes on them). I had 2 sets of PS4S on my mk7R and great tyre but so are the Conti 7s. Seems the PSS5 (new naming convention) are still oem only in certain sizes. Nighthawk

Before buying, I was a little fearful about the nvh on the Contis as I found the Conti 5Ps (my previous Conti tyre) to be pretty noisy and harsh (a good tyre though), but relieved to find my fears have been fully allayed. I find the Conti 7s a different beast altogether regards those aspects in a good way - the harshness of their predecessors is gone and noise wise let’s just say it’s not something I notice so I’ll take that as a plus. In terms of comfort, for me, they are better than the PS4S. And perhaps the most enjoyable difference - the Conti 7s feel more much more ‘precise’ regards steering and feel quicker than the PS4S. The PS4S could feel rather numb in steering at times. Obviously I has PS4S on a different car (7R) so that needs to be taken into account, but I have to say I’m preferring the Conti 7s, and that’s saying something as I the PS4S are an excellent tyre. And both better than the Goodyear F1 SS (a good tyre but not PS4S and CSC7 level for sure). Let’s see what a British winter (albeit usually quite mild in my neck of the UK) brings for the CSC7s!
