Best service I ever had was from Toyota, I couldn’t fault it and that was on a humble Yaris. AHG
I think it is a quota thing They don’t get cars flagged as assigned on the VAS until VW can supply the parts to that geography When they do, it will be flagged, and you will be called. Dealers know nothing (like in deliveries)
Rupert
Unrelated to the Golf's. But, I picked up a T-Cross at the weekend for a family member which had been on order. It has the tiny 1.0TSI and that too had no engine cover. I queried them and they were unable to provide a date for when it may arrive. Must be a problem they're hoping will go away. The dealers or VW uk just don’t seem to be bothered they just say there isn’t one for my R20 even if I ask but will there be
Microbe
Hi All, A quick question if I may, I have a full size 19" Estoril spare wheel from my previous 8R which I have just had refurbed and powder coated gloss black to match the wheels on my R20 years. BTW Wheel Class in Sittingbourne did a great job! My car has the Bridgestone tyres from the factory but the spare wheel is tyre less It's a spare to use occasionally when I have had a puncture or need to get a wheel refurbished I don't do many miles per year, maybe 4 -6,000 miles but will change to a better tyre when the Bridgestone's need replacing So should I:- A. Get a new Bridgestone tyre for it B. Get a new Conti 7 for it C. Wait and get a Mitchelin PS5s for it when they are available D. Get a cheap tyre as it's not going to be used much E. Don't put a tyre on it until I need to use it Or something else? Thanks

If the Bridgestones are anything like other Bridgestones it could be many many more thousands of miles before they wear down to need replacing. They are known for never dying! In that scenario you might want to stick a Bridgestone on it. or, if you’re likely to replace your current tyres earlier, and you do want the same type of tyre on your spare, maybe decide which way to go with replacements and if Conti 7 then fit one of those now (btw I can recommend Conti 7s) or if likely to be PSS5 you could wait but I think it’s better to get a tyre fitted to it now and then it’s all ready should you need to use it at short notice (i.e puncture). If it were me I’d want the same tyre on full size spare as on the rest of the car but that’s just a personal thing.
AHG
Found a scuff on the left tail light today Tried removing it with finger, paper, applicator, alcohol, and some spray. I know I should leave it be, because anything else will make it worse (swirls or damage coating etc) but I’m angry at myself for not PPFing them (my detailer said it is a wait of money, as tail lights don’t get scratched, they either break or not. I should have insisted). Some friends say I should get it polished and then PPF’d, but it is a hassle (would be at least a day) and an expense (~£250, I guess, maybe more). Thoughts ? Ideas ? Recommendations on a good therapist ? 😉
sbee
Quick question… I’ve seen other people in the past showing their e-mail which says when the car went over a certain speed and for how long. I’ve just been poking about in the VW app and the car manuals, but I don’t see what I’m looking for. I managed to set a limit, but nothing happened when I went over it - I presume that’s just a cruise control limit or something. Can someone point me in the right direction to enable ‘snitch mode’ please? My car is going in to the dealership to figure out why my interior light has a mind of its own. I’d like to know if it’s been taken for a joy ride. 😀 Thanks!

That’s a bit weird of your detailer to say that tail lights don’t get damaged and PPF is a waste of money. Even if they survive getting scratched and scuffed like yours unfortunately has, as they are plastic, much like the plastic B pillars, they mark quite easily and get swirled over time with normal washing, even with a good washing technique. I polished the swirls on my mk7R taillights (picked up over a 5 year period) and they came up well (see pics), but there were no deeper scratches to tackle. AHG
I’m pretty confident mine will polish out My problem is I don’t have the ability, knowledge, tools or experience to do it myself, and neither the time or energy to take it to the detailer (and probably leave it there for a day). If and when I do, I may ask them to cover it as well (despite the price). Great job on your 7R lights I don’t mind swirls, just scuffs annoy me. But maybe I should just let it be imperfect and focus on driving it 🙂

I have a scratch on my front passenger door inflicted by a low sticking out tree branch on a rural lane, part of it polished out as it hadn’t gone beyond the clearcoat but some of it is deeper and needs proper repair or at least smart repair, which I might one day get round to, or not! It’s barely noticeable but I know it’s there but I can live with it.
AHG
That is such a precise definition of nearly everything that bothers me: “barely noticeable but I know it’s there” I will wash the car tomorrow (trying the iK with Worx compressor and small nozzle) and will try to buff it a bit with the spray (Geyon maintain) And will just live with whatever remains
