mpv
And after 8 months of ownership I discover the centre armrest height (nit just length) is adjustable. Love that. AHG

Haha, 8 months is not too bad considering there are some that only discover this Golf feature (extendable length and height positions) after about 3 years ownership . 😆 It’s been a feature on Golfs for years. mpv

In fact I don’t think I’ve ever used it as an armrest at all. egg and mpv 1
Bugs2206
I knew it was height adjustable, but took 4 years of golf ownership to realize it extended forwards too. Now with the mk8 I just try a hover, a tap, a hold and a slide just to see what happens. Microbe and Booth11

If not you’re doing it wrong. 😂 Bugs2206 and mpv 1

First you must create a VW ID. Once you have created your VW ID then confirm your e-mail address add your profile data add your vehicle to your VW ID profile (You'll need the VIN for this) OK My problem is my country doesn’t show on the list, so I can’t fill out my details. I tried to get in with another and change later, and it will let me change but not into mine. So I guess I’m still not connected (sent them an email, just in case there is a way) Apparently it can send me updates if I’m not registered !? aldfort
Looking at the picture you posted you are connected to the VW servers you also are not on max privacy which you would be if you were a guest driver. Did you set a user name? When you get in the car does it say Welcome "username"? If you are getting OTA updates it is a fair bet you are connected. AHG
I am still on guest, and it doesn’t say my name and defaults to max security but you can manually change that to min security and then Cubic seems to connect. However, I’ve corresponded with VW and they said my region is not covered by WeConnect and currently is not planned to be, so I have no use for my VW ID and I will not be able to activate it. But perhaps SW updates are on a different level than other functionality, and connect to different servers at VW, and therefore operate anywhere they can get reception (once I change security to min.). Still, I will wait todo the update at the shop, so they can flash my car back to life in case the update puts my car is some form of problem. aldfort
That is confusing. The car must be registered with VW to get the OTA update. As you say maybe what VW are saying is you can't use WeConnect services. VW translate that to mean you wish to use the App. If you call them they will know if the car is registered with them on their servers. They will also know if you have installed any of the OTA updates.

They will also know if you have installed any of the OTA updates. Apparently there is a distinction between car-VW comms (OTS, NAV etc) and my registry (VW ID, primary user, WeConnect, Shop) and possibly the bandwidth and /or servers are separate (functionality is separate, for sure). The VW ID people claim that the German servers can’t communicate with that functionality in my car since it is out of EU (my area is currently not planned to be covered). Still, I got a notification to do the OTA, so some (maybe other) server in VW is communicating with my car over the air, but not with me as a registered user, just with the car on a maintenance level, probably. Weird … I’m still too chicken to press Update. Maybe once I have an appointment in the shop (want them to scan error codes, as car is nearly 1yo) I will try to update at home, knowing I have a fall back, assuming that even if it goes south I should still be able to drive it for 30min. Booth11 Posted Friday at 08:07 Author Report Share Posted Friday at 08:07 I’m not sure if this has ever been posted up before, in addition to the user tips in this thread, this is a useful intro guide for mk8R particularly for those brand new to the car, for familiarising with some the main features and the infotainment system etc. https://knowyourvw.com/models
mpv Posted Saturday at 01:13 Report Share Posted Saturday at 01:13 Hi all, after twelve months, I had my car the other day in the comfort (wife bluff) mode (yep am embarrassed to admit it) and on the highway it suddenly shows ECO on the dash, and the revs drop to about 800rpm. What is actually occurring here, is it partial or total cylinder deactivation? Whatever it is, it delivers very impressive fuel economy in this mode, and this shows the very diverse nature of this impressive car. It didn’t last long, as soon as my wife was out of the car, I reverted back to hooligan mode thankfully.
