Soon you’ll all be starting posts with “Hi, I’m a Mk8 R owner” as a sort of apology to any passengers.... Hi, my name’s Rebecca and I’m a Mk8 R owner… Reminds me of a work scenario a few years back that didn’t go quite as expected. I was attending some multi-agency meeting and got there very early, as did one other person who I was acquainted (and knew they had a dry sense of humour) with as we both worked for same organisation. It was just the two of us in the large room sat on opposite sides of a table facing each other. He broke the silence by saying….”Hi I’m Ken and I’m an alcoholic”. Up for the joke, I responded saying something like “Hi Ken, welcome, you’re brave taking this first step” to continue the humorous role play. But my delivery must have been too serious as he then thought I thought he really was an alcoholic, and he worriedly said, “I’m not really an alcoholic, I was just joking”, to which I replied “I know”. We then spent the next few minutes purposely avoiding each others gaze in an uncomfortable silence willing someone else to arrive. 😂 But anyway, I’m a Mk8R owner with very few gremlins (the car that is) and it’s a sensational car that puts a smile on my face every day. Mind you, so might alcohol. mpv, Scudgie, Shug and 3 others 1

Or "Hi, i used to be a Mk8 R owner until the warranty run out" Mine is booked in next week for the constant Emergancy/Travel assist errors, front drivers side door keyless sensor not working and broken puddle lights. (I managed to get a "cancellation" on the availability of a courtesy car apparently other wise i was looking at the end of Feb!!) I will let everyone know how i get on allthough i would be amazed if anything gets sorted then, probably best i can hope for is that they have ordered "parts" and bring it back in another 6 weeks. The end of my warranty inches closer every week 🙄 Booth11 and Dannybear83
McDoogle
2 weeks into owning the r20 and I've already had a few gremlins Randomly the car lost all its settings for ambient lighting, seat position and dash presets but nothing else. Then it lost the settings from the infotainment system such as turning on heated seats and wheel when cold but kept the other settings above. As of yesterday, the sensor for keyless entry started playing up but worked fine this morning. I have had travel assist errors twice but the car was iced over each time so not sure if it was being obstructed, hasn't done it when the car wasn't iced over. Overall small things so I'm not that fussed as they are intermittent and still enjoying the car. Dannybear83 and Booth11

dopper99
Ok, so just picked up the car from the dealer for them to look at various alerts (front parking sensors, front assist fail etc...) and they wont do anything. Said the fault that was logged was "......weather influenced...." or something like that. Said they cleared the codes, road tested it and it was ok. I asked what happens when it pings again tomorrow, they said VW wont fix it unless they are many codes logged in the history, so "keep an eye on it". And "perhaps when the weather gets warmer the pings will stop". I dont fully blame the dealer as it sounds like their hands are tied by VW. And they said VW are "very strict" on fixing these sorts of things. They also said many owners are coming in with similar faults "....but whether VW will address it....." they said. Not impressed, not impressed at all. Booth11 and Dannybear83 1

They fobbed you off “weather influenced” ☹️ They tried telling me it’s because I have been driving around with my rear passengers seat belt clipped in with no one seating in them messes up the safety systems lol . speedjunkie
Dollyman
2 hours ago, dopper99 said: And "perhaps when the weather gets warmer the pings will stop". Lame excuses, I'm sure we've all seen pictures of camouflaged Mk 8's under development in snowy Scandinavia. What's the point of that if they can't even cope with British winter which is mild in comparison. Nath_27 and Dannybear83 1
AHG
I think it means that they know by now that giving you a new steering wheel will only hold you off for 2-3. On the, and you’ll be back, so they prefer to defer you to a point in time which (hopefully)they will have a software solution to allow the sensors to distinguish between real issues and artifacts. A friend with GTI8 came in with similar claims, they told him (honestly) “the best we can do is swap you steering wheel” but since he knows someone that had 2 swaps already, he said “let’s wait” and got back to driving. When the pings start they are almost constant now and would drive anybody mad over a long journey. I also consider it to be dangerous as they are very off-putting and distracting while driving!!!! That response is simply unacceptable. If when they say "many codes logged" they mean how many times it has errored/pinged, then mine should have 1000's logged!!!! Will let you know what my dealer says next week. Dannybear83 and CristianH 1
MJC1216
That's the sort of excuse i would expect from a Ford Garage in the 1980's not a so called premium brand in the 21st century. Booth11 and jason1972
