Hi Becs,

Is the RVC fix separate from 1941?  I'm on 1900 and had my first camera flicker a few days ago and was hoping the 1941 OTA would have fixed it.  Haven't seen the OTA yet though.

They seemed to intimate that it was but it wasn’t explicit I’m afraid.

The car was booked in for the 1941 software update, investigation of RVC flickering and rear traffic errors, plus replacement top mounts.  On the Sunday the OTA 1941 update popped up but I didn’t download and install it as it was going in to dealership next morning.  When I dropped the car off, I explained that it was available OTA and could they action it.

Mid afternoon I phoned them for an update to find out when the car would be ready and they’d only just started working on it and said that they’d noted there were 2 updates available for my car to address the RVC issue and the rear traffic alerts.  It sounded like these were in addition to the 1941 big update but I can’t be certain if they were or whether at least one of them was separate or not.  They asked if they could keep the car overnight just in case the software updates took a while but I needed the car for work today so I said it had to be ready for when they closed.  When I collected it there was no paperwork offered as it was warranty work, but the master tech took me through what he’d done and though not particularly clear, it did come across as though there was more than just the 1941 update carried out to address the software issues.

Maybe wait till the 1941 OTA comes through on yours Len and install it and see if it remedies the RVC flickering which some others have said it has.  If not, then find out if there’s another update to address it.  If I get chance I’ll ask my dealership.

Mine went in specificaly for the rvc issue and they stated they did an update to the rvc unit itself, which didn't fix it. A couple weeks ago, it went in again for suspension noise and they did the 1941 update aswell. This seems to have fixed the rvc issues for me, aswell as the emergency assist bongs 🤞🤞

I think systems reboots can be diminished by the startup sequence

But like any phone or PC it will reboot once in a while

This was a theory of me too: Let everything start up, before actually starting the car. Can't be good robbing all the starting computers, modules, etc.. from power, by starting the engine in the middle of booting up.

Don't know if it really helps, but i've been thinking about this too 🤔

That’s helpful info @-kenny-.

I did suspect the 1941 would address at least one of the software issues mine went in for.

So far today on my car - no flickering RVC, no screen reboots and no horrible grinding/creaking on turning the steering wheel or drunk noise going over speed bumps.  Early days but so far so good!

Mine has now got the new steering wheel  fitted and so far no more sos/travel assist warnings. I do appear to however have another issue. There was a software update which came through which talked about Error manual update and some small fixes. It downloaded ok and then started doing the update. It seems to be stuck half way through the update with the progress bar not moving at all. This morning I got in the car and it said there was another update - 1941 and it started downloading this whilst still saying it was doing the previous update.  It downloaded about 800mb of the 2.5Gb of 1941 and then the 1941 update disappeared and is is still saying it is doing the previous software update.

I am tempted to reset the infotainement system to try ad resolve the stuck update - any suggestions?

Do I assume with the 1941 update, you can set it going then get out and lock the car and it will carry on till its done? I cant imagine you have to stay in the car the whole time?

The previous owner of my car never updated it. Since i've owned it, it's done about 3 ota updates. (Also 2 done in the shop and still not faultless 🤦)

Once the update is downloaded and you start it, you can leave the car, lock it... The update will complete on it's own.

Also, as noticed by others, every major update has been followed immediately by a smaller one, wich completes in a few seconds. So that seems normal.

I could be wrong (and mine was done at dealership) but doesn’t it download in the background as your either driving or if not driving, with the car ignition on (and maybe hooked up to a battery charger as a precaution)  and then to install the download you exit and lock the car and leave it to install?

Mine had a series of small updates immediately after the big 1941 update as mentioned by @-kenny-

Yes. In my experience, and i believe this is in the disclaimer when you start the download too, the download itself pauses when you interrupt it by turning the ignition off. But it resumes when you turn the iginition back on.

Once the install itself starts, the car is not useable anyway. It continues untill it's complete.

I’d also leave it a couple days (or at least a couple of ignition restarts, to see if it resolves and 1941 reappears.

I has a couple very minor updates (not system ones) this morning and they completed installation but the message stating they’d been completed would not disappear or delete as is usual, but on the next ignition start up they did clear.

Thanks Becs

I’ll do the OTA whenever it arrives and see how it goes

Thanks both.. Interested to hear that Kenny said above it (may) fix the infernal sos/ta bongs! Would be good if that is the case as it'll save me a trip to the dealer. 🙂

Still waiting for 1941 to appear on mine. I had a couple of minor updates over the last couple of days. But not the big one.

Same was for me in the first few updates I had, message wouldn’t delete without restart. I think in the last one it allowed me to delete the massage, not sure.

@mahalo

I’d wait a few more days before doing a hard reset

just my opinion

My first (small) update got stuck a couple of times, and each time it persisted for a while and wouldn’t let me do it again until a few days had past, when it would “give up” on the attempt and ask me if to download as if it never tried before.

If that happens to you, I suggest going to settings and tethering to your phone via WiFi (instead of eSim) before engaging the download.

Your phone probably has a stronger, faster and more stable connection.
