008213 - Intake Manifold Flap Position Sensor (Bank 1)

Recommended Posts

Hi all, my MK6 GTI has this error and check engine light on the dash. It's also reporting misfires on 4 and 2. I will post the full error log after this. Car idles very unsteady, constant hiss from the right of the engine when facing it from the front of the car (battery side). Reading online it seems likely to be the intake manifold flap/motor at fault. Anyone with experience of this agree or suggest otherwise?

Also I noticed what looks like a hose missing. See the two circled hose connectors in the pic are just open to the air and nothing connected to them. Is that right? No change in engine idle when I blocked them with my fingers and no blow/suction from either.

Rob

Thanks mate. It's booked in at my local specialist. They should be able to put it straight.

Needed a full intake manifold replacement. Fitted £720 but all sorted. They just cleaned the 4 and 2 sparks as the coil pack was fine. Been driving it for a few days since and it's bang on. Don't mind

Sounds like sticking runner flaps. You can get them replaced or do a runner flap delete, which is only really beneficial if you’re already running big power (and trying to remove any small flow restrictions). Cold starts can become an issue with the delete, as well. I’d recommend a proper fix instead.

Hopefully you’ve got a decent garage / specialist that can sort it for you. Good luck!

At least it’s sorted now. And yeah we’ve got to commit to maintenance costs if we want to enjoy these cars. You can’t really do it on the cheap!
