Haldex & DSG Service

Recommended Posts

I recently made a post about my car needing a haldex and dsg service, at the time of reading the post I phoned up a vw main dealer and audi/vw specialist to get some quotes on how much it would cost to get both done. The best quote I got was from the audi/vw specialist at £270 for both and they also confirmed they take out the pump and clean the filter.

My question is should I go to the specialist and get the work done or would it be worth while buying the tools/equipment etc and doing it myself, I don't mind getting my hands dirty but I'm unsure if it's worth the extra work to (maybe) save myself some money.

Think the OP posted that the VW specialist quoted £270 so for him to do both the DSG and the Haldex is a good price, given the OP has stated that he doesn’t have ramps or tools etc to do it himself. S

£270 about right for both.   I think the oils pricey to buy (c£150)+  drainage widget + software to check oil temps + jacking the whole car up to run through the gears!  Not entirely sure,

Defo needs doing then.   Get them to confirm it includes a filter clean and ask for photos and you’re good. If they don’t do it, ask them to explain why and don’t accept ‘it’s a non-servicea

All depends how tech savvy you are and what kit you have. I don’t have ramps etc. so wouldn’t attempt myself.
Also how much you cash vs your time?

Plenty on here have done it themselves and plenty just leave it to the garage. If they are cleaning the filter ask for before and after photos, as not uncommon for dealers to say it’s done but not touch the haldex filter

Yeah I don't have ramps or anything so I would basically be starting from nothing, might be worth while getting this done by the professionals and investing in some ramps etc in the future.

^^this.. VW Marshals told me that they would clean the Haldex filter, and they didn’t.. even with asking them when the car was in and on their lift.. unfortunately it seems that they say any old shit just to get you booked in..

I recently phoned up (same dealership) and asked for a service, they quoted me for spark plugs (which were done last year). When I said you did them last year, they said oh-well, we will still charge you for them and not fit them. …. seriously WTF..!

No longer a VW customer.. the R is no longer in warranty.. so bye-bye VW..

Just offer to pay for the non-existent spark plugs with non-existent cash 😜

I suppose it depends on whether you’re  bothered or concerned about having a digital record of that service being done? Although you can keep the paper receipt.

is the car a mk7 or 7.5?

As for the £270 for both, that’s pretty good.

It's a 2014 mk7 at 55k miles, bought it a few weeks ago and got the information the other day that the previous owner hasn't done a dsg or haldex service.

I've saw a lot of horror stories on here with the filter not being cleaned, it was the first thing I asked when I phoned up my local specialist the other day. I personally know the guy so hopefully he'll get it done properly, I'll still be asking for before and after pictures to be safe and to see just how bad the filter is since it was due over 25k miles ago.

I'll be sure to send pics in here once I've got it done as I'm sure I saw a topic about how bad they were.😄
