Correct. You need to buy the whole calliper in order to get new brake plates Had this confirmed by VW, and a VW specialist. Luckily, a kind member or two from here had a spare set laying around so

Hi mate, You can buy them without the caliper as I bought some last week. I have the performance pack on my 7.5 so mine came with the silver version. The part number is 5G0 698 221C. They cost £3

I got mine from Vw dealer in london

I have just snapped my caliper plate whilst doing the pads..does anyone know where I can get a replacent from..without buying a whole new caliper?

They seem hard to find in stock but have a look on eBay.  I’ve previously bought some from there.

For black ones part number is VW 5G0698221A  and VW 5G0698221C for silver ones.

Or here https://www.deutsche-parts.co.uk/repair-kit-5g0698221a-new-genuine-part.html currently out of stock though.

Just on a side note..mintex pads are crap!

I was swapping the pads as the ones fitted had delaminated, the friction material was sitting about 1mm off the back plate on 1 side of the pad on all 4 of them..

I don’t think you can buy them unless you buy the whole caliper. I’ve been searching everywhere for a pair of silver ones, but can’t find any.

Luckily, a kind member or two from here had a spare set laying around so I was able to get some second hand.

Not very helpful of VW though. I did consider looking to see if the S3 equivalent would fit, but didn’t get around to it.

Seems a bit daft to no longer supply the part. I only removed mine so I could push the piston back properly with a g-clamp but did the other side by just pushing 1 side of the piston..might be time to invest in a better tool!

@momo123 I’d be happy to know where from, as I’ve been trying for months to find a pair. Could you let us know.
