Bluey … AHG’S long awaited 8R

Recommended Posts

Ordered                   - April 21st, 2021

Built                         - June 8th, 2022

Registered              - July 21st, 2022 (Order + 15mts)

Spec:

Lapiz Blue
Harman/Kardon 480W
Adaptive Suspension DCC
Side Assist (option in EU)
Folding Mirror (option in EU)

————————————————————————————————————————————————

It landed from its RoRo ship on July 19th.
Apparently, a friend of a friend who works at the port got a snap of it.

Pic quality is terrible, since he couldn’t get in closer, as it was parked in a closed compound with a M4 and some merc.

Made me happy to know that, since regular import just sit in the middle of the port, where anyone can reach them (I get in the port for work sometimes, and saw them)

That moves it’s status up from “proof of life” to “en route”

I know you're pain. I'm sitting here like how long does it take to fill out some forms to get it registered. But there we go we must be a little more patient. As has been said before the long waits will disappear once we're driving them.

Didn’t get the car yet, but apparently it is the first 8R here,

so a port worker put it up on Facebook and it started an e-riot

mostly about how I “know nothing” for the low spec I chose

and the shame in not having electric leather seats

(also many kind and loving words, of course)

So, I got some nice pics from it,

but still haven’t seen my car with my own eyes.

Also learned the awful truth that the EU dealer put 8 unnecessary screws in my bumpers (rear one is not even centered properly). Took me 2 hours to get my heart rate back down, as I asked specifically not to do it (apparently since it travelled through the EU, it needed temp EU plates). At least the importer will not wash it (per my request) as they use a machine.

To be fair they do have a point about the spec  😜....  although if they had any idea how much time you spend on here, they wouldn't dare suggest that you 'know nothing' about the Golf 8R 🤣

Really annoying about the screws and off centre plate holder...I would be fuming as well.

Great pictures of your R!! That would seriously annoy me A. they drilled holes in your bumpers when you asked them not to and B. they didn't centre it. You do realise VW have installed the steering wheel upside down! (don't mention about it being on the wrong side 😁)

At least you got some nice pics of the car. Not long to go now. Really pleased your R journey is coming to a great conclusion. 🙂

That’s a bit cheeky of the port worker to stick it on Facebook without owner’s permission.  And then slag you off for not speccing stuff you don’t want or need.

Also very frustrating about the bumper holes!

But……

….it looks stunning!  😎

I try to see it as an exercise in letting go, and flowing.

not my forte, to say the least, as I am very detail oriented,

but defo a good mental workout in something I need to get better at.

it’s not the port worker who slagged me off, that was in the comments.

also lots of surprise about “not having a roof” (i.e. sunroof).

Personally, I have no problem with people taking pictures of a car in the port, while no personalized items are there yet. It is a bit like if I parked on the street, and people would take pics, it is in the public domain, I cannot limit their freedom (as long as it is not for profit). Specifically in this case it is funny since there is no license plate or any identification on it, and only a handful of people realize it is my car, and the rest of the crowd seem to think it is the OP’s car (a friend of the person who took the pics) and give him congratulations in the comments 🙂

Sorry I worded my post very poorly, I didn’t mean the port worker slagging off the car spec, but other Facebookers.

Fair enough about not being fussed about it being posted up by others.  You know it’s your car of course.

It is quite amusing that people think it’s the OPs car but a expected assumption perhaps.

But it’s yours all yours!  😁   When are you expecting to take physical possession of it?

Mine. All mine. My precious …

— — —

Public domain is public domain, so not fuss,

As long as they don’t put up photos of kids or myself.

That guy posted it on 4-5 different FB groups

and I’m still wondering what’s his motivation 🙂

— — —

Sunday morning the car will get MoT by the importer

so afternoon it will be transported to be handed over.

The importer is 3hrs from me, but he will send it on a lorry.

I asked him to send it directly to the workshop

that will do my PPF and install the V1, Dashcam

and location system, similar to a Ghost (required by insurance).

So, probably one more week before I can drive it.

I’d venture a guess toward Aug 1st or so

Always funny when people slag off your car, and then you see the shed they drive around in.

I bought a new TT roadster a few years ago, and one of the lads in work was slagging it off, and saying I was in a mid-life crisis. I agreed and told him this wasn’t my mid-life crisis toy, that was my Fireblade I’d bought a few months earlier

Then someone pointed out he was driving round in a battered old diesel Zafira... 🤪

Edit: Truck did not make it today
so Tomorrow (hopefully morning)

(NOT) DELIVERY DAY !!!

I will not drive it today, just “meet it” for the first time at the shop (PPF, Ghost, V1 etc) and wait another week or so, to have it to drive.

Still haven’t seen it, but since it is a CELEB car here, got some more pics after the MoT process, that other people sent me.
