Ricardo1892
Evening! Picking up a Pearl black Golf R on Monday. Always been a fan from afar, having usually had Fast Fords then an F40 M135i in 2021. 29k miles, main dealer, Full history, Pano roof, pretorias. Car was immaculate when I viewed and drove (twice). It'll be going up on the ramps at a family friends garage through the week to make sure all is well! Cheers! Booth11
Welcome along! Sounds a lovely car you’re getting. Hope it proves to be a great follow on from the M135i. Ricardo1892
Ricardo1892
Thanks Chaps. The 135 was so lifeless. Lovely tech, but lifeless. The R put a BIG smile on my face....in an unexpected way. The car already has Ghost on, which is a plus I guess! Are the front struts/suspension issues present as on the standard Golf? My other half and friends GTI needed doing at about 30k miles under warranty. I'll be keeping an eye on the coolant for the water pump issue, but as it's got full VW history and has just been through the service dept at the dealer, I'm hopeful I won't find too much to moan about 🤣 I didn't go through VW for finance, but I still get the 2yr warranty, breakdown and MOT cover which is a must IMO. Ricardo1892
Okay...should have got one of these years ago. What a machine....the previous owner has been meticulous! Seats have no wear. Boot looks like it's never had anything in it... possibly a coating on the glass and paintwork too. If anyone sold a 2018 Black R in the past month or two with pretorias and a Pano roof....thank you 🤣 Edited March 23 by Ricardo1892 Booth11

Sounds like you got a well looked after car which is a huge plus. And they look superb in black! Post some pics up of you get chance! Regarding the suspension question, a fair few have had to have suspension bushes greased etc (under a TSB) so it’s not uncommon, as is the coolant leak issue but you know about those, but fingers crossed yours will not succumb to these. Ricardo1892
Car is going to a family friend's garage tomorrow for a health check. Gave it a good wash (properly) on Monday, and the paint seems to be well cared for. Probably will get it detailed over the summer at the guy who did my last car, probably just one stage to remove the defects and then a coating down. I may get the underside cleaned and protected too, with Lanoguard. The only minor "issues" are: 1) Wing mirror cover on right side is coming away. Upon inspection, the lug inside is damaged. The dealership ordered a new pair straight away. 2) The badges are peeling off on the front wings, and the one on the front Grille has a black overlay which is peeling off. The dealership have ordered new badges without fuss. 3) Infotainment - this could be a recent Android auto bug, and not the actual car, but when it's connected and on, every time I'm in the car at some point, android auto will freeze, and the phone needs un plugging and plugging in again....the buttons work apart from the ones on the bottom of the screen, only for android auto, until I unplug the phone and reconnect. 4) Very Slight front left side creak which sounds like a suspension bush just starting to do the classic Mk7 golf thing 🤣 - barely noticeable, but it's there at low speed....just. Probably have that sorted at the Dealership. Had a trip from Newcastle to Tunbridge Wells and back over the weekend, and I was blown away by the comfort on the motorway for 5/6 hours of driving, in a car that's classed as being on the firm side... Ricardo1892
....Coming from Fast Fords, it was refreshing to not have any tailgaters too, apart from one guy in a Passat who was inches from my bumper, before backing off briskly 🫣
Trekkkie
The android auto issue ( and to be fair the same happens with Apple Car Play-I know from personal experience) is well known and usually sorted by getting the VW approved cable- expensive I know but worth it to sort the problem. Ricardo1892
Health check complete...was up on the lift to get a good look at the underside. Both front bushes need replacing. There's also a possible hazing of oil around the sump area, see image (could be normal/from oil change??) https://photos.app.goo.gl/LoLi9RSYerQQdrv5A Apart from that, the car is immaculate! Ricardo1892
Slight dilemma... I've found the car has the air intake/front grill "drill out" mod, as in it's been drilled out to let more air in... Also, there's an aftermarket turbo elbow installed. I've emailed the dealer, as I don't want to be questioned on these, should the car need warranty work in the future....and I'm now tempted to get confirmation in writing that either the TD1 flag is there, but warranty is still intact, or that it's not there.....
