Adm
Hi, I have golf mk8r, bought brand new in October 2022. Recently it has started making dull knocking noises when making parking or turning manoeuvres. I've taken it back to the dealer, who replaced a shock. However the problem is still there. Took the car back again, but was told there's no problem, its just a noise so I will just have to live with it. Possibly get a second opinion from another Vw garage. Anyone else experiencing similar issue?
AHG
I highly suggest you upload to YouTube a video of the occurrence you are describing, and put the link here so we can better understand the issue.
Peter Wynne
I had the same and needed both front top strut mounts replaced. As AHG suggests, a video would be good 👍
Amir7R
Same issue here. It's annoying and had similar on my 7R where VW replaced the top mounts under warranty. Suspect it's the same on the 8R
Bingodalton
I had similar situation and also had knocking sound over bumps. As my front discs were for replacent I thought pads have some space for movement.Discs and pads replaced, old pads 40% worn, metal clips were detached from them, on one side of pads, mot both. When I turn steering while standing I had knocking, now I do not have it anymore.Like spring is stucking, that kind of sound.I have already replaced rear bushings and top mounts and this sound remained. So, check for the brake pads.Sent from my SM-S901B using Tapatalk
Ethian
Having the same problem the car was build around October 2022 and delivered in November 2022, taken it back to dealer who said they couldn’t hear nothing. Since then it’s now doing it more frequently while manoeuvring and going over certain road types. It’s like a squeek at slow speed and a clunking noise when driving. booked in again to see if they can fix it if not will be going to another dealer
Silverstoned
I just replaced my bushings and strut mounts on the weekend to fix the same issue. Double checked the torque on everything, used fresh hardware when putting it back together and I still have the noise, although it's much quieter and only when backing up and the wheel is turned fairly sharp. Maybe I'll have to look at the brakes. @Bingodalton, so it was detached clips or worn pads?
Bingodalton
Detached clips. Pads were 40% worn. Discs were at the end of their life, maybe 5-10k km more.On the right side, one pad was with both clips detached, on other side just one clip was detached. Those were ATE pads, not so old 20.000km or so, I would have to check my service table.Strange it is happening on new car, but still possible.I have replaced rear bushings, top mounts, shock absorber been checked for play in rod as that was first suspicion of clicking while steering and not moving. Anoying thing when I park in garage. After everything was mounted back, clicking was gone for few days, but that was all. Ir apeared again. Now with new discs and pads everything is ok.And clunking of pads over rough road is gone too. I thought it was due to worn discs, but it is also from detached clips.Sent from my SM-S901B using Tapatalk UssMark
aldfort
Reported this to our dealer. Sort of creak on low speed manoeuvres. Comes from the front. VW supplied special lube to fix the problem. I think for the top mounts. Too soon to tell yet but a known issue for sure.

Presumably slight slipping of the top mount to strut bearing or top mount and the attachment point to the body? I doubt it's a safety issue, but more of an annoyance for those of us that want our cars creak, squeak and rattle-free. UssMark

I’ve got the same creaks now on turning steering wheel when static or very low speed manoeuvring. Didn’t have it previously but now it’s kicked in with a vengeance, very noisy. I’ll report it to the dealership for then to lube the top mounts although I recall from the mk7/7.5, which suffers same issue, that it’s only a temporary resolution and the creaks usually return. aldfort
DDave
Can't believe VW are still turning cars out with this problem as Booth11 says it was prevalent on earlier models as my 2018 7.5 suffered especially turning slowly in reverse. Silverstoned
At least it's an annoyance but not a "real" problem right?
