LiamRwagon
Hello All; got my VW R Estate 7.5 (2020) with performance pack, pan roof, loads of extra's great car but couple of niggles; 1st one is the rear passenger side brake disc was heavily scored (this was noted on second service as recommend replace at just 12k miles), I bought from VW dealer with 18k miles and electric brake was sticking, VW dealer replaced discs and pads and within less than 100 miles same rear brake disc has lines you can feel already whereas other side and fronts are perfectly smooth; anyone else had this issue? pictures of new discs on rear first (less than 100 miles on same side that prematurely wore out; original disc pictures below) good side (original) bad side (original)
Deano
I can’t see your pics but these cars eat back brakes. The XDS system brakes the inside rear wheel when cornering to send power to the outside wheel, sort of a poor mans LSD. The adaptive cruise control also uses the back brakes to slow the car. The scoring I believe is due to little harder chunks of brake pad material in the pad itself. My car is on 10k and needs new rear discs and pads, and it has had an easy life (owned from new.) If you drive on the motorway a lot and don’t use ACC the brakes will last much longer, but if you’re always on back roads or round the streets then you’ll burn them out rather quickly. You can turn XDS off via VCDS but I haven’t tried that, nor do I want to.
LiamRwagon
Thank you for the reply Delano, very helpful and yes not much motorway usage, shorter journeys mainly, car was owned by a mature gentleman before me and fronts are original and loads of life left in them still.
