minesaturbo
Having ongoing Haldex issues and need some further advice as I feel im just throwing money at this a bit, Been back n forth a bit and had a few things done, had original pump serviced , filter clean and updated the software and still no joy. Had a new Haldex pump and still im getting all spin from front wheels. Was told there no fault codes on controller before so presuming still the same I did a hard launch to check, so race mode, traction fully off, built revs and sent it and must have left a 20+ meter of black tyre on road and with all the tyre screech and smoke to go with it, Is there anything other controller or something simple n obvious thats been overlooked? Is it possible to have some kind controller fault without any fault codes, I first noticed loss of rear push after that really cold snap at start of year . is it possible the freezing cold messed something up back then There's no particular noises coming from rear e.g. driveshaft , differential whines , leaks thanks
purplepulser
When you say "updated the software", what do you mean? When my pump stopped working after a routine haldex service, I had to get a new one fitted and the pump learn procedure completed via VCDS. Yeah, it’s all been done, or should have, it’s been done at a VAG place
gregozedobe
Have you investigated other potential causes ? The Haldex controller failing, the rubber "donut" on the rear driveshaft, or the gear inside the transfer case/bevel box slipping on its shaft can also cause a lack of drive to the rear wheels . purplepulser
Just to make you aware then, when I took mine to the dealer to investigate my haldex issues, the technician said they don't do any pump learn procedure. This absolutely needs to be done to make it work, hence why I took the car to a specialist instead.
Msportman
Transfer box / Bevvell slipping…..or your pump isn’t sync’’f in. Have you a good VW tuner near you?
minesaturbo
Yeah its a VAG specialist they have done plenty haldex pump replacements / was a S1 getting a haldex controller changed last time i was in so happy they know what they doing as such. Would there be any funny noises coming from that area if its , bevel / transfer box or other mechanical issue. I did once when launching hard when I was first investigating issue get a high pitched squeal but its never replicated since also if I remember I feel like the loss of power at rear was suddenly weak / intermittent then gone altogether. It happened within a couple weeks i think cheers

Annoyingly, neither are DTCs guaranteed even when there is a pump operation issue. That's what makes it tricky. Have you been able to confirm the pump is working as that I would say is the very first place to start....

A new pump has been installed, i'll maybe look at checking again for software related issue, maybe do the pump learn feature again (is it possible this could need doing multiple times???) then think about mechanical / hardware issues

It is a pretty simple system overall mechanically speaking, with some more complex control algorythms employed by the control unit. Is the prop shaft present and accounted for? Has it been inspected with interface at both ends? Without some noise and banging, I can't imagine something has let go there but start with obvious and easy is always best.... If you're getting it put up on a hoist for that by the specialist, maybe get him to test the bevel box slip by trying to rotate the drive shaft. V6coop
I have been doing some reading up on Haldex being new to the system and the Golf R. I found this website, really just looking for details on the service process and parts. Anyway, I hope this is not your problem but there is a YouTube video link at the end of the article about Transfer Box failure. The video is here if you just want to jump to the detail. They guy is a bit of an ar*e in my opinion, but the detail is what matters. As I said, hope this is not your problem but worth checking out. Millsn
there an adaptation you can do on haldex. I did it with obd11. dead easy. over time the pump motor needs a higher voltage to make it work. the adaptation changes the voltage sent to it making it work. V6coop
What was the outcome of this? It would be good for us all to understand what the cause was?
