Car 2X

I believe the mk 8 R has this safety system.

Anyone know how it works and how the wi-fi transmitter works it says it doesn’t need a mobile network to function ?

It is a new protocol that works through the shark fin antenna, using medium range peer-to-peer transmission, so no external service is required (I think) except some digital certificate.

That was the massage I got after the OTA update I did

it said - ‏traffic hazard alert now available

Did anyone else start getting a white text message on the dashboard, regarding “traffic hazard alert” just after some small OTA update ?

Mine did it 3 times, twice as I was trying to do the update (so I switch privacy to minimal) but once today when privacy was on maximum (which I thought meant no Car2X).

This website says I need to connect it somehow (WiFi maybe, as I don’t have WeConnect coverage here) to get some digital certificate OTA,

https://www.golfmk8.com/forums/index.php?threads/software-recall-91-bu.388890/#post-7723749

but honestly I just want to know how to turn it off.

Also, in the menus it is supposedly off, so I’m not sure why I get the notification.

Maybe I have to get it to turn on in order to do so (it seems to be off, but trying to turn on, so maybe I need to somehow turn it on so I can turn it off manually, hoping it will stop trying, if that makes sense).

I just hope I don’t have to have a WeConnect to turn it on or off, because I can’t get that here.

Should I just try to code it off in the antenna module ?

I found something on the OBDeleven module menus.

Question is will it stop it from trying or just “make it angrier”

P.S. I love the idea, but currently it isn’t helping me in any way.

Maybe it will go away by itself, who knows.

Not had that message pop up at any point but that will be because I have Car2X (or V2X as it appears in the car menu) turned off on mine.

I think mine is off as well. Will verify it.

So I’m not sure why it comes up.

Yes have a look and see if it’s off.
This is it turned off on mine under Profile - Settings - Privacy servings and services - V2X and traffic hazard alert.  I’ve never used it but maybe I’ll turn it on and see what it’s like.

It was off for me too, but I think it was so because it didn’t have a certificate (the discretionary way cars identify themselves in V2X) and the manual says that it needs a new one every month, and since we don’t have infrastructure here for V2X, the car was trying to get the certificate and turn it on, so I couldn’t turn it on manually (to turn it off purposefully, so it stops trying).

My OBD scan corroborated that theory.

Some forums said it is a SW that requires an update to fix, but I’m not sure as my car is “out of its elements” in the sense that it is built for EU but isn’t there.

Apparently, it works even in maximum privacy mode and even if eSim is disconnected, since it is of no use here, I turned it off at the antenna module.

Let’s hope that will cause it to stop trying to download certificates, otherwise it will be my first trip to the dealer for bongs 🙂

How do you disable the e sim?

Well, so far had one 1hr drive and 3 short ones (15-20min each) and it doesn’t tell me anything about “traffic hazard alert” being restricted.

I really feel like turning it on again and see if it comes back (just as a crossover study, to verify the coding is what made the difference, and it’s not some self-healing as some bugs tend to do) but I think I’ll keep it like this for a while, and turn it back on before bringing it in for diagnostics, so they can see it (in case there is a SW fix for it).

I also turned it off in antena module, and now no more ding at every drive!

Dealer didn’t do it, just waited for update which was supposed to solve it
