Aid7072
After 17 months of ownership the R has been sold via Motorway and collected plus sold again by the purchasing VW dealer within 24hrs of being advertised. The R was my wifes car and ordered during Covid restrictions due to all options she wanted being available from VW but not BMW which she normally has,she picked 11 of the 13 optional extras making it one of the highest spec Rs out there if not the highest. Unfortunately the R never lived up to expectations so looking for its replacement started after 6 months of ownership,an order placed after 9 months and the new car arrived after 17 months of R ownership. The plus side is due to the massive discounts when we ordered and a great price via motorway due to the huge spec the 17 months ownership depreciation was very low. I hope the rest of you enjoy whatever R you have, this time around they weren't for us.
DSarge
Sorry to hear it wasn’t the car for you/ your wife and good you got a decent return on it. You say it didn’t meet expectations and I wonder what you must have expected and what it was that let it down. I sold my previous golf R through Motorway and was very happy with them. What aspects could you not really forgive and overlook? and what looking at now to fill that gap.

I had an 8R(sold a year ago) and my wife the Tiguan and both suffered from the various issues well documented on the 8R gremlins, the Tiguan also developed a heads up fault, infotainment could take ages to load plus in the last week of ownership the sound would vanish on any music being played and the sat nav volume also which could only be rectified by unplugging the subwoofer for the HK in the boot. The lag on the Tiguan when in comfort was bad,it often took far too long to decide what gear to be in when driving up a hill and once it decided would occasionally stick at around 4000rpm before eventually sorting itself out. The leather seats were comfortable to sit in but felt really "flat" by letting you feel like you were sliding about in them, they needed better side bolsters for support. This would have been fixed easily had they used the seats leather seats from the 8R instead of the ones from an R line. Quality of materials inside was not the best, clearly some cost cutting had gone on and the dash even with the discover nav pro felt a little dated. Maybe I expected too much, list on the car would be around £58k so I dont feel I'm being too harsh about the seats or quality of some materials used. Misses had an X3M comp before the Tiguan which was too harsh a ride on some roads where we live so has taken delivery of an X3M40i this time around. Had enough budget to stretch to an early MK 8 R but based on the software issues alone decided to purchase a late MK 7.5 R as know many enjoy the cars enough to absorb, and obviously had little choice but to, it was not something personally wanted to knowingly go into, so that reasoning is obviously well understood. We also looked at T-Roc R for about 5 mins, which was the time it took us to sit in one at local dealer, and based on nothing more than really not getting the cabin, and notably the quality, much the same reaction to when we looked at the new Polo GTI last year, really nice looking car, interior has definitely been downgraded materially. T-Roc R maybe a great drive, but cabin experience is high on my need list. Have a BMW 128Ti also, and the materials even on 1 series are pretty good, cabin experience with a mature media system is high, BMW definitely have the edge on current VAG choices at same price points. Have not seen an XM40i up close, but imagine at that will be a level up still interiorly and way beyond T-Roc. Its a shame as would have liked to try the MK 8, and though there are positive signs that the new CEO is going to drive out issues and up the quality, the MK 8.5 prices will be too premium for me until way down the road. When my 128Ti heads back to the lease company, likely be looking at a late MK7.5 R, TCR or 20 plates RS3/S3/A35 AMG but again, sadly not MK 8 of any description. I guess you can have all the spec in the world but if the car has unresolved issues and it’s really not doing it for you, then that’s all pointless. Hopefully the replacement BMW is proving to be a better experience and sounds like it will be a welcome return for you both. And at least financially the VW has not been a big loss. Enjoy your new car!

My 7.5R was a great car and worked exactly how it should,we now have an M240i and X3M40I and the cabins are a huge step up in quality although you pay for it especially with the X3M40I over the Tiguan R. Enjoy your new car! Thanks,so far both BMWs have been great and so has the dealership. The BMW dealership is as good as the VW one is bad so at least theres still some decent ones out there. I thought I'd got lucky with my 8R until 6 months in then it really went off the rails and a diabolical VW dealer didnt help make me want to keep it with so many faults, once you get fed up with a car then it's hard to see any positives and the negatives just keep growing. The Tiguan was going the same way throwing up new errors regularly, again the dealer was no use so it resulted in me longing to be rid of it which shouldn't have been the case. No matter the issues with the Rs they are still desirable, due to the huge discounts via DTD a few years ago the profit I made selling my 8R has almost been wiped out by the small loss on the Tiguan meaning I'm still slightly in profit from owning both which is unbelievable.
