Golf 7.5 Performance breaks/drilled breaks - clicking noise

Recommended Posts

Hello fellow VW enthusiasts,

I've had my car for a while now, initially purchased with 50,000 km on the odometer. Currently, it's at 70,000 km. For the last 500 km or so, I've been experiencing a peculiar issue with my front end. It's been making an odd clicking or clipping noise, especially when I turn the steering wheel between 50-100%. I've even recorded a video to better illustrate what I'm hearing: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/e_iM0kuvO9E

Earlier today, I visited a service shop for a consultation. The mechanic mentioned that a friend of his, who owns a Golf 8 GTI with the same brakes and only 10,000 km, is experiencing the same issue. He assured me that although the noise is bothersome, it doesn't compromise the vehicle's performance or safety. His recommendation was to continue using these brakes until they're due for replacement, as the issue seems to be purely auditory.

I'm convinced it's a brake issue, as the sound occurs on both sides of the car. I'm eager to hear your thoughts and suggestions.

I've noticed that another user is facing a similar issue, right down to having identical brakes and, I believe, brake pads as well.

So, what could be the culprit? Any insights?
I have those brakes same as this post.

Any chance it could be the common problem with wheel bearings ?  There was a batch of Rs where the bearings weren't mounted into the hub properly (bad application of adhesive or something) and that is known to cause clicking issues.

Top mounts for the front struts was another common cause of clicking (and other noises) when turning.

This is me 🙋🏼‍♂️

so basically my story behind this is - I updated both the discs and pads (ATE ceramic pads) when they were brand new the clicking sound was loud, as I mentioned on both sides and you would hear it when breaking pressure increased (you could hear the sound bouncing off barriers etc)

overtime however, the sound itself has reduced a lot, and is barely noticeable now.

my conclusion is - that due to compound of ceramic pads, when applying pressure it makes noise due to the drilled holes.

honestly wasn’t a massive deal, just wanted to see what others experienced
