Golf r mk7 weird nose

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I have a question and I'm hoping someone can assist or share if they've experienced something similar. I've visited two suspension specialists regarding my Golf R MK7. Both provided different explanations with no resolution.

The issue is when driving on bumpy roads, I hear a loud clucking noise from the front of my car. It occurs when the front of the car lifts up on a bumpy road, also hear this noise on bumpy speed bumps. One mechanic mentioned it might be the front sway bar links, but even after replacing them, the noise persists. The other suggested it could be the front bushings or struts, but they'd need to inspect further. Any thoughts on what might be causing this? The noise only occurs on rougher roads and seems to be getting louder, resembling metal collision

Could be any part of the suspension to be honest, but usual culprits are top mounts, arb bushes or wishbone bushes.

Fancy garages put microphones on different parts of the car and put it on a shaker plate to pin point where the noise is coming from. Can also be done with microphones and a road test.

Depends how much effort, cash and time you want to put into it.

I've read that some Golf Rs had an assembly problem with front wheel bearings.  Due to incorrect adhesive application the bearing was moving slightly in the hub resulting in a distinct clicking noise over bumps.  Might be worth checking out on your car.
