Well, mine was clearly faulty. Or maybe you're more tolerant than me when spending 30k on a car. Your choice of course. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

VW Bradford replaced the AC control unit. It appears to have rectified the issue. If anyone else had what I described, get your dealer to check the sensor temperature readings. If one is massively different from the others, chances are it's a fault with the AC control unit. Hope this helps. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Thanks to VW Bradford. They agreed it wasn't right. One of the sensors was reading 29 degrees when the others were reading 10, hence all the cold air and the system not knowing what on earth to do. Needs to go back in for them to sort it out. VW Leeds just fobbed me off saying it was working as it should. Pathetic. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Hi. Sorry to only reply now but the summer weather is playing havoc with my climate control. Even if the outside temperature is at 15 degrees, say, if the sun is streaming through the windows the car is chucking out cold air with the dial all the way up to about 27 degrees. I can't buy that this is normal. I'm forever having to adjust the dial. Climate control should be capable of a set and forget approach, which worked with my previous R. Has anyone else found a solution? I'll book it into a dealer in any case. Thanks Sean Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Presumably you have it set to auto? I can get warm air coming through the central vents only if I put the temp up to 28+ or press the button for face level vents only. Doesn't seem right and was happy with the way it all worked on my first R. What to do...

Took to dealer last week. Told me no update to MiB2, which seems contrary to what others have said on here. But they said the climate control was working fine. Bull. I've asked the salesgirl I bought the car from in Chester to try her mk7 gti tomorrow to see what hers does. And they washed the car when I told them not to. Sytner in Leeds have generally been poor for me. Will go to Bradford in future. They seem to care more.

Yes. I thought so too!!!

I paid 29000 originally I think or just less. Trade in was 27500 IIRC. So I justify the difference by the extras I put on (paint, carnet), the higher price of the base car (arguably I suffered here a bit) vs owning the car for 6 months and doing 10k miles. I now have a brand new spec, updated spec (mib2 is much better), new tyres but most importantly first registered keeper!!!
-
Hi. They agreed to give me an above market trade in on a new one, which they managed to get quickly as they moved a group stock order to me. I was able to change the spec to my liking. Ordering night blue brought the build forwards so I collected it early December. I had to pay the extra (about 3k) but get metallic paint, new tyres, CarPlay, and the 10000 miles I did in the first one, so when you also factor in the price rise that will also have affected the money I had to pay, I consider myself quite fortunate. You've just got to be nice, know your rights and be a bit savvy. I can't speak more highly of the dealer in Chester, notwithstanding that they shouldn't have made the mistake in the first place. I hope you get yours sorted out. If you have legal cover on your home contents insurance, that might cover consumer disputes. All the best. Sean

Yeah, my first attempt didn't work. Will try again then it's off to the dealers to get them to fix it.

Dealer has suggested I try this. Turn the heaters to full and hot and then cold, then turn the fans off. Do an ignition cycle and try them again. I did this and I think it might have worked. Will report back later on.

All fair points but my previous mk7 R didn't behave like that. The comparison is like night and day.
-
So, putting aside the wind blowing my 2 day old car door against my wall, leading to a small chip (sob) I am starting to think the heater is faulty. My old mk7 R would normally be on 21 degrees for a nice temperature. The new one is still pushing out cool air at 25 and only gets warm at 27+. This seems odd since the max is 30 degrees. Has anyone experienced something similar? Any ideas? Cheers Sean

Re sat nav, I didn't mean factory fitted ones. I mean using Apple or google maps on CarPlay or android auto, which then displays everything that you need on the 6.5" screen. So I think both external units and internal units will have a limited lifespan.

Ok, so I collected my new mk7 R yesterday. Incredible service from Lynsey at Chester VW after the registration docs mistake with my first R. Spec is largely unchanged from my red one. Just the car net and metallic night blue were added. It has DCC, winter pack, camera and dynaudio too. Manual. Firstly, the colour is great. Don't know why more people don't have it. By far the best colour in my view having seen most of the R colours up close or on the road. I have missed having metallic paint. Red is still a great colour. But I won't miss seeing the red from the inside (around the door trims for example). And the clash with blue interior lighting. Sadly still shod with bridgestones but they seemed fine on the way back. The new MIB2 is a significant upgrade to the screen and responsiveness. Much crisper and just general operation is so much faster. Playing FLAC files from SD card is great too. The extra .7" or whatever it is to take the screen to 6.5" doesn't make a massive difference but the quality of the screen and use of touch screen and menus is really a lot faster. Ability to change soundaktor is a nice touch too although I got used to having it on all the time. Still needs to be setup to my tastes but very pleased. CarPlay is a revelation. Really can't see how tomtom and garmin will survive for car satnavs anyway. I am going to get a cheap nexus 4 or similar to use android auto, for google maps, Amazon music or deezer, and whatsapp integration. It can then be left in the car. Pressing voice on the steering wheel starts Siri. Great feature. So, I'll keep this until the mk8 R now I think. In love again...

Stage 6 this morning. Really hoping it gets to the dealer early next week so it can be detailed and with me a week tomorrow. Fingers crossed

Also spoke to a Detailer. Going with a different one for this R and he says he's done quite a few Rs of late, and all of them have needed a lot of time on the paintwork as it's so soft.

So, build 5a text on Sunday. After the tracker was dithering between wc 16th and 23rd, it decided not to tell me it had gone stage 4. 5b this morning. Hoping it will arrive in the UK by the weekend and make a short transfer to the dealer. What's the experience been lately in terms of time from 5b to dealer? Given the time of year, I'm guessing well under 3 weeks. It's not like those horrors from BW10 and 11 earlier in the year.
-
Update from tracker today says it's gone back to wc23rd. It showed that initially but came forwards a week. Not too bothered but am surprised at the number of update texts.
-
What colour are you going for? Oh wait. [emoji2]. I'm in the fortunate position of having had a red one and as of early December will have a night blue one. Looking forward to a calmer, more stealth like R. And metallic paint again.
-
8 months?! Wow. That's a long time. Hope you enjoy it.
-
I keep getting build week confirmed messages. Had 3 in a week but one changed from wc 23rd Nov to 16th and any since then haven't changed this. It does suggest that some things have been brought forwards though so I think it's possible your car is being built now. Exciting times!!
-
Stupid question perhaps but have you connected your phone first? Maybe the option doesn't show until then?
-
I asked my dealer directly today as well as getting her confirmation that my build week has come forwards. No response as yet. But guess we'll find out soon enough. I'll be happy with anything on top of what I've already ordered and happy that mine will be built just after BW45.
