  1. Some interesting reading. im not massively fussed on future resale value due to mileage... more want to enjoy the car I drive every day.
  2. I have to admit I do like the styling of the S3, but I've always had a soft spot for Golfs but never owned one. If the Focus RS was better quality inside and had a decent DSG id have one. are there any MK7 R's to avoid. My budget is going to be around 20-22 for the right car. Thanks
  3. Well that didn't come out in the correct format, and I cant edit it, so apologies.
  4. Thanks again for everyone's responses. I guess what it comes down to is what is the best value for money say from a Golf R, S3, BMW135i or similar. If I wanted a diesel under 20K I would just buy the Golf MK7 GTD or over 20K the BMW. on some quick calculations below: Petrol Cost Miles Car Avg MPG Cost per Mile MPG Claimed Back £1.20 140 30mpg £0.25 £0.45 Monthly Spend Petrol Spend Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Week 1 -140 -£35.00 -140 -£35.00 288 £129.60 -140 -£35.00 0 £0.00 £24.60 Week 2 -140 -£35.00 -140 -£35.00 288 £129.60 -140 -£35.00 0 £0.00 £24.60 Week 3 -140 -£35.00 -140 -£35.00 288 £129.60 -140 -£35.00 0 £0.00 £24.60 Week 4 -140 -£35.00 -140 -£35.00 288 £129.60 -140 -£35.00 0 £0.00 £24.60 £98.40 These are based on an average mileage per week and the car running 30MPG. Figures are estimates from MPG website to obtain the £0.25 over 140 miles using petrol at £1.20. What are peoples thoughts?
  5. I'm assuming that is running the modifications as well...?
  6. I appreciate all the responses. What do you reckon that costs you in fuel? what s your weekly spend? Thanks
  7. Thanks for the responses. just to be clear I know these types of cars are not going to pay for them selves. If I can get a car which is somewhere cost near cost neutral for work then im going to be fairly happy. so spending £95 a week on travel and getting back £130 will make it almost cost neutral. I don't want a boring car if I have to drive 700 miles a week to save a few pennys but im not in the situation where I could run an M3 or C63 as that would cost me ! so its compromise for me. And if it will keep up with a FRS I will be happy.
  8. Hi, Looking for some feedback from owners current or past experiences. I have a couple of weeks to choose a new car, its going to be my daily driver for work and Weekends, excluding the misses motor. I'll be doing around 700 miles a week for the first 6 months before I can settle into a 3 day week and less travel. 420 miles of those will be at my own expense and the rest being paid at 45p a mile. So although I will be getting back most of the money to cover my normal work journey miles I still need something that is OK on fuel. I know it says 40mpg on average but im taking that with a pinch of salt, im pretty safe with something that will do 30mpg on a good 70mile run each way cross country in A roads. My predicament is as follows. The car must not look out of place when visiting high end automotive customers. It must be Auto, it must do 30MPG +, it must be quick. So far I have short listed Golf R, S3 (2013 onwards), BMW135i or going bigger 335D. Merc A45, Does any one have any experience running their R over a lot of miles and the costs involved or indeed with any of the other motors mentioned above? all feedback welcome.
