I'm pretty new to the Golf R scene and bit by bit I am adding my own personalisation to my Lapiz Blue Mk8. I have been looking at the rear spoiler (stick on) extension that Maxton do. But also seen some really quite cheap aliexpress ones. I have in the past taken the risk with cheap mods from Chinese sellers and often been surprised by the quality. Has anyone purchased one of the cheap spoiler extensions? Or the more expensive Maxton version? How has fitment been for either one?

I moved from Mini mainly due to the fact that I needed a 4 door car to enable me to ferry around elderly parents, the Mini was too small for this, also it was lowered on coilovers, so the ride was quite harsh- which I loved personally! Minis are a bit like go carts - so this is what I got used to. My Mini was ECU tuned and went like a little rocket. Im finding the Golf to obviously have more power, but it's hard to compare the 2 cars as they are just so completely different. It will take me a bit of time to adjust. The all wheel drive is fantastic and much better going in and coming out of corners than the mini front wheel drive. Im going to get the Golf lowered and get a performance exhaust, as I really miss the pop and crackle from my mini. Also - considering all the negativity about the infotainment screen - I'm finding it quite easy to use!

So, after being the bloke who has had 3 new MINI's over the last 15 years......ive gone and got a GOLF! First thoughts are: Not as much fun as my Mini JCW. Not as much pop and crackle as my Mini JCW. FASTER than my Mini JCW! There are a lot of different pros and cons between the two cars, but I'm going to embrace the GOLF R and try to learn all it's driving styles, I'm a fan of the Special Mode already. Plans are to lower it, get more noise with an aftermarket exhaust, and coming from the Mini world where I heavily personalised my car, add some personalisation with some go fast decals!
