Hi everyone,
I'm the Frenchy from Paris š«š· and I have a Cobra Sport resonator delete for sale, originally intended for a Golf 7/7.5 R Estate, reference VW82.
While preparing the advert, I started wondering: why does Cobra offer two different references for the Golf R hatchback and the Golf R Estate?
According to Cobra:
VW81 ā Golf 7/7.5 R hatchback
VW82 ā Golf 7/7.5 R Estate / Variant
Interestingly, both references are sold at exactly the same price.
I also checked ETKA, and found the following OEM references for the centre resonator:
5Q0 253 409 C ā Golf 7 R hatchback
5Q0 253 409 M ā Golf 7 R Estate
So the only difference in the VW part numbers is the final letter.
Looking at the ETKA diagrams and the actual parts, the two centre resonators appear extremely similar, if not identical, in terms of their design, connections and position in the exhaust system.
So I was wondering:
Has anyone here ever looked into whether the Cobra VW81 and VW82 are actually different, or whether the only difference is the length due to the different body styles?
And, more importantly, has anyone ever tried fitting a VW82 (Estate) to a Golf 7 R hatchback, or vice versa?
If anyone has both Cobra references, knows the exact differences between them, or has actually tried it, I'd be very interested to hear your findings.
Because if the two pipes have exactly the same diameter and geometry, with only a difference in length, the VW82 could potentially be adapted to the hatchback simply by cutting it to the correct length.
In that case, the VW82 resonator delete I have for sale could potentially fit all Golf 7/7.5 R models, rather than only the Estate.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can shed some light on this! š
